grammysAntonio Sanchez has won the Grammy Award for his music for Alejandro G. Inarritu’s Birdman in the Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media category. The other nominated composers in the category included Hans Zimmer (Interstellar), Johann Johannsson (The Theory of Everything), Justin Hurwitz (Whiplash) and Alexandre Desplat (The Imitation Game). The jazz drummer/composer accepted his award in person. In the Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media, Lonnie Lynn, Che Smith & John Stephen won the award for the song Glory from Ava DuVernay’s feature Selma. The movie is directed by Kirk Jones (Nanny McPheeEverybody’s FineWaking Ned Devine) and stars Nia Vardalos, John Corbett, Lainie Kazan, Michael Constantine, Andrea Martin, Ian Gomez, Alex Wolff, Elena Kampouris, John Stamos, Rita Wilson and Joey Faton. The sequel follows as Toula and Ian are struggling to find time for each other while managing their lives and a teenage daughter, while also having to deal with yet another Greeker wedding. Vardalos has also written the screenplay. jeff-bealHollywood Chamber Orchestra music directors Noah Gladstone and Mark Robertson today announced that Emmy Award-winning composer Jeff Beal (House of Cards, Monk, Carnivale, Appaloosa, Pollock) will conduct the world premiere of his score to the 2013 documentary Blackfish, live-to-picture, on Friday, July 1, 2016, at the Montalbán Theater in Hollywood. The movie, which centers on the controversial captivity of killer whales, premiered in competition at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival in January 2013 and was released in theaters later that year by Magnolia Pictures. The film directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite was also one of the first projects selected by CNN to be distributed via their 24-hour news channel.  Read the rest of this entry »

flakedWill Arnett has announced on Twitter that former Pavement lead singer and guitarist Stephen Malkmus is scoring the upcoming Netflix series Flaked. The show is created by Mark Chappell (The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret) and Arnett who also stars in the comedy with David Sullivan, Ruth Kearney and George Basil. The series follows a celebrated long-time resident of the insular world of Venice, California who falls for the object of his best friend’s fascination. Arnett and Chappell are also executive producing the project with Ben Silverman (The Office, Jane the Virgin), Peter Principato (Married, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp) and Mitch Hurwitz (Arrested Development).  Read the rest of this entry »

Atlantic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the show’s first season by artists including Sturgill Simpson (who performs the title song), Ty Taylor, David Johansen, Kaleo, Otis Reeding, Ruth Brown & more. Knight, Daniel Webber, Chris Cooper, Cherry Jones, George MacKay, Lucy Fry, Jack Fulton and Leon Rippy. Executive producer J.J. guy-grossGuy Gross is set to reteam with director Stephan Elliott on the upcoming comedy Flammable Children. Guy Pearce and Radha Mitchell are attached to star in the movie, which is written and directed by Elliott. The film is set in an Australian beach suburb in the mid-1970s and follows a 14-year old boy who tries to find his feet in a world changing faster than his hormones, and deal with his crush on a shy and sensitive girl-next-door. Al Clark and Jamie Hilton are producing the project. The album features selections from original music of the show’s second season composed by Max Richter (Waltz with BashirDisconnectTestament of YouthThe Congress). The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 19, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. DeadpoolCovOpening in most theaters this weekend is the comic book movie Deadpool directed by Tim Miller and starring Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano, Ed Skrein and Brianna Hildebrand. The film’s original music is composed by Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL (Mad Max: Fury RoadBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice).
