Antonio Sanchez has won the Grammy Award for his music for Alejandro G. Inarritu’s Birdman in the Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media category. The other nominated composers in the category included Hans Zimmer (Interstellar), Johann Johannsson (The Theory of Everything), Justin Hurwitz (Whiplash) and Alexandre Desplat (The Imitation Game). The jazz drummer/composer accepted his award in person. In the Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media, Lonnie Lynn, Che Smith & John Stephen won the award for the song Glory from Ava DuVernay’s feature Selma. Christopher Lennertz is composing the score for the upcoming romantic comedy My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. The movie is directed by Kirk Jones (Nanny McPhee, Everybody’s Fine, Waking Ned Devine) and stars Nia Vardalos, John Corbett, Lainie Kazan, Michael Constantine, Andrea Martin, Ian Gomez, Alex Wolff, Elena Kampouris, John Stamos, Rita Wilson and Joey Faton. The sequel follows as Toula and Ian are struggling to find time for each other while managing their lives and a teenage daughter, while also having to deal with yet another Greeker wedding. Jeff Beal to Conduct ‘Blackfish’ Score Live-to-Picture Performance

Hollywood Chamber Orchestra music directors Noah Gladstone and Mark Robertson today announced that Emmy Award-winning composer Jeff Beal (House of Cards, Monk, Carnivale, Appaloosa, Pollock) will conduct the world premiere of his score to the 2013 documentary Blackfish, live-to-picture, on Friday, July 1, 2016, at the Montalbán Theater in Hollywood. The movie, which centers on the controversial captivity of killer whales, premiered in competition at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival in January 2013 and was released in theaters later that year by Magnolia Pictures. Stephen Malkmus Scoring Netflix’s ‘Flaked’

Will Arnett has announced on Twitter that former Pavement lead singer and guitarist Stephen Malkmus is scoring the upcoming Netflix series Flaked. The show is created by Mark Chappell (The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret) and Arnett who also stars in the comedy with David Sullivan, Ruth Kearney and George Basil. The series follows a celebrated long-time resident of the insular world of Venice, California who falls for the object of his best friend’s fascination. Arnett and Chappell are also executive producing the project with Ben Silverman (The Office, Jane the Virgin), Peter Principato (Married, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp) and Mitch Hurwitz (Arrested Development). Premiering tonight is the new HBO original series Vinyl created by Terence Winter, executive produced by Martin Scorsese and starring Bobby Cannavale, Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, Juno Temple, Ato Essandoh, J. C. MacKenzie, P. J. Byrne, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen and Paul Ben-Victor. Atlantic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the show’s first season by artists including Sturgill Simpson (who performs the title song), Ty Taylor, David Johansen, Kaleo, Otis Reeding, Ruth Brown & more. Premiering tomorrow, February 15, is the Hulu mini-series 11.22.63 based on Stephen King’s 2011 novel, adapted by show runner Bridget Carpenter and starring James Franco, Sarah Gadon, Josh Duhamel, T.R. Knight, Daniel Webber, Chris Cooper, Cherry Jones, George MacKay, Lucy Fry, Jack Fulton and Leon Rippy. Executive producer J.J. Ennio Morricone has received his sixth BAFTA Award for his score for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight in the Original Music category. Morricone previously won the BAFTA Award for Days of Heaven, Once Upon a Time in America, The Mission, The Untouchables and Cinema Paradiso. He was nominated alongside Thomas Newman (Bridge of Spies), Johann Johannsson (Sicario), Ryuichi Sakamoto & Alva Noto (The Revenant) and John Williams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens). Bayard Musique has released a soundtrack album for the French/Polish drama The Innocents (Agnus Dei). The album features the film’s original music composed by Grégoire Hetzel (Incendies, The Blue Room, The Tree). Also included is other music featured in the movie, such as Max Richter’s On the Nature of Daylight & more. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. The Innocents is directed by Anne Fontaine (Coco Before Chanel, Adore) and stars Lou de Laâge Agata Kulesza, Agata Buzek, Vincent Macaigne, Joanna Kulig and Katarzyna Dabrowska. The movie is set in 1945 Poland and follows a young French doctor who is on a mission to help World War II survivors and becomes the only hope to several pregnant nuns who are unable to reconcile their faith with their pregnancies in hiding. Guy Gross to Score Stephan Elliott’s ‘Flammable Children’

Guy Gross is set to reteam with director Stephan Elliott on the upcoming comedy Flammable Children. Guy Pearce and Radha Mitchell are attached to star in the movie, which is written and directed by Elliott. The film is set in an Australian beach suburb in the mid-1970s and follows a 14-year old boy who tries to find his feet in a world changing faster than his hormones, and deal with his crush on a shy and sensitive girl-next-door. Al Clark and Jamie Hilton are producing the project. ‘The Leftovers’ Season 2 Soundtrack Details

WaterTower Music will release a new soundtrack album for the HBO original series The Leftovers. The album features selections from original music of the show’s second season composed by Max Richter (Waltz with Bashir, Disconnect, Testament of Youth, The Congress). The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 19, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label has previously released a soundtrack featuring the composer’s music from the first season. The Leftovers created by Damon Lindelof & Tom Perrotta takes place in the wake of a global “Rapture” and centers on the people who didn’t make the cut and are left behind in a suburban community. Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters this weekend is the comic book movie Deadpool directed by Tim Miller and starring Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano, Ed Skrein and Brianna Hildebrand. The film’s original music is composed by Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL (Mad Max: Fury Road, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by WHAM!, Salt-N-Pepa, DMX & more. Check out our previous article for the full album details. Also opening wide is the comedy sequel Zoolander 2 directed by Ben Stiller and starring himself, Penelope Cruz, Will Ferrell, Owen Wilson, Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen.
