Milan Records will release a soundtrack album for Azazel Jacobs’ indie comedy The Lovers. The album features the film’s original music composed by Mandy Hoffman (Ana Maria in Novela Land) who previously scored the director’s Terri. The soundtrack will be released digitally next month and is set for a physical release on June 2, 2017. Visit Amazon to pre-order the CD. Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) announced today that composer Alan Silvestri will be honored with the companys Icon Award at the 2017 Film, TV & Visual Media Awards. The annual ceremony will be held Wednesday, May 10, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills and will be hosted by BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill and BMI Vice President Film, TV & Visual Media Relations Doreen Ringer-Ross. BMI will bestow the Icon Award to Silvestri for his impactful contribution in the realm of film and television music. Raney Shockne has been tapped to score the upcoming thriller Huntsville. The film is directed by Eric England (Contracted, Get the Girl) and stars Dylan McDermott, Sophie Turner and Jack Kilmer. The movie follows a solitary man in a Florida town who develops a questionable relationship with a recently transplanted high school student. Anthony Ragnone wrote the Black List-honored screenplay. Broadway Records has released a score album for the comedy drama Speech & Debate. The album features the film’s original music composed by Deborah Lurie (Dear John, 9, An Unfinished Life, Safe Haven). Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated feature Smurfs: The Lost Village directed by Kelly Asbury and starring Demi Lovato, Rainn Wilson, Joe Manganiello, Jack McBrayer, Danny Pudi and Mandy Patinkin. The film’s original music is composed by Christopher Lennertz (Sausage Party, Horrible Bosses). Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as song written by Lennertz & KT Tunstall (click here for the full details). Also now available as a single another original song from the movie, I’m a Lady by Meghan Trainor.
Also opening wide is the crime comedy Going in Style directed by Zach Braff and starring Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Alan Arkin, Ann-Margret, Joey King, Matt Dillon and Christopher Lloyd. Rob Simonsen (Foxcatcher, The Spectacular Now, Nerve) has composed the film’s original music. Columbia Records will release a new soundtrack album for the Fox hit drama Empire. The album a selection of the songs from the show’s third season by cast members including Terrence Howard (Lucious Lyon), Jussie Smollett (Jamal Lyon) and Bryshere Gray a.k.a. Yazz (Hakeem Lyon), as well as Serayah, Mariah Carey, Rumor Willis & more. The soundtrack will be released on April 28, 2017 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Academy Announces New Awards Rules

The Academy of Motion Pictures announced a couple of new rules and campaign regulations for next year’s 90th Academy Awards, which were approved at their most recent Board meeting on Tuesday, March 28, including one in the music categories. The new rules state that, “in the Music (Original Score) category, in the case of a score that has three or more equally contributing composers, the composers may be considered as a group.
