Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the animated feature Cars 3 directed by Brian Fee and featuring the voices of Owen Wilson, Cristela Alonzo, Armie Hammer, Larry the Cable Guy, Bonnie Hunt, Cheech Marin, Jenifer Lewis, John Ratzenberger, Lloyd Sherr, Michael Wallis, Paul Dooley, Kerry Washington and Nathan Fillion. The film’s original score is composed by Randy Newman (Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., A Bug’s Life) and has been released by Walt Disney Records. Click here for the album details. Also opening wide is the biographical drama All Eyez on Me directed by Benny Boom and starring Demetrius Shipp Jr, Kat Graham, Lauren Cohan, Hill Harper, Jamal Woolard and Danai Gurira. John Paesano (Daredevil, The Maze Runner, The Defenders, My All American, When the Game Stands Tall) ha composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been announced. All Eyez on Me tells the story of Tupac Shakur and follows the rapper, actor, poet and activist from his early days in New York City until his untimely death at the age of 25. Tony Morales is scoring the upcoming indie comedy An Actor Prepares. The film is directed by Steve Clark and stars Jeremy Irons, Jack Huston, Matthew Modine, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Mamie Gummer, Will Patton and Ben Schwartz. The movie revolves around a world famous, hard-drinking actor who is forced to drive across country with his estranged son on one last madcap adventure. Clark also co-wrote the screenplay with Thomas Moffett (Shrink). David M. Rosenthal (The Perfect Guy, A Single Shot) is producing the project with 3 Arts Entertainment’s Tom Lassally (Edge of Tomorrow, Stay) and Will Rowbotham (Blue Caprice).
The full details of the soundtrack album for Showtime’s documentary The Putin Interviews have been announced. The album features the show’s original music composed by Emmy Award winner Jeff Beal (House of Cards, Monk, Rome, Pollock, Appaloosa, Carnivale, Blackfish). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album for the drama Return to Montauk. The album features the film’s original music composed by Max Richter (The Leftovers, Waltz with Bashir, Taboo, Miss Sloane, Disconnect). Island Records will release the original song Was It Love? from the new Sky Atlantic mini-series Riviera. The track is performed by Florence + the Machine’s Isabella Summers featuring Lena. The song will be released as a digital single tomorrow, June 16 and will be available to download on
Decca Gold will release a soundtrack album for the drama Wakefield. The album features the film’s original music composed by Aaron Zigman (The Notebook, John Q, The Proposal, Bridge to Terabithia, The Shack). Pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet is featured as a soloist on the composer’s score. Also included are two classical pieces by Schubert and Chopin performed by Thibaudet. Craig Wedren is reteaming with director David Wain on the upcoming Netflix original movie A Futile & Stupid Gesture. The film stars Will Forte as National Lampoon co-founder Douglas Kenney, alongside Domhnall Gleeson, Joel McHale, Emmy Rossum, Matt Walsh, Martin Mull, Thomas Lennon, Matt Lucas, Seth Green, Jackie Tohn, Natasha Lyonne, Elvy Yost, John Gemberling, Rick Glassman, Camille Guaty and Jon Daly. The biopic is based on Josh Karp’s 2006 book of the same title and centers on the life and career of Kenney. Michael Colton and John Aboud (Penguins of Madagascar, The Comebacks) wrote the screenplay. Peter Principato (Central Intelligence, Keanu) and Jonathan Stern (Childrens Hospital) are producing the project.

Junkie XL aka Tom Holkenborg is set to score the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot. The film is directed by Roar Uthaug (The Wave) and stars Alicia Vikander in the title role, alongside Dominic West, Daniel Wu, Hannah John-Kamen and Walton Goggins. The movie based on the video game franchise follows Lara Croft as she must push herself beyond her limits when she finds herself on the island where her father disappeared. Geneva Robertson-Dworet wrote the screenplay and Graham King (The Departed, The Aviator, Blood Diamond, The Town) is producing the project.
Danny Elfman has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming superhero movie Justice League. Junkie XL aka Tom Holkenborg who co-scored Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice for the DC movie universe was originally scoring the film before director Zack Snyder left the project. Joss Whedon is overseeing additional photography is beginning this week in London. Elfman has previously collaborated with Whedon on Avengers: Age of Ultron. Justice League starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher and Jason Momoa will be released in theaters nationwide on November 17 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
