Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the action comedy directed by Patrick Hughes and starring Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Salma Hayek, Elodie Yung and Joaquim De Almeida. The film’s original score is composed by Atli Orvarsson (Vantage Point, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as the songs from the movie by Lionel Ritchie, Foreigner, King Harvest, Chuck Berry, Samuel L. Jackson & more. Also opening wide is the crime comedy Logan Lucky directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Seth MacFarlane, Riley Keough, Katie Holmes, Katherine Waterson, Sebastian Stan, Hilary Swank, Daniel Craig and Dwight Yoakam. David Holmes (Ocean’s Eleven, Out of Sight, Haywire) has composed the film’s original music. Brian Tyler has been hired to score the upcoming romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians. The film is directed by Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Step Up 2: The Streets) and stars Constance Wu, Michelle Yeoh, Henry Golding, Gemma Chan, Sonoya Mizuno, Chris Pang, Harry Shum Jr. and Awkwafina. The movie is based on Kevin Kwan’s novel of the same title and follows a Chinese-American economics professor and her boyfriend, who happens to be the heir to a massive fortune. Peter Chiarelli (The Proposal) and Adele Lim (Lethal Weapon) wrote the screenplay. Nina Jacobson (The Hunger Games), Brad Simpson (American Crime Story, Diary of a Wimpy Kid) and John Penotti are producing the project.
Universal Music has announced two soundtrack albums for the docu-series The Vietnam War. The first album features popular songs featured in the show that define the era, including tracks from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Simon & Garfunkel, Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, Otis Redding, Santana, Ray Charles, Nina Simone & more. BMG Soundstage has released a soundtrack album for the Syfy original movie Sharknado 5. The album features the film’s original music composed by Christopher Cano & Chris Ridenhour who previously scored the last three installments in the Sharknado series. Hollywood Records and Marvel Music will release a soundtrack album for the Netflix original series The Defenders. The album features selections of the show’s original music composed by John Paesano (The Maze Runner, Pacific Rim Uprising) who previously scored both seasons of Marvel’s Daredevil. Bella Union will release a soundtrack album for the British drama Let Me Go. The album features the film’s original music composed by Radiohead drummer Philip Selway who is making his film scoring debut on the project. Singer/songwriter Andrew Bird has composed the original music for the upcoming indie drama Outside In. The film is directed by Lynn Shelton (Your Sister’s Sister, Laggies) and stars Jay Duplass, Edie Falco, Kaitlyn Dever and Ben Schwartz. The movie follows an ex-con who is struggling to readjust to life in his small town and forms an intense bond with his former high-school teacher. Shelton also co-wrote the screenplay with Duplass. Mel Eslyn (Blue Jay, The One I Love) is producing the project with Lacey Leavitt.
Republic Records will release the official soundtrack album for the drama Patti Cake$. The album features the songs from the movie written by director Geremy Jasper and performed by the film’s cast. Christopher Lennertz is composing the themes and Philip White is writing the score for the upcoming comedy sequel Boo 2! A Madea Halloween. The film is written and directed by Tyler Perry who also stars in the movie with Cassi Davis, Tito Ortiz, Yousef Erakat, Patrice Lovely, Lexy Panterra, Andre Hall and Brock O’Hurn. The movie follows Madea, Bam, and Hattie as they venture to a haunted campground and must run for their lives when monsters, goblins, and the boogeyman are unleashed.
