Zacarias M. de la Riva (Automata, The Kill Team, Tad the Explorer, Bent) has shared a new behind-the-scenes look at the creation of his score for the Spanish Netflix original film Below Zero (Bajocero). The video features an interview with the composer talking about his musical approach for the thriller, the composing process and the challenges of recording his music during the first national lockdown in Spain last year, as well as footage from the orchestral recording sessions with the Budapest Symphony Orchestra, which he supervised remotely from his studio in Madrid. Opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the sci-fi romance Little Fish directed by Chad Hartigan and starring Olivia Cooke, Jack O’Connell, Raúl Castillo, David Lennon, Carmen Moore and Soko. The film’s original music is composed by Keegan DeWitt (Hearts Beat Loud, Gemini, A Teacher, I’ll See You in My Dreams, All Together Now, Divorce, The Hero). Also opening in limited release and on VOD today is the drama Falling written and directed by Viggo Mortensen and starring Mortensen himself, Lance Henriksen, Terry Chen, Laura Linney, Hannah Gross, Sverrir Gudnason and Bracken Burns. Mortensen has also composed the film’s original score. Perceval Press has released a soundtrack album featuring the actor/director’s music, as well as a song by Skating Polly. HBO’s ‘Allen v. Farrow’ to Feature Original Score by Michael Abels

HBO announced today that Michael Abels (Get Out, Us, Bad Education, See You Yesterday) is the composer of the new HBO docu-series Allen v. Farrow. The show is directed by Kirby Dick (The Hunting Ground, The Bleeding Edge) & Amy Ziering (On the Record) and focuses on the accusation of sexual abuse against Woody Allen involving Dylan, his then seven-year-old daughter with Mia Farrow; their subsequent custody trial, the revelation of Allen’s relationship with Farrow’s daughter, Soon-Yi; and the controversial aftermath in the years that followed. The 4-parter interweaves new investigative work with exclusive, in-depth interviews on the subject with Mia, Dylan & Ronan Farrow, family friend Carly Simon, among others. The album features the film’s original music composed by Steven Argila (Wayne, Max Steel, Mad About You, Basmati Blues). Son of the South is written and directed by Barry Alexander Brown and stars Lucas Till, Lex Scott Davis, Lucy Hale and Julia Ormond. The movie executive produced by Spike Lee is based on Bob Zellner’s autobiography The Wrong Side of Murder Creek and tells the story of the grandson of a Klansman who comes of age during the early 60’s in the deep south and eventually joins the Civil Rights Movement. Gerald Busby has written the film’s score, which features performances from flautist Michael Parloff and a host of other talented musicians selected by composer John Williams for their ability to perform contemporary music.
