Neon announced today that Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood is attached to score the upcoming biographical drama Spencer. The film is directed by Pablo Larraín (Jackie) and stars Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana, alongside Timothy Spall, Sally Hawkins and Sean Harris. The movie is set during the Christmas holiday in December 1991 when Princess Diana decided to leave her marriage to Prince Charles. Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders, Eastern Promises, Locke) wrote the screenplay. Jan de Dios Larraín (A Fantastic Woman, Gloria Bell) is producing the project for Fabula Films, alongside Jonas Dornbach & Janine Jackowski (Toni Erdmann) for Komplizen Film and Paul Webster (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice) for Shoebox Films.

Trevor Gureckis to Score M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Old’
Trevor Gureckis (The Goldfinch, Bloodline) has been hired to score the upcoming thriller Old. The film is written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs, Unbreakable, Split) and stars Eliza Scanlen, Thomasin McKenzie, Gael García Bernal, Alex Wolff, Vicky Krieps, Aaron Pierre, Abbey Lee, Embeth Davidtz and Rufus Sewell. No plot details have been announced yet. Shyamalan is also producing the project with Ashwin Rajan (Glass) and Marc Bienstock (The Visit, Charm City Kings).
Austin Wintory Scoring Ross McCall’s ‘Ire’
Austin Wintory is scoring the upcoming British prison drama Ire. The film marks the directorial debut of actor Ross McCall and stars Craig Fairbrass, Stephen Odubola, Jason Flemyng, Ulrich Thomsen, Zoe Tapper and Rosie Sheehy. The movie follows an institutionalized criminal incarcerated for murdering his wife whose routine life is disrupted when his estranged daughter asks to meet him and a 19 year old serving his first sentence in a maximum security prison is placed inside as his cell mate. McCall also wrote the screenplay.
Adrian Younge & Ali Shaheed Muhammad Scoring Eddie Huang’s ‘Boogie’
Ali Shaheed Muhammad & Adrian Younge (Luke Cage, Run This Town) have composed the original score for the upcoming coming-of-age drama Boogie. The film marks the feature directorial debut of writer, producer and restaurateur Eddie Huang (Fresh Off the Boat) and stars Taylor Takahashi, Taylour Paige, Pamelyn Chee, Mike Moh, Alexa Mareka, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Perry Yung, as well as Pop Smoke who is also contributing music to the project. The movie tells the story of a basketball phenom living in Queens, New York, who dreams of one day playing in the NBA and must find a way to navigate a new girlfriend, high school, on-court rivals and the burden of expectation.
Thomas Newman Scoring John Madden’s ‘Operation Mincemeat’
Composer Thomas Newman (American Beauty, The Shawshank Redemption, Finding Nemo, 1917, Skyfall) is reuniting with director John Madden (Shakespeare in Love, Proof) on the upcoming war drama Operation Mincemeat. The film starring Colin Firth, Kelly Macdonald, Matthew Macfadyen, Penelope Wilton, Johnny Flynn & Jason Isaacs is based on the book of the same name by Ben Macintyre and takes place in 1943 when the Allies are determined to launch an all-out assault on Fortress Europe. The movie follows two intelligence officers as they concoct a disinformation strategy, aimed at preventing their massive invasion force from being massacred by German soldiers and planes when they touch down on the continent. Michelle Ashford (Masters of Sex) wrote the screenplay.
Volker Bertelmann to Score Peter Flinth’s ‘Against the Ice’
Netflix announced today that Volker Bertelmann (aka Hauschka) (Lion, Hotel Mumbai, Ammonite, The Old Guard, Patrick Melrose, The Art of Racing in the Rain) is set to score the upcoming drama Against the Ice. The film is directed by Peter Flinth (Arn: The Knight Templar, Nobel’s Last Wil) and stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Joe Cole, Charles Dance and Heida Reed. The movie based on the Danish novel Two Against the Ice by Ejnar Mikkelsen is set in the early 1900s and centers on Denmark’s Alabama Expedition, led by Captain Ejnar Mikkelsen who was attempting to disprove the United States’ claim to North Eastern Greenland.
Lorne Balfe to Score John Michael McDonagh’s ‘The Forgiven’
Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Bad Boys for Life, The Lego Batman Movie, Genius, The Crown) has been hired to score the upcoming drama The Forgiven. The film is written and directed by John Michael McDonagh (The Guard, Calvary) and stars Ralph Fiennes, Jessica Chastain, Saïd Taghmaoui, Caleb Landry Jones, Matt Smith, Christopher Abbott, Ismael Kanater, Marie-Josée Croze, Alex Jennings and Abbey Lee. The movie based on the novel of the same title by Lawrence Osborne takes place over a weekend in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, and explores the reverberations of a random accident on the lives of both the locals and western visitors to a house party in a grand villa.
Lili Haydn Scoring Michèle Ohayon’s Netflix Documentary ‘Strip Down, Rise Up’
Lili Haydn (DriverX, Broken Kingdom, The House That Jack Built, Somewhere Between) has recently scored the new Netflix original documentary Strip Down, Rise Up. The film is directed by Michèle Ohayon (Colors Straight Up, Cowboy del Amor) and focuses on a diverse and vibrant group of women who heal their trauma and body image issues through sensual movement and the art of pole dancing. The movie follows women of all walks of life, all ages and ethnic backgrounds, as they shed trauma, shame, body image, sexual abuse and other issues locked in their bodies, and embark on a journey to reclaim themselves. Ohayon is also producing the project.
Lorne Balfe Scoring Mikael Hafstrom’s Netflix Film ‘Outside the Wire’
Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, His Dark Materials, The Lego Batman Movie, Bad Boys for Life, Home) has composed the original music for the new Netflix original film Outside the Wire. The movie is directed by Mikael Håfström (1408, Derailed) and stars Anthony Mackie, Damson Idris, Enzo Cilenti, Emily Beecham, Michael Kelly and Pilou Asbæk. The sci-fi adventure is set in the future and centers on a drone pilot who is sent into a deadly militarized zone where he finds himself working for an android officer, tasked to locate a doomsday device before the insurgents do.
Julian Scherle Scoring Michael Mailer’s ‘Swing’
Julian Scherle (Princess of the Row, Disrupted, Purity Falls) has been tapped to score the upcoming rowing drama Swing. The film is directed by Michael Mailer (Blind) and stars Michael Shannon, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton and David James Elliott. The movie centers on a Ivy League college crew team whose lives are changed in their final year when an army veteran takes over as coach of their dysfunctional rowing team. Vojin Gjaja wrote the screenplay.
