Leo Birenberg & Zach Robinson have won their first Emmy Award for their score for The Roku Channel original movie Weird: The Al Yankovic Story in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited or Anthology Series, Movie, or Special category at today’s first night of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. Cristobal Tapia de Veer has picked up his third Emmy Award for his music from the Season 2 episode In the Sandbox from HBO’s The White Lotus in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Series category and Danny Elfman won the Emmy in the Original Main Title Theme Music category for Netflix’s Wednesday.

‘Weird: The Al Yankovic Story’ Soundtrack Album Announced
Legacy Recordings has announced a soundtrack album for the Roku Channel original movie Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. The album features a selection of “Weird Al’s” greatest hits, some of which were newly recorded for the film, as well as a new original song (Now You Know) written and performed by Yankovic. Also included is the movie’s original score composed by Leo Birenberg & Zach Robinson (Cobra Kai, Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, Impractical Jokers: The Movie) and performed by the Budapest Scoring Orchestra. Jessica Rose Weiss (Cinderella, Don’t Make Me Go, Dog Gone Trouble, 1UP) has composed the film’s original music. The movie, which revolves around two journalists who hold the fate of the election in their hands, will be available to stream exclusively on Peacock.

The film is directed by Eric Appel (Son of Zorn) and stars Daniel Radcliffe as “Weird Al” Yankovic, Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna, Rainn Wilson as radio broadcaster Dr. Demento, as well as Julianne Nicholson & Toby Huss as Yankovic’s parents, Mary and Nick. The biopic chronicles Yankovic’s life and career, from gifted child prodigy to the greatest musical legend of all time.
