Cube Soundtracks will release a soundtrack album for the spy thriller Despite the Falling Snow. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Rachel Portman (Emma, The Cider House Rules, Chocolat, Never Let Me Go, The Manchurian Candidate, Race). The soundtrack will be released digitally on April 15, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. Despite the Falling Snow is written and directed by Shamim Sarif and stars Rebecca Ferguson, Charles Dance, Sam Reid, Maria Furtwangler, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Anthony Head and Trudie Styler.

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the biblical drama Risen directed by Kevin Reynolds and starring Joseph Fiennes, Tom Felon, Peter Firth and Cliff Curtis. The film’s original music is composed by Roque Banos (The Machinist, In the Heart of the Sea, Evil Dead, Sexy Beast, Oldboy). Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last week. The full soundtrack details of the soundtrack for the sports drama Race have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Rachel Portman (The Cider House Rules, Emma, Chocolat, Oliver Twist, The Manchurian Candidate). Also included is the original song Let The Games Begin by Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Aloe Blacc. The soundtrack will be released on February 19, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Race is directed by Stephen Hopkins and stars Stephan James, Jason Sudeikis, Jeremy Irons, William Hurt and Carice van Houten. The movie tells the true story of Jesse Owens, the athletic superstar whose quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in history thrusts him onto the world stage of the 1936 Olympics, where he faces off against Adolf Hitler’s vision of Aryan supremacy.

Rachel Portman has been tapped to score the upcoming biographical sports drama Race. The film is directed by Stephen Hopkins (The Ghost and the Darkness, Predator 2, Lost in Space, Blown Away) and stars Stephan James, Jason Sudeikis, Jeremy Irons, William Hurt and Carice van Houten. The movie tells the true story of Jesse Owens, the legendary sports superstar whose quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in history thrusts him onto the world stage of the 1936 Olympics. Anna Waterhouse & Joe Shrapnel (Frankie & Alex) have written the screenplay.
Dustin O’Halloran, Jeff Beal & Rachel Portman Win Emmy Awards
The Creative Arts Emmy Awards were handed out this afternoon at the Microsoft Theatre LA LIVE in Downtown Los Angeles. Dustin O’Halloran won his first Emmy Award for both his main titles theme from Amazon Studios’ Transparent. Jeff Beal was honored with his first Emmy for his work on Netflix’s House of Cards in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Series category after being nominated three times before for his score and theme for the series in the previous two years. The composer previously received three Emmys for Monk, Nightmares & Dreamscapes and The Company. Rachel Portman took home her first Emmy Award for her music for the HBO original movie Bessie.

Premiering on Thursday, May 14 is the Fox limited series Wayward Pines executive produced by Chad Hodge & M. Night Shyamalan and starring Matt Dillon, Melissa Leo, Toby Jones, Juliette Lewis, Terrence Howard, Carla Gugino, Reed Diamond and Shannyn Sossamon. The show’s original music is composed by Charlie Clouser (Saw series, Numb3rs, Resident Evil: Extinction). Wayward Pines is set in a small town in the Pacific Northwest and follows a Secret Service agent who begins a missing persons investigation that quickly reveals a more sinister and creepy side of the town. Rachel Portman Scoring HBO’s ‘Bessie’
Rachel Portman has been tapped to score the upcoming HBO original movie Bessie. The film is directed by Dee Rees (Pariah) and stars Queen Latifah, Michael Kenneth Williams, Khandi Alexander, Mike Epps, Tika Sumpter, Tory Kittles, Oliver Platt, Bryan Greenberg, Charles S. Dutton and Mo’Nique. The movie tells the story of legendary blues singer Bessie Smith and her transformation from a struggling young singer into “The Empress of the Blues,” one of the most successful recording artists of the 1920s and an enduring icon today. Rees has also written the screenplay with Christopher Cleveland & Bettina Gilois (McFarland, USA, Glory Road) based on a story by herself and Horton Foote (To Kill a Mockingbird, Of Mice and Men).

Opening in most theaters this weekend is the thriller Nightcrawler written and directed by Dan Gilroy and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Bill Paxton and Riz Ahmed. Before I Go to Sleep follows a woman who wakes up every day with no memory as the result of a traumatic accident in her past. The thriller is being released by Clarius Entertainment. Rachel Portman is scoring the upcoming spy thriller Despite the Falling Snow. The film is written and directed by Shamim Sarif (I Can’t Think Straight, The World Unseen) and stars Rebecca Ferguson, Charles Dance, Sam Reid, Maria Furtwangler, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Anthony Head and Trudie Styler. The movie based on Sarif’s own novel of the same title is set in Cold War Moscow and follows a female spy who steals secrets from an idealistic politician – and falls in love with him. Hanan Kattan is producing the project for Enlightenment Productions. Despite the Falling Snow is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere in 2015.
