Back Lot Music will release a soundtrack album for the thriller Kill the Messenger. The album features the film’s original music composed by Nathan Johnson (Looper, Brick, Don Jon, The Brothers Bloom). The soundtrack will be released on October 7, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are embedded after the jump. Kill the Messenger is directed by Michael Cuesta, written by Peter Landesman and stars Jeremy Renner, Rosemarie DeWitt, Ray Liotta, Tim Blake Nelson, Barry Pepper, Oliver Platt, Michael Sheen, Paz Vega, Michael Kenneth Williams, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Andy Garcia. The movie tells the true story of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Gary Webb who stumbled onto a story which lead to the shady origins of the men who started the crack epidemic on the nation’s streets.

‘Young Ones’ Soundtrack Details
Cut Narrative Records will release a soundtrack album for the indie sci-fi drama Young Ones. The album features the film’s original music composed by Nathan Johnson (Looper, Brick, Don Jon, The Brothers Bloom). The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 7, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. Young Ones is written and directed by Jake Paltrow and stars Michael Shannon, Elle Fanning, Nicholas Hoult, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Aimee Mullins and Alex McGregor. The movie follows two neighboring ranchers who betray each other in a future where water has become the most precious resource. The drama premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by Screen Media Films for a domestic release in select theaters and on VOD on October 17.
Nathan Johnson Scoring ‘Kill the Messenger’
Nathan Johnson is composing the score for the upcoming dramatic thriller Kill the Messenger. The film is directed by Michael Cuesta (Homeland, 12 and Holding) and stars Jeremy Renner as Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Gary Webb. Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rosemarie DeWitt, Andy Garcia, Oliver Platt, Michael Sheen, Paz Vega, Josh Close, Lucas Hedges, Tim Blake Nelson, Robert Patrick, Barry Pepper and Michael Kenneth Wiliams are co-starring. The movie follows Webb as he stumbles onto a story which leads to allegations that the CIA was aware of major dealers who were smuggling cocaine into the U.S. and using the profits to arm rebels fighting in Nicaragua. Peter Landesman (Parkland) has written the screenplay.
Nathan Johnson Scoring ‘Young Ones’
Nathan Johnson is currently scoring the upcoming sci-fi action thriller Young Ones. The film is written and directed by Jake Paltrow (The Good Night) and stars Michael Shannon, Nicholas Hoult, Elle Fanning and Kodi Smit-McPhee. The movie is set in a violent near-future where water has become the most precious resource on the planet and follows a 14-year-old boy forced to use his wits to survive. Tristan Orpen Lynch (Song for a Raggy Boy, Love & Savagery) is producing the project for Subotica Entertainment and Michael Auret (Black Butterflies) is producing for Spier Films.
‘Don Jon’ Soundtrack Details
Relativity Music Group will release the official soundtrack album for Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s indie comedy Don Jon. The album features the film’s original score composed by Nathan Johnson (Looper, Brick, The Brothers Bloom). The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 8, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Don Jon is written and directed by Gordon-Levitt who also stars in the film alongside Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Tony Danza and Brie Larson. The movie follows a porn-addicted, modern day Don Juan who sets out to become a less selfish person after meeting a recently widowed older woman. The comedy premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and was picked up by Relativity Media for U.S. distribution.

Mark Mothersbaugh who has previously scored the original 2009 film, as well as Hotel Transylvania for Sony Pictures Animation has composed the movie’s score. The film marks the directorial feature debut of actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt who has also written the screenplay and stars as a porn-addicted, modern day Don Juan who sets out to become a less selfish person after meeting a recently widowed older woman. Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Brie Larson, Rob Brown and Tony Danza are co-starring. Ram Bergman is producing through his production company and Nicolas Chartier (The Hurt Locker, Killer Joe) is producing for Voltage Pictures. Bergman has previously produced Rian Johnson’s Brick, The Brothers Bloom and Looper, all of which were scored by Nathan Johnson.

Opening in most theaters is the animated feature Hotel Transylvania directed by Genndy Tartakov and featuring the voice talent of Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, David Spade, CeeLo Green and Jon Lovitz. The film’s music is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh who previously scored Sony Pictures Animation’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. The film’s original song Problem performed by Becky G feat. will.i.am is now available to download on iTunes. No full soundtrack album has been announced yet. ‘Looper’ Soundtrack Details
Cut Narrative will release the original soundtrack for Rian Johnson’s sci-fi thriller Looper. The album features the film’s score composed by Nathan Johnson who previously scored the director’s Brick and The Brothers Bloom. The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 18, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out after the jump. Looper starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Jeff Daniels, Noah Segan and Piper Perabo follows a mob hitman who is assigned to kill his own future self. For the score, Johnson gathered a wide range of field recordings and created a sort of playable, hybrid found-sound orchestra using those original recordings with his team. The results were combined with live strings and horns to produce deep textures featuring pitched industrial fans, tuned treadmills, and a wide range of intricate rhythmic elements.
‘The Day I Saw Your Heart’ Soundtrack Details
Milan Records will be releasing a soundtrack album for the French comedy The Day I Saw Your Heart. The album features the film’s original score composed by Nathan Johnson (Brick, the upcoming Looper), as well as the movie’s songs by artists including Regina Spektor, Cat Stevens, Feadz and Faux Fix. The soundtrack will be released on September 4, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also check out audio clips from the album. The Day I Saw Your Heart (Le soudain tout le monde me manque) is written and diredted by Jennifer Devoldere and stars Melanie Laurent, Michel Blanc, Florence Loiret-Caille, Claude Perron and Guillame Gouix. The film opened last year in France. Film Movement has picked up domestic rights and will be releasing the movie this fall in the US
