Back Lot Music will release a soundtrack album for Jordan Peele’s horror epic Nope. The album features the film’s original music composed by Michael Abels (Bad Education, Allen v. Farrow, Fake Famous, Nightbooks, Breaking, See You Yesterday) who previously scored Peele’s first two features, Get Out and Us. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, July 22 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. A vinyl edition will be released by Waxwork Records. Nope is written and directed by Peele and stars Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, Michael Wincott and Brandon Perea. The movie follows a group of residents in a lonely gulch of inland California who bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (June 24, 2022)
Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the biographical drama Elvis directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Austin Butler, Tom Hanks, Olivia DeJonge, Richard Roxburgh, Luke Bracey, Kelvin Harrison Jr. and David Wenham. The film’s original score is composed by Elliott Wheeler (The Get Down, Every Day) who also serves as the project’s executive music producer. RCA Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie, including classic tracks by Elvis Presley, as well new tracks by Doja Cat, Swae Lee & Diplo, Eminem & CeeLo Green & others. The movie is directed by Andrew Dosunmu (Mother of George, Where Is Kyra?) and stars Gracie Marie Bradley, Aleyse Shannon, Niecy Nash, Giancarlo Esposito, Kyle Bary, Micheal Ward, Sharon Stone and Sarah Stavrou. The drama follows a young singer on the brink of a promising career who finds herself torn between a domineering family, industry pressures and her love for her girlfriend.

The film is directed by Abi Damaris Corbin and stars John Boyega, Michael Kenneth Williams, Nicole Beharie, Connie Britton, Olivia Washington and Selenis Leyva. The movie revolves around a Marine war veteran who suffers from mental scars and faces cchallenges when he tries to reintegrate back into civilian life.

Also included is CHVRCHES’s cover of Gerard McMahon’s song Cry Little Sister (written for 1987’s The Lost Boys). Nightbooks is directed by David Yarovesky and stars Winslow Fegley, Lidya Jewett and Krysten Ritter. The movie is based on J.A. White’s horror-fantasy children’s book of the same title and follows a boy obsessed with scary stories who is trapped in a wicked witch’s magical apartment and must tell a scary story every night to stay alive.

The film is directed by Stephen Williams (Watchmen) and stars Kelvin Harrison Jr. in title role, alongside Lucy Boynton as Marie Antoinette, Samara Weaving and Minnie Driver. The movie tells the true story of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, the illegitimate son of an African slave and a French plantation owner who rose to heights in the 18th century French society as both a violinist and composer, and champion fencer, only to face a downfall after a love affair with Marie Antoinette.
Michael Abels to Reteam with Jordan Peele on ‘Nope’
Composer Michael Abels (Bad Education, Allen v. Farrow, Fake Famous, See You Yesterday) is set to reteam with director Jordan Peele on the upcoming horror movie Nope. The film written and directed by Peele will star Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, Barbie Ferreira, Brandon Perea and Michael Wincott. No plot details have been announced yet. Peele is also producing the project through his Monkeypaw Productions company, alongside Ian Cooper (Candyman). Abels has previously scored the director’s first two features, Get Out and Us, for which he was shortlisted in Original Score category at last year’s Academy Awards.

Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the HBO docu-series Allen v. Farrow. The album features the show’s original music composed by Michael Abels (Get Out, Us, Bad Education, See You Yesterday, Fake Famous). The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, June 11 and will be available to stream/download here. Allen v. Farrow is HBO docu-series Allen v. Farrow is directed by Kirby Dick & Amy Ziering and centers on the accusation of sexual abuse against Woody Allen involving Dylan, his then 7-year-old daughter with Mia Farrow; their subsequent custody trial, the revelation of Allen’s relationship with Farrow’s daughter, and the controversial aftermath in the years that followed.
