Mark Isham has been tapped to score the upcoming sports drama 42. The film is written and directed by Brian Helgeland and stars Chadwick Boseman, Harrison Ford, Christopher Meloni, Brad Beyer, John C. McGinley, Toby Huss and Nicole Beharie. The movie tells the life story of baseball star Jackie Robinson and his history-making signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers under the guidance of team executive Branch Rickey. Legendary Pictures chairman and CEO Thomas Tull (300, Inception) is producing the project. The drama marks Helgeland’s fourth directorial effort for the big screen. The Academy Award-winning screenwriter’s previous films featured scores by Carter Burwell (A Knight’s Tale), Chris Boardman (Payback) and David Torn (The Order).

‘A Symphony of Hope: The Haiti Project’ Live Concert Premiere Announced
On August 3, 2012, A Symphony of Hope: The Haiti Project will have its world premiere live concert as part of the Grand Performances Music, Movement and Meaning program in downtown Los Angeles. The music will be performed by the Hollywood Studio Symphony Orchestra and Choir and conducted by Lukas Richman. The event also features special guest performances by composer Mark Isham and Lucy Schwartz. In addition to the free concert, there will also be a Fundraising Dinner and Silent Auction before the concert. Mark Isham Scoring ABC’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Pilot
Mark Isham has been hired to score the pilot for the ABC drama Beauty and the Beast. The reimagining of the classic fairy tale stars Darius Campbell, F. Murray Abraham, Ruth Bradley, Chris Egan, Karen LeBlanc and Meegan Warner. The show written and executive produced by Jon Steinberg (Jericho, Human Target) is set in a dangerous world where a beautiful and tough princess discovers an unlikely connection with a mysterious beast. Yves Simoneau (V, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee) has directed the pilot of the ABC Studios production. Also executive producing is Gary Fleder (Runaway Jury) through his Mojo Films production company. Isham has previously collaborated with Fleder on several movies, including the thrillers Kiss the Girls and Don’t Say a World. He is also scoring ABC’s other fairy tale-themed show Once Upon a Time, which is about to air its first season finale.

Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the romantic drama The Lucky One based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, directed by Scott Hicks (Shine) and starring Zac Efron, Taylor Schilling and Blythe Danner. The film’s original score is written by Mark Isham. No score album has been announced yet, but WaterTower Music hss released a soundtrack album featuring the movie’s songs by artists including Jules Larson, Correatown, Joshua Radin, Early Winters, Voxhaul Broadcast, A Fine Frenzy and Mayfield. Also opening wide is the romantic comedy Think Like a Man directed by Tim Story and starring Kevin Hart, Michael Ealy, Taraji P. Henson, Meagan Good, Gabrielle Union, Jerry Ferrara, Regina Hall, Terrence J. and Romany Malco. Christopher Lennertz has composed the film’s score. A soundtrack album featuring the comedy’s title song performed by Jennifer Hudson & Ne-Yo feat. Rick Ross, as well as other songs from and inspired by the film by artists including John Legend feat. ‘Once Upon a Time’ Soundtrack Announced
Intrada Records has announced a soundtrack album for the ABC hit drama Once Upon a Time. The album features over an hour of the original score from the series by composer Mark Isham, including a 4-minute orchestral suite. The soundtrack will be released on May 1, 2012 and can be pre-ordered at Intrada’s online store. ABC Studios has previously released a digital-only four-track EP of Isham’s music from the show. Once Upon a Time created by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz and starring Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, Robert Carlyle, Lana Parrilla, Josh Dallas, Jamie Dornan and Jared Gilmore is ABC’s most successful new drama of the current TV season. The final episodes of the first season currently air on Sunday nights on ABC.
Mark Isham’s ‘Nowhere to Run’ Soundtrack Announced
Perseverance Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for the 1993 action film Nowhere to Run. The album includes the original score from the film composed by Academy Award-nominated composer Mark Isham. The album is limited to 3000 copies and will be released on April 6, 2012. Mark Isham to Score ‘Upside Down’
Mark Isham confirmed in a recent interview with BuzzFocus.com that he is currently working on the music for the upcoming sci-fi romance Upside Down. The film directed by Juan Diego Solanas and starring Kirsten Dunst and Jim Sturgess centers on a a man searching an alternate universe for a long-lost love from his youth. Jayne Heitmeyer, Larry Day and Holly O’Brien are co-starring in the co-production of Studio 37, Onyx Films and Transfilm. Claude Léger (Grey Owl), Dimitri Rassam, Alexis Vonarb & Aton Soumache (Renaissance) and Jonathan Vanger are producing the romantic drama. No word yet on if any of the score by Benoit Charest who has previously been announced as the composer of the project will remain in the film.
‘Once Upon a Time’ Score EP Released
ABC Studios has released a score album for the ABC hit show Once Upon a Time. Once Upon a Time: Extended Play includes four themes from the show written by Academy Award-nominated composer Mark Isham. The four-track EP is available to download on iTunes. A full score album will be coming out this spring. Mark Isham to Score Simon West’s ‘Stolen’
Mark Isham has been tapped to score the upcoming action thriller Stolen. The project marks the second collaboration between the composer and director Simon West (Con Air, Tomb Raider) who previously worked together on the Jason Statham-starring action film The Mechanic, which was released earlier this year. Stolen (which was recently renamed from its original title Medallion) stars Nicolas Cage as a former criminal who has to track down his kidnapped daughter who has been locked in the trunk of a taxi cab in New York City. Malin Akerman, Josh Lucas, Danny Huston, Mark Valley and M.C. Gainey are co-starring. David Guggenheim (Safe House) has written the script and Matthew Joynes and Jesse Kennedy are producing the Nu Image/Millennium Films production.
