Lucas Vidal has signed on to score the upcoming supernatural horror thriller The Quiet Ones. The Hammer Films production is directed by John Pogue (Quarantine 2) and stars Sam Claflin (Snow White and the Huntsman) and Jared Harris (Mad Men, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button). The film follows a University professor who uses controversial methods and leads his students to take part in creating a Poltergeist from negative human energy. James Gay-Rees (Senna) and Steven Chester Prince are also producing. The thriller marks Hammer Film’s and producer Simon Oakes’ first film to go into production following this year’s Daniel Radcliffe-starring box office hit The Woman in Black, which has become the highest grossing British horror film of the last 20 years. The project’s screenplay is written by Tom De Ville with revisions by Craig Rosenberg (After the Sunset, The Uninvited), Oren Moverman (The Messsenger, Rampart) and Pogue. The Quiet Ones is set to begin production this month and a release in 2013 is expected.

Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the Aardman Animation’s and Sony Pictures Animation’s 3D stop-motion animated feature The Pirates! Band of Misfits directed by Peter Lord (Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run) & Jeff Newitt and featuring the voice talent of Hugh Grant, Salma Hayek, Jeremy Piven, Imelda Staunton and David Tennant. The film’s score is composed by Theodore Shapiro. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music has been released earlier this week on Madison Gates Records and is available exclusively on iTunes. Lucas Vidal Recording the Score for ‘The Cold Light of Day’
Last summer, Lucas Vidal recorded his music for the upcoming action thriller The Cold Light of Day starring Henry Cavill, Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver. The score was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London with an 80-piece orchestra. Film Music Reporter presents an exclusive video from the orchestral recording sessions, which can be checked out after the jump. The video also features interviews with the rising composer himself, as well as engineer/mixer Peter Cobin and music editor Ellen Segal. More videos are to follow. Vidal’s soundtrack for the film has been released overseas and will be coming out stateside closer to the domestic release of the movie in September (click here for the full soundtrack details). The Cold Light of Day directed by Mabrouk El Mechri opens this week in the UK and in Spain, followed by a release in other international markets over the next couple of weeks.
‘The Cold Light of Day’ Soundtrack Details
The details of the soundtrack album for the upcoming thriller The Cold Light of Day have been revealed. The album features the original score from the movie composed by Spanish composer Lucas Vidal. The soundtrack has just been released digitally in the UK. UPDATE (August 2012): The soundtrack is now also available to download in the US on Amazon. The Cold Light of Day directed by Mabrouk El Mechri and starring Henry Cavill, Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver marks Vidal’s second high profile project to be released overseas within weeks of each other following James McTeigue’s The Raven starring John Cusack. The thriller about a man whose family is kidnapped while on vacation in Spain opens in the UK and several other international markets in April. A release in the US is scheduled for September 7, 2012.

Relativity Music Group will be releasing the official soundtrack album for The Raven. The album features the original score from the movie written by Spanish composer Lucas Vidal (Vanishing on 7th Street, the upcoming The Cold Light of Day) who recently has been nominated in the Breakout Composer of the Year category by the International Film Music Critics Association. Sony Classical is releasing the soundtrack overseas on April 2, 2012 and Relativity Music has set an April 24 release date for the domestic release (click here to download the album). Lucas Vidal’s ‘Mientras Duermes’ Score Released
Quartet Records has announced a soundtrack album for the Spanish horror thriller Mientras duermes (Sleep Tight). The album includes the original score by Spanish composer Lucas Vidal (Vanishing on 7th Street) who appears to be having his breakout year in Hollywood in 2012 with two high profile movies coming out this spring, including James McTeigue’s The Raven starring John Cusack and The Cold Light of Day starring Henry Cavill, Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver. The score for Mientras duermes was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London. The soundtrack album is available to order on Quartet Records’ website as an import and on Screen Archives in the US. The movie is directed by Jaume Balgueró ([Rec] and [Rec] 2) and stars Luis Tosar (who just received a Goya Award nomination for his lead performance) and Marta Etura.

Two new movies are opening wide this Memorial Day weekend:
Dreamworks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 2 directed by Jennifer Yuh and featuring the voice talent of Jack Black Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, Gary Oldman, David Cross, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Lucy Liu, Michelle Yeoh, Dennis Haysbert, Victor Garber and Dustin Hoffman is opening in almost 4000 theaters. The film’s music is by Hans Zimmer and John Powell. A score album has been released by Varese Sarabande. For details and audio clips, visit our previous article. Also opening wide is the comedy sequel The Hangover Part II directed by Todd Phillips and starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Bartha, Ken Jeong and Mike Tyson. The film’s score is by Christophe Beck. No score album has been announced, but a soundtrack including the songs featured in the movie has been released by Watertower Music. ‘Make Believe’ Soundtrack released
MuMo Record has released a soundtrack album for the documentary Make Believe. The album includes the original score by Lucas Vidal, as well as a couple of tracks by Serialmusique. For audio clips and to download the soundtrack, visit iTunes. Make Believe follows six of the world’s best young magicians as they battle for the title of Teen World Champion. The documentary is directed by J. Clay Tweel and is executive produced by Seth Gordon & Ed Cunningham (The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters). The film won the Best Documentary Award at last year’s Los Angeles Film Festival and is set to be released in theaters on May 13, 2011 in New York and two weeks later in Los Angeles.
Lucas Vidal to Score ‘The Raven’
Lucas Vidal has signed on to score the upcoming thriller The Raven. The film is a fictionalized account of the final days of Edgar Allan Poe as he tracks a serial killer whose crimes mirror works by the famous author. The movie stars John Cusack, Alice Eve, Luke Evans, Brendan Gleeson and Oliver Jackson-Cohen. The project marks the second high profile scoring assignment this year for the quickly rising composer after the thriller The Cold Light of Day starring Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver, which Vidal has coming up later this year. The Raven is directed by James McTeigue who previously worked with composers Dario Marianelli on V for Vendetta and Ilan Eshkeri on Ninja Assassin.
