Benj Pasek & Justin Paul (The Greatest Showman, Dear Evan Hansen) will contribute music for and serve as executive producers on an upcoming, currently untitled, musical drama for Showtime. The show will tell a family story that interweaves modern-day and 1959 Detroit, centering on a mystery uncovered by a young musician who moves back to her childhood home. Kyle Jarrow (SpongeBob SquarePants musical) is writing the series and is also executive producing the Fox 21 Television Studios production with Alice Keys, Marc Platt (La La Land, Bridge of Spies), R.J. Cutler (Nashville, The September Issue) and Adam Siegel (Grease: Live!).

Soundtrack EP for ABC’s ‘American Housewife’ Musical Episode Released
Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack EP for the musical episode A Mom’s Parade of the ABC comedy American Housewife. The EP features all four original songs from the episode written by Justin Paul (The Greatest Showman, Dear Evan Hansen) & Glenn Slater (Galavant, Tangled) and performed by the show’s cast. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. American Housewife is created by Katy Mixon, Diedrich Bader, Meg Donnelly, Daniel DiMaggio, Julia Butters, Carly Hughes and Ali Wong. The musical episode (and season 3 finale) premieres tonight on ABC.
‘Aladdin’ Soundtrack Details
The full details of the soundtrack album for Disney’s live-action remake of Aladdin have been revealed. The album features all the songs from the movie, including new versions of the classic songs from the 1992 animated feature composed by Academy Award winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Enchanted) and featuring lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, as well as new songs by Menken featuring lyrics by Benj Pasek & Justin Paul (The Greatest Showman). Also included is the movie’s original score composed by Menken. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, May 22 (click here to download) and physically this Friday, May 24 (visit Amazon to pre-order the CD version).
Walt Disney Records to Release Soundtrack Album for Live-Action ‘Aladdin’
Walt Disney Records will release the official soundtrack album for the live-action remake of Disney’s Aladdin. Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Enchanted) has composed the original score for the film, which also features the songs from the 1992 animated classic written by Menken and featuring lyrics by Howard Ashman & Tim Rice, as well as new songs written by Menken and featuring lyrics by Benj Pasek & Justin Paul (The Greatest Showman, La La Land). The soundtrack will be released on May 22 (digitally) and May 24 (physically) (pushed back from the original listed release date of May 10) and is now available for pre-order on Amazon.
Michael Giacchino to Receive ASCAP Henry Mancini Award
ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, has announced today that Michael Giacchino will be honored at this year’s 34th ASCAP Screen Music Awards, which takes place on May 15 in Beverly Hills. The Academy Award-, Emmy Award- and Grammy Award-winning composer whose credits include Up, The Incredibles, Lost, Ratatouille, Star Trek, Jurassic World, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Doctor Strange, among dozens of other titles, will receive the ASCAP Henry Mancini Award.
‘The Greatest Showman’ Soundtrack Sing-A-Long Edition Announced
Atlantic Records will release a new soundtrack album for the hit movie musical The Greatest Showman. The Deluxe Sing-A-Long Edition features all the original songs from the movie written by Benj Pasek & Justin Paul as featured on the original soundtrack album on the first disc, as well as a bonus disc featuring sing-a-long tracks and an exclusive 32-page lyrics booklet. The soundtrack is set to be released on October 19, 2018 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Pasek & Paul received a Golden Globe, as well as an Academy Award nomination for the song This Is Me performed by Keala Settle.
Benj Pasek & Justin Paul to Write Original Songs for Blue Sky Studios’ ‘Foster’
Variety is reporting that Benj Pasek and Justin Paul will write original songs for Fox Animation/Blue Sky Studios’ upcoming animated feature Foster. The film is directed by Karen Disher (Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas) & Steve Martino (The Peanuts Movie, Horton Hears a Who!) and revolves around a young super fan who isn’t satisfied with the ending to a series of fantasy books and finds himself transported into a mystical world with the books’ author. Tim Federle (Ferdinand) wrote the screenplay for the movie, which will mark Blue Sky’s first musical project.
Alexandre Desplat Wins Golden Globe for ‘The Shape of Water’
Alexandre Desplat has received his second Golden Globe Awards in the Original Score category for Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water. He previously received a Golden Globe for his music for The Painted Veil. Check out the composer’s acceptance speech after the jump. The other composers nominated in the Best Original Score category were Carter Burwell (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Jonny Greenwood (Phantom Thread), John Williams (The Post) and Hans Zimmer (Dunkirk). In the Original Song category, Benj Pasek & Justin Paul won the award for the song This Is Me from The Greatest Showman.
