Jónsi & Alex have written two new compositions for Cameron Crowe’s upcoming romantic comedy Aloha. The movie also features music by Hawaiian music legends Genoa Keawe and The Royal Hawaiian Serenaders, as well as slack-key guitar players Cyril Pahinui, Bobby Ingano and Ledward Kaapana. The film’s soundtrack album will also feature songs by Beck, David Crosby, Fleetwood Mac, The Blue Nile, Kurt Vile, Josh Ritter, The Tallest Man on Earth, Radical Face, Evening Hymns and Vancouver Sleep Clinic. John Powell & Jónsi Win Annie Award for ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’
Composer John Powell and singer/ songwriter Jónsi were honored with an Annie Award in the Outstanding Achievement, Music in an Animated Feature Production category for the music from DreamWorks Animation’s hit animated film How to Train Your Dragon 2. Producer Bonnie Arnold accepted their award at the ceremony at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles. The other contenders in the category were Danny Elfman for Mr. Peabody and Sherman, Nicole Renald for Cheatin’, Bruno Coulais & Kila for Song of the Sea
and Joe Hisaishi for The Tale of Princess Kaguya
. Powell has previously won four Annie Awards for the original How to Train Your Dragon film, as well as the features Kung Fu Panda and Shrek and the short Kung Fu Panda: Secret of the Furious Five.

‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’ Soundtrack Details
The details of the soundtrack album for the animated feature sequel How to Train Your Dragon 2 have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by John Powell (The Bourne Trilogy, Kung Fu Panda, Shrek) who received his first Oscar nomination for his score for the original 2010 film. Also included is the original song Where No One Goes by Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi. The soundtrack will be released on June 10, 2014 by Relativity Music Group and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out three full tracks from the album after the jump. How to Train Your Dragon 2 is directed by Dean DeBlois and features the voice talent of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller and Kristen Wiig. The movie just world premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and will be released nationwide on June 13, 2014.
Jónsi and Alex to Score WGN America’s ‘Manhattan’
Sigur Rós front man Jónsi and Alex Somers have been hired to score the upcoming WGN America original series Manhattan. The show is created by Sam Shaw (Masters of Sex) and stars John Benjamin Hickey, Olivia Williams, Daniel Stern, Ashley Zukerman and Rachel Brosnahan. The drama is set against the backdrop of the clandestine mission to build the world’s first atomic bomb in Los Alamos, New Mexico and follows the brilliant but flawed scientists and their families. Shaw is also executive producing the Skydance TV, Tribune Studios and Lionsgate TV production with David Ellison & Dana Goldberg (World War Z, Star Trek Into Darkness), Marcy Ross and Thomas Schlamme (The West Wing, Sports Night) who also directed the pilot episode.
‘The Wilderness of James’ to Feature Music by Jónsi & Alex
Jónsi & Alex have written the music for the indie coming-of-age drama The Wilderness of James. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Michael Johnson and stars Kodi Smit-McPhee, Virginia Madsen, Isabelle Fuhrman, Evan Ross and Danny DeVito. The movie follows a boy dealing with the absence of his father who begins to explore the wilderness of an intoxicating city. Through an infatuating girl and a charismatic stranger, he starts to open his eyes as he’s forced to deal with some hard truths. Johnson has also written the screenplay. Jonathan Schwartz (Like Crazy, Smashed) and Andrea Sperlig (Harsh Times) are producing the project for Super Crispy Enterainment. Jónsi & Alex is a collaboration of Sigur Rós frontman Jonsi and his partner Alex Somers.
Sigur Rós Frontman Jónsi to Collaborate with John Powell on ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’
During the DreamWorks Animation panel at Comic-Con in San Diego, it was announced that Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi will contribute three new compositions, including direct collaborations with composer John Powell, to the studio’s upcoming animated film sequel How to Train Your Dragon 2. It was also confirmed that Powell will return to compose the score following his Oscar-nominated work on the 2010 original film. The sequel is directed by Dean DeBlois (Lilo & Stitch) and features the voice talent of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, T.J. Miller, Kristen Wiig and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. They are joined by newcomers to the series, Cate Blanchett, Djimon Hounsou and Kit Harrington. The movie is set five years after the original film and follows Hiccup and Toothless as they discover a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider.

Six movies are opening nationwide this holiday weekend. Three movies already opened on Wednesday and two films will be receiving a wide release on Christmas Day.
Among the December 21 releases is the thriller The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo directed by David Fincher and starring Rooney Mara, Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer, Robin Wright, Stellan Skarsgard and Joely Richardson. The film’s music is written by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Reznor’s label Null Records has released a number of different soundtrack editions, including a 6-track sampler, which can be downloaded for free on the label’s website. Also already out in wide release is Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin produced by Peter Jackson and starring Simon Pegg, Daniel Craig, Cary Elwes and Andy Serkis. ‘We Bought a Zoo’ Soundtrack Announced
Pitchfork (via The Playlist) has revealed the soundtrack details for Cameron Crowe’s comedy drama We Bought a Zoo. The album features the original music from the movie by Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi who makes his studio feature scoring debut on the project. Also included on the soundtrack are reworked versions of songs from the musician’s 2010 solo album, along with Sigur Rós’s Hoppipolla. Jónsi collaborated with Russell Crowe on one of the tracks and composer Nico Muhly is providing the orchestral arrangements. Sigur Rós’ Jónsi to Score Cameron Crowe’s ‘We Bought a Zoo’
The AV Club (via The Playlist) has revealed that Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi is scoring Cameron Crowe’s upcoming comedy drama We Bought a Zoo. The film is based on Benjamin Mee’s memoir and revolves around a widowed father who buys a dilapidated zoo in hopes of making a fresh start. He and his children, along with a small but loyal staff, work to get the zoo reopened. The film is starring Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Elle Fanning, Angus Macfadyen and Thomas Hayden Church. Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada, Morning Glory) is adapting Mee’s memoir for the screen and Julie Torn (Unstoppable, Red Riding Hood) is producing. The movie marks the first major scoring assignment for Jónsi Birgisson.
