Jon Brion is composing the music for the short film Curmudgeons. The movie is directed by Danny DeVito and stars himself, alongside David Margulies, Lucy DeVito, Sarah Nina Hayon and Kett Turton. The comedy follows a pair of senior citizens who have a relationship that shocks both their families. Joshua Conkel has written the screenplay. Danny & Lucy DeVito are also producing the project with Jake DeVito.

Jon Brion to Score Craig Johnson’s ‘Wilson’
Jon Brion has been hired to score the upcoming comedy drama Wilson. The film is directed by Craig Johnson (The Skeleton Twins, True Adolescents) and stars Woody Harrelson, Laura Dern, Judy Greer, Isabella Amara and Cheryl Hines. The movie is based on the graphic novel of the same title by Daniel Clowes (Ghost World, Art School Confidential) and follows a lonely, neurotic middle-aged misanthrope who reunites with his estranged wifeand gets a shot at happiness when he learns he has a teenage daughter he’s never met. Clowes has also written the screenplay.

Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the superhero movie Ant-Man directed by Peyton Reed and starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Judy Greer, Tip “TI” Harris, Wood Harris, Jordi Mollà and Michael Douglas. The film’s original music is composed by Christophe Beck (Frozen, Elektra, Edge of Tomorrow, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score and other music from the Marvel Studios production. No word yet on a soundtrack release. Trainwreck follows a commitment-averse woman who is trying to get past her self-sabotaging ways. Four new movies opened nationwide on Christmas Day:
Opening in most theaters is the drama Unbroken directed by Angelina Jolie and starring Jack O’Connell, Domhnall Gleeson, Miyavi, Garrett Hedlund and Finn Wittrock. The film’s original music is composed by Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Queen, The Grand Budapest Hotel). Parlophone Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as the original song Miracles performed by Coldplay. Also opening wide is the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Into the Woods directed by Rob Marshall and starring Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, James Corden, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Tracey Ullman, Christine Baranski and Johnny Depp. The movie features songs composed by Stephen Sondheim (Sweeney Todd). Jon Brion to Score Judd Apatow’s ‘Trainwreck’
Jon Brion is reuniting with director Judd Apatow (The 40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up) on the upcoming comedy Trainwreck. The film is written by comedian Amy Schumer who also stars in the film alongside Bill Hader, LeBron James, Brie Larson, Tilda Swinton, John Cena and Ezra Miller. The movie follows a commitment-averse woman who is trying to get past her self-sabotaging ways. Apatow is also producing the project with Barry Mendel (The Sixth Sense, Bridesmaids, The Royal Tenenbaums). Brion has previously scored Apatow’s last feature This is 40 and appeared on screen in the director’s 2009 film Funny People.
Theo Green Co-Scoring Rupert Wyatt’s ‘The Gambler’
Theo Green has recently co-scored the upcoming drama The Gambler. The film is directed by Rupert Wyatt (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and stars Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, Brie Larson, Michael K. Williams and Jessica Lange. The movie based on the 1974 film of the same title starring James Caan follows a college professor who gets caught up in the dangerous world of high-stakes underground gambling. William Monahan (The Departed) has written the screenplay. Wahlberg is also producing the Closest to the Hole and Leverage Entertainment production with Stephen Levinson (Contraband, Entourage, Irwin Winkler (Raging Bull, Goodfellas), Robert Chartoff (Rocky) & David Winkler (Rocky Balboa).

The movie is a remake of the 1974 film of the same title written by James Toback and starring James Caan and follows a literature professor with a gambling problem whose vices cause his life to spiral out of control. William Monahan (The Departed, Kingdom of Heaven, Body of Lies) has written the screenplay. Irwin Winkler (Raging Bull, Rocky, Goodfellas), Robert Chartoff (Rocky, Ender’s Game), Stephen Levinson (Entourage, Contraband) and David Winkler (Rocky Balboa) are producing the project.

Expected to top the weekend box office is the film adaptation of the bestselling novel The Hunger Games: Catching Fire directed by Francis Lawrence and starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland. Walt Disney Records to Release Jon Brion’s ‘The Blue Umbrella’ Score
Walt Disney Records will release a soundtrack for Pixar’s animated short The Blue Umbrella. The single features the film’s music composed by Jon Brion (Magnolia, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) featuring vocals by Sarah Jaffe. Also included is an instrumental version of the Blue Umbrella suite. The two-track single will be released on July 9, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips. The Blue Umbrella is directed by Saschka Unseld and follows two umbrellas that fall eternally in love. Marc Greenberg is producing the film. The short is attached to Pixar’s Monsters University, which is currently playing in theaters nationwide. Jon Brion Scoring ‘Starbuck’ Remake ‘Delivery Man’
Jon Brion is currently scoring the upcoming comedy Delivery Man. The film written and directed by Ken Scott is a remake of the director’s French-Canadian 2011 film Starbuck and stars Vince Vaughn, Chris Pratt, Cobie Smulders, Britt Robertson and Jack Reynor. The movie follows a man who is informed that he has fathered 533 children via sperm donations he made twenty years earlier. When a few hundred of the children want to meet their father, he must decide whether or not he will step up and reveal his identity. Andre Rouleau (Goon, An American Haunting) is producing the DreamWorks Pictures production and Scott Mednick, Ray Angelic (Synecdoche, New York) and Mark Sourian are executive producing.
