Howe Records will release three new soundtrack albums for a number of films directed by David Cronenberg featuring music written by the director’s regular composer Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Silence of the Lambs). The first release features the complete and remastered score for the 1996 psychological thriller Crash starring James Spader, Deborah Kara Unger, Elias Koteas, Holly Hunter and Rosanna Arquette. The soundtrack will be released on October 14, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The second new Collector’s Edition features the complete score for the 1988 drama Dead Ringers starring Jeremy Irons and Geneviève Bujold. Click here to pre-order the CD. Howard Shore to Receive Maestro Award at Billboard/THR Film & TV Music Conference
Howard Shore has been chosen to receive the Maestro Award at this year’s Billboard/Hollywood Reporter Film and TV Music Conference, which is being held November 5 and 6 at Universal Studios in Hollywood. The Academy Award-, Golden Globe- and Grammy-winning composer is best known for his music for Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He also scored such films as The Silence of the Lambs, The Aviator, Hugo, Mrs. Doubtfire, Big, Philadelphia, The Departed and Ed Wood. He is currently composing the music for the final installment in The Hobbit series The Battle of Five Armies. He recently also scored Jon Stewart’s directorial debut Rosewater, which will be released this fall and David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars, which premiered in May at the Cannes Film Festival.

The full details of the soundtrack album for David Cronenberg’s drama Maps to the Stars have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Silence of the Lambs, Hugo). The soundtrack will be released on September 9, 2014 by Howe Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label has previously released a single featuring a track from the composer’s score earlier this year. Maps to the Stars stars Julianne Moore, John Cusack, Mia Wasikowska, Robert Pattinson, Olivia Williams, Evan Bird and Sarah Gadon and tells the story of an archetypical Hollywood dynasty, including a psychotherapist, who has made a fortune with his self-help manuals.
Howard Shore Scoring Jon Stewart’s ‘Rosewater’
Howard Shore has composed the music for the upcoming drama Rosewater. The film marks the directorial debut of The Daily Show host Jon Stewart and stars Gael Garcia Bernal, leading an international cast. The movie is based on the memoir Then They Came for Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity and Survival and tells the true story of Canadian-Iranian BBC journalist Maziar Bahari who spent four months in an Iranian prison being blindly interrogated by a man who smelled of rosewater. Stewart has also written the screenplay and is also producing the OddLot Entertainment production with Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men, Moneyball, The Social Network) and Gigi Pritzker (Drive, Ender’s Game).

Howe Records has released a single featuring a track from the soundtrack for David Cronenberg’s drama Maps to the Stars. ‘She-Devil’ Score Album Announced
Music Box Records has announced the world premiere release of the score for the 1989 comedy She-Devil directed by Susan Seidelman and starring Meryl Streep, Roseanne Barr, Ed Begley Jr., Sylvia Miles and Linda Hunt. The film’s music is composed and conducted by Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Departed, The Silence of the Lambs). The album features 42 minutes of the composer’s score. A soundtrack for the comedy was released in 1989, but only featured songs from and inspired by the film. Danny Elfman to Attend ‘Alice in Wonderland’ World Premiere Live to Projection Concert
The 21st Century Symphony Orchestra has announced that Danny Elfman will be attending a series of concerts this March at the KKL Luzern Concert Hall in Lucerne, Switzerland. On March 21, 2014, the concert Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton will make its premiere in Switzerland. The event, which features the composer’s music for the director’s films such as Batman, Nightmare Before Christmas, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow and Big Fish world premiered last year at London’s Royal Albert Hall and will also be performed in other cities this spring and summer, including Prague, Mexico City, Seattle and San Diego. On March 22 & 23, the KKL will host the world premiere performance of Elfman‘s original score for Burton’s Alice in Wonderland performed live to projection.

Already in theaters since Wednesday is the sci-fi action movie RoboCop directed by José Padilha and starring Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams and Samuel L. Jackson. Pedro Bromfman who previously scored Padilha’s Elite Squad movies has composed the film’s original score. The film’s music is composed by Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, Inception) and Rupert Gregson-Williams (Bee Movie, Click). Scoring ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ Production Diary
Peter Jackson has published his final production diary of the year for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug focusing on the music for the fantasy epic. The video features interviews with composer Howard Shore who is joined at his writing studio by Doug Adams, author of the book The Music of The Lord of the Rings Films. Also interviewed are Jackson himself, conductor/orchestrator Conrad Pope and a number of musicians who performed on the score. The video also features footage from the score’s recording sessions, which fully took place at the Wellington Town Hall in New Zealand for the first time. Lionsgate and Motown Records have released a soundtrack album featuring the film’s songs by artists including including Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, James Brown, the Jackson 5, Boyz II Men & Brian McKnight and Ashanti.
