Howe Records will be releasing the soundtrack album for David Cronenberg’s upcoming drama Cosmopolis. The album features the film’s original score by Academy Award-winning composer Howard Shore performed by the indie rock band Metric. The composer has also co-written three original songs with the Canadian band. Also featured on the soundtrack is the song Mecca by Somali singer/rapper K’NAAN. Cosmopolis is based on the novel by Don DeLillo and stars Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche and Paul Giamatti. The film about a multimillionaire who risks his entire fortune to bet against the yen on a cataclysmic day will be premiering at the Cannes Film Festival later this month and is also set to be released throughout Europe over the next few months.

Palm Springs Film Festival to Honor Howard Shore
Howard Shore will be honored with the Frederick Loewe Music Award at the 23rd annual Palm Springs International Film Festival. The composer will be receiving the award for his work on Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, for which he already received a Golden Globe, as well as a Broadcast Film Critics Association Movie Award nomination. Shore has previously won the prize in 2005 for his score for Scorsese’s The Aviator. The composer will be be recognized at a gala on January 7, 2012 at the Palm Springs Convention Center along with other honorees George Clooney, Glenn Close, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Octavia Spencer, Jessica Chastain, Michelle Williams and directors Stephen Daldry and Michel Hazanavicius.
‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Teaser Trailer
The teaser trailer for Peter Jackson’s upcoming fantasy film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey premiered last night and features new original music composed Howard Shore, including what appears to be a new theme. The first prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Graham McTavish, Andy Serkis, Christopher Lee, Benedict Cumberbatch, Hugo Weaving, James Nesbitt, Orlando Bloom, Ian Holm and Elijah Wood will be released on December 14, 2012.

Three new movies opened in wide release this past Wednesday:
The film released in most theaters this Thanksgiving weekend is the new movie adaptation of The Muppets directed by James Bobin and starring Amy Adams, Jason Segel and Chris Cooper. The film’s score is written by Christophe Beck and Bret McKenzie serves as the project’s music supervisor and has also written several songs for the movie. ‘Hugo’ Soundtrack Details
The details of the soundtrack release for Martin Scorsese’s Hugo have been revealed. Howard Shore to Collaborate with Metric on David Cronenberg’s ‘Cosmopolis’
Metric have announced on their official website that they are teaming up with composer Howard Shore on the score for the drama Cosmopolis. As previously reported, Shore is scoring the movie directed by David Cronenberg and starring Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, Kevin Durand, Jay Baruchel and Samantha Morton. The film centers on a multimillionaire who risks his fortune to bet against the yen on a cataclysmic day. Metric have previously collaborated with Shore on The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, for which they co-wrote the end titles song Eclipse (All Yours). Cosmopolis has recently entered post-production and is expected to be released in 2012.
‘A Dangerous Method’ Soundtrack Details
Sony Classical will be releasing the soundtrack for David Cronenberg’s new thriller A Dangerous Method. The album features the original score from the movie by composer Howard Shore, as well as Richard Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll performed by Lang Lang. The soundtrack will be released in the UK on September 16, 2011. A release in the US is expected closer to the movie’s domestic opening in LA and New York on November 23. (UPDATE, November 2011): The album is now scheduled for a domestic release on November 21 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon. A Dangerous Method starring Viggo Mortensen, Keira Knightley, Michael Fassbender and Vincent Cassell chronicles the intense relationship between Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud and the birth of psychoanalyis. The movie premiered last week at the Venice Film Festival.

The credits on the official movie website of Martin Scorsese’s upcoming drama Hugo reveal that a soundtrack album for the movie will be released on Howard Shore‘s own label Howe Records. According to The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films, Shore’s music will be recorded later this year. Scorsese has previously worked with the composer on a number of films including The Aviator, The Departed, The Gangs of New York and After Hours. More details on the soundtrack album are expected to be announced within the next few months. Howard Shore: A Composer’s Dream
This weekend, Howard Shore was among the recipients of the Governor’s General’s Performing Arts Awards. The awards celebrate Canadian performers whose extraordinary lifetime achievements have contributed significantly to the enrichment of Canada’s cultural life. The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films reports that the National Board of Canada has produced six short films to celebrate the lives of the 2011 recipients. The short about Shore is called A Composer’s Dream and demonstrates how the Academy Award-winner has distinguished himself as one of Canada’s most accomplished and versatile composers. C7nema recently reported that Howard Shore is attached to reunite with his long term collaborator David Cronenberg to write the score for the upcoming drama Cosmopolis. The film based on the Don DeLillo tome is adapted for the screen by Cronenberg and follows a multimillionaire who risks his entire fortune to bet against the yen on a cataclysmic day. The movie stars Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche and Paul Giamatti. Cronenberg and Shore have previously collaborated numerous times, most recently on A History of Violence and Eastern Promises. Cosmopolis is currently in pre-production and is set to start shooting this May.
