Academy Award-nominated songwriter Diane Warren has written the original song Hide the Hurt for the documentary Cracked Up. The track is performed by Macy Gray and will be released as a digital single tomorrow, September 13 by Artistry Music and will be available to stream and download on Amazon Music. Warren who has been Oscar-nominated four out of the last five years has previously contributed original songs for this year’s Late Night, Breakthrough and Miss Bala. Cracked Up directed by Michelle Esrick follows the comedian, actor, and SNL icon Darrell Hammond and examines the lasting effects of childhood trauma. The documentary will be released in New York this weekend by Abramorama and will expand to other markets over the next couple of weeks.

The movie will examine abuse and cover-ups within the entertainment industry and explore the lack of parity and diversity within the entertainment industry. Regina Scully, Dan Cogan, Alexandra Johnes, Geralyn Dreyfous and Jennifer Siebel Newsom are producing the project.

The Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) has named Academy Award-nominated songwriter Diane Warren and composer Thomas Newman as the newest SCL Ambassadors. The SCL Ambassador Program was established to revere the elite group of screen composers, lyricists and songwriters whose contributions have made a significant impact in music for film, television, and video games. The talent showcased by these individuals has set the standard for music in visual media and they are leading representatives of their craft. SCL honored Ambassadors include James Newton Howard, Dave Grusin, The Sherman Brothers, Elliot Goldenthal, Lalo Schifrin, Hal David, Burt Bacharach, Leiber and Stoller, Mark Isham and Randy Newman.

The Creative Arts Emmy Awards are being handed out this afternoon at the Microsoft Theatre LA LIVE in Downtown Los Angeles. Sean Callery has won his fourth Emmy Award for the main titles theme for his main titles theme for Netflix’s Jessica Jones. He previously received three Emmys for his work on 24. Victor Reyes was honored with his first Emmy Award in the Music Composition for a Limited Series, Movie or a Special category for his music for AMC’s The Night Manager. Mac Quayle received his first Emmy Award for his music for USA’s Mr. Robot in the Music Composition for a Series category.
Dan Romer, Christophe Beck & Tom Holkenborg Win Hollywood Music in Media Awards
Last night, the 6th Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMAA) were handed out at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, CA. Dan Romer was awarded for his score for Cary Fukunaga’s critically acclaimed Netflix original movie Beasts of No Nation in the Best Original Score – Feature Film category. Tom Holkenborg was honored for his music for George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road in the Original Score – Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film and thanked fellow nominees Christophe Beck and Harry Gregson-Williams for giving him his first jobs in the industry during his acceptance speech. Christophe Beck received his second HMMA for his work for The Peanuts Movie in the Best Score – Animated Film category. In addition, Miriam Cutler won the prize for her music for The Hunting Ground in the Original Score – Documentary category.
