Quartet Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for the 1990 Paramount Pictures comedy Crazy People directed by Tony Bill and starring Dudley Moore and Daryl Hannah. The album features the film’s original score composed and conducted by Cliff Eidelman (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, He’s Just Not That Into You, Christopher Columbus: The Discovery). The soundtrack featuring the complete original score plus several alternate bonus tracks will be released on Friday, July 26. Varèse Sarabande’s 35th Anniversary Celebration
On Saturday night, film music label Varèse Sarabande hosted their 35th Anniversary Concert Gala at the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro, California. The sold out concert was hosted and produced by Varese Sarabande’s Robert Townson and performed by the Golden State Pops Orchestra (GSPO) and Chorale. The event featured a special guest performance by Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer who performed a suite from Driving Miss Daisy on piano featuring Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger and violinist Ann Marie Calhoun. The suite also included a preview from the composer’s score for the upcoming Superman reboot Man of Steel. Additionally, Academy Award-winner Michael Giacchino (Up) conducted the world premiere of a special suite from his score for Star Trek Into Darkness and John Powell (The Bourne Trilogy) conducted a suite from his Oscar-nominated score for Dreamworks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon.
Complete ‘Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country’ Score by Cliff Eidelman Released
Intrada Records has announced the world premiere release of the complete score for the 1991 sci-fi movie Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Cliff Eidelman has composed the music for the film directed by Nicholas Meyer and starring William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley and Christopher Plummer. The 2-CD set features the complete score written by the composer on one disc and the original 1991 soundtrack album on the other disc. Also included are several alternates plus both trailer scores, to date the only original trailer music recorded for a Star Trek film. Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the supernatural thriller Chronicle directed by Josh Trank and starring Michael B. Jordan, Alex Russell and Ashley Hinshaw. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring 14 electro and indie rock tracks from the movie by artists including Blond Acid Cult, The LongCut, Bad Veins, Simian Mobile Disco, Deastro, Ab & The Sea, Capsule, Congorock and M83. Also opening wide is the gothic horror thriller The Woman in Black directed by James Watkins and starring Daniel Radcliffe, Ciarán Hinds, Janet McTeer, Sophie Stuckey and Liz White. The film’s score is composed by Marco Beltrami. Silva Screen Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally next Tuesday, February 7 and the CD version is set for a release on March 27. ‘Big Miracle’ Soundtrack Details
Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the upcoming drama Big Miracle. The album includes the original score from the film by composer Cliff Eidelman (He’s Just Not That Into You, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country). The soundtrack will be released on January 24, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Big Miracle is directed by Ken Kwapis and stars Drew Barrymore, John Krasinski, Kristen Bell, Dermot Mulroney, Tim Blake Nelson, Vinessa Shaw, Stephen Root and Ted Danson. The movie is based on a true story and centers on a small-town news reporter and a Greenpeace volunteer who enlist the help of rival superpowers to save three majestic gray whales trapped under the ice of the Arctic Circlewill.
Cliff Eidelman to Score ‘Everybody Loves Whales’
Cliff Eidelman has signed on to score the drama Everybody Loves Whales. The movie stars Drew Barrymore, John Krasinski, Kristen Bell, Dermot Mulroney, Tim Blake Nelson, Vinessa Shaw, Stephen Root and Ted Danson. The film tells the true story of a small-town news reporter and a Greenpeace volunteer who enlist the help of rival superpowers to save three majestic gray whales trapped under the ice of the Arctic Circle. The project is directed by Ken Kwapis who has worked with Eidelman numerous times, most recently on the 2009 romantic comedy hit He’s Just Not That Into You. The movie also marks the composer’s first scoring assignments since his last collaboration with Kwapis. Everybody Loves Whales is based on Tom Rose’s nonfiction book Freeing the Whales: How the Media Created the World’s Greatest Non-Event and is adapted for the screen by Jack Amiel and Michael Begler (The Prince and Me, The Shaggy Dog). Universal Pictures has set a January 27, 2012 release date for the film.
