Last weekend, Michael Giacchino conducted a concert on the roof of J.J. Abrams’ production company Bad Robot. The scores performed include the Bad Robots productions Super 8, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Star Trek and the TV show Lost. David Poland from Movie City News has published a video of the performance of the Super 8 suite from the concert and also interviewed the composer about his work on the film. Erased Tapes will be releasing a soundtrack album for the indie comedy drama Another Happy Day directed by Sam Levinson and starring  Ellen Barkin, Kate Bosworth, Ellen Burstyn, Thomas Haden Church, George Kennedy, Ezra Miller and Demi Moore. The album includes the orginal music from the film by Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds. The soundtrack will be released on February 24, 2012 and is available for pre-order on the label’s website. Another Happy Day premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award. Following our news article from last Saturday about Dario Marianelli scoring Brian De Palma’s Passion, we have just received word from SBS Production that they have accidentally sent out incorrect information and that the composer is not involved in the film at this point. According to the production company, Pino Donaggio is attached to write the music for the drama instead. The project would mark the composer’s first collaboration with De Palma since 1992’s Raising Cain. They have also worked together on Body Double, Dressed to Kill, Carrie, Blow Out and Home Videos. Passion is a remake of the French psychodrama Love Crime (Crime d’amour) and stars Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace. The movie produced by Saïd Ben Saïd (Carnage, Love Crime) is currently in pre-production and shooting is scheduled to begin this March in Berlin. No release date has been set yet.

Ludovic Bource has received the Critics Choice Movie Award for his score for the black-and-white romance The Artist directed by Michel Hazanavicius at tonight’s 17th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. The other composers nominated in the Best Score category were Cliff Martinez (Drive), Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Howard Shore (Hugo) and John Williams (War Horse). Bource has previously received the European Film Award, the Best Use of Music in Film Award by the Boston Film Critics, as well as as the Best Score Award by the Washington DC Film Critics. Craig Armstrong has been hired to score Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming drama The Great Gatsby. The movie based on the classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher and Callan McAuliff. Luhrmann adapted the novel with his writing partner Craig Pierce (Romeo + Juliet) and is also producing the project with Oscar-winning production and costume designer Catherine Martin (Moulin Rouge!), Douglas Wick (Gladiator), Lucy Fisher (Memoirs of a Geisha), Catherine Knapman & G. Mac Brown (Australia). The novel has spawned several film adaptations in the past, most notably 1974’s version directed by Jack Clayton, starring Robert Redford and featuring music by Nelson Riddle who won the Academy Award for his work on the film. Armstrong has previously scored the director’s Romeo + Juliet, as well as the Oscar-nominated musical Moulin Rouge!, for which he also provided most of the orchestral song arrangements. Watertower Music has announced a soundtrack release for the family adventure sequel Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. The album features the original score from the film by composer Andrew Lockington who also wrote the music for Journey to the Center of the Earth. Also included on the release are two versions of What a Wonderful World performed by lead actor Dwayne Johnson and produced by film composer/orchestrator William Ross. Lakeshore Records has revealed the details of the score release for the action horror sequel Underworld Awakening. The album features the original score from the movie by Paul Haslinger who previously scored the original film in the series, as well as the 2009 prequel Rise of the Lycans. Also included are three tracks by Blue Stahli, Aesthetic Perfection and Angelspit. The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 24, 2012 and the CD will be out on February 14. Alexandre Desplat has revealed in a recent interview with Collider that he will be reuniting with French director Jacques Audiard this year. They have previously worked together on all of the director’s features including the crime drama A Prophet, which was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category two years ago. The director’s newest film is the drama Rust and Bone based on a short-story collection by Craig Davidson of the same title. The movie stars Marion Cotillard as a killer whale trainer who suffers a terrible accident during one evening’s performance and is left handicapped. Matthias Schoenarts, Celine Sallette and Bouli Lanners are co-starring. Audiard co-wrote the film’s screenplay with his writing partner on A Prophet, Thomas Bidegain and is also producing the film with Martine Cassinelli and Pascal Caucheteux. ‘The Grey’ Soundtrack Announced

Lakeshore Records has announced the details of the soundtrack for the action drama The Grey. The album includes the film’s original score written by Marc Streitenfeld (Robin Hood, American Gangster). The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 24, 2012 and the physical version is scheduled for a release on January 31. Sony Masterworks will be releasing the soundtrack album for the WWII drama Red Tails. The album includes the original score from the movie composed by Terence Blanchard (Inside Man, The 25th Hour). The soundtrack will be released on February 7, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips from all tracks on the album can be checked out below.
