EMI Music has announced the details of the soundtrack for Walt Disney Pictures’ Winnie the Pooh. The album includes the film’s songs written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, as well as selections from Henry Jackman’s original score. The soundtrack also features vocal performances and an original song by Zooey Deschanel. The album will be released in Europe on April 11, 2011. Fernando Velázquez is reuniting with director Juan Antonio Bayona on the upcoming drama The Impossible. The Spanish/American co-production stars Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts. The movie is based on a true story and centers on a family caught in mayhem of the tsunami that hit the coast of Thailand in 2004. Velázquez and Bayona previously worked together on the Award-winning 2007 mystery thriller The Orphange, with the composer’s score receiving a lot of attention. ‘Thor’ Soundtrack announced

UPDATE (03/19/2011): The final version of the soundtrack’s cover art has been added.

Buena Vista Records has announced the details for the soundtrack of the upcoming comic book adaptation of Thor. The album includes Patrick Doyle’s original score from the film and will be released in some European territories at the end of April and on May 3, 2011 in the US. Amazon has a soundtrack for Thor up for pre-order. Audio clips have been added below. Thor is directed by Kenneth Branagh and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Ray Stevenson, Kat Dennings, Rene Russo and Stellan Skarsgaard. The film is based on the Marvel comic books series and follows disabled medical student Donald Blake, who has an alter ego as the hammer-wielding Norse god Thor. Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch starring Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Jamie Chung, Carla Gugino and Jon Hamm features music by Tyler Bates and Marius DeVries. A soundtrack with songs from the movie has been released this week by Watertower Music. To listen to audio clips and download the album, visit Amazon and iTunes. Also opening wide is the family comedy Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules starring Zachary Gordon, Rachael Harris and Steve Zahn. The film’s music is composed by Edward Shearmur (visit our article on the scoring assignment). No soundtrack release has been announced. Theodore Shapiro’s score for the first part was released a couple of months after the film’s release, which makes it seem possible that a soundtrack release for the sequel will be coming out later this year. Marcelo Zarvos is currently finishing up work on the score for the upcoming HBO drama Too Big to Fail. The film directed by Curtis Hanson offers an intimate look at the financial crisis of 2008 and the group of powerbrokers who decided the fate of the world’s economy in a matter of a few weeks. The movie stars William Hurt as President George W. Bush’s Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, Paul Giamatti as Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernank, James Woods as Lehman Brothers CEO Dick Fuld and Ed Asner as Warren Buffett. Also starring is Billy Crudup, Matthew Modine, Tony Shalhoub, Topher Grace, Kathy Baker, Bill Pullman, Michael O’Keefe and Cynthia Nixon. ‘Rio’ Score Album Details

Varese Sarabande Records has revealed the details for the score album of the upcoming animated feature Rio. The album contains 18 tracks of John Powell’s original score for the film, as well as one track by Brazilian musician/songwriter Carlinhos Brown and Mikael Mutti. The soundtrack will be released on April 19, 2011. To order the score album, visit Amazon. As previously reported, a separate song album will be released on April 5 by Interscope Records and includes songs from the film by Sergio Mendez, will.i.am and Jamie Foxx. Since our last update on the music for the upcoming adventure sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, we have learned more information about Hans Zimmer’s soundtrack for the film. The music is being recorded this week in Los Angeles and one of the featured musicians that joined the production’s team is jazz trumpet player Arturo Sandoval. Sandoval is no stranger to film music, having previously worked on the soundtrack for Mambo Kings and having scored a few projects himself, including the Award-winning TV drama For Love and Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story starring Andy Garcia. Sandoval has won an Emmy Award for his original score for the film. He also previously worked with Hans Zimmer on this year’s animated feature Rango, which has lead to their second collaboration on the fourth Pirates movie. Sandoval joins Rodrigo y Garcia in the film’s team of musicians as reported earlier this year. Also involved in Rob Marshall’s movie is composer and conductor Eric Whitacre who has co-written one of the film’s new themes according to his blog. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Hop’ Soundtrack Details

Film Music Reporter has learned that composer Hal Lindes is currently writing the score for the upcoming drama The Lucky One. The film based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook, Dear John) centers on a Marine who survives three tours in Iraq and attributes his good fortune to a photograph he carried of a woman he has never met. He sets out to meet his good-luck charm when he returns to North Carolina. The movie stars Zac Efron, Taylor Schilling and Blythe Danner. Walt Disney Records recently announced a new collection of remixes of Daft Punk’s orginal music from the movie Tron: Legacy. The album features 15 tracks of reworks of Daft Punk’s score from electronic music artists including Paul Oakenfold, The Crystal Method and Moby. The compilation will be released on April 5, 2011 and can be pre-ordered at Amazon. The original Tron: Legacy soundtrack album was one of the most successful soundtrack releases of recent times and the first score album to enter the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 charts since 2005’s Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.
