Film Music Reporter has learned that composer Hal Lindes is currently writing the score for the upcoming drama The Lucky One. The film based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook, Dear John) centers on a Marine who survives three tours in Iraq and attributes his good fortune to a photograph he carried of a woman he has never met. He sets out to meet his good-luck charm when he returns to North Carolina. The movie stars Zac Efron, Taylor Schilling and Blythe Danner. The film is directed by Scott Hicks who collaborated with Lindes on his last movie, The Boys Are Back starring Clive Owen. Hicks has also previously worked with some major composers including James Newton Howard (Snow Falling on Cedars), Philip Glass (No Reservations), Mychael Danna (Hearts of Atlantis) and David Hirschfelder (Shine). He also directed the 2007 Philip Glass documentary Glass: A Portrait of Philip in Twelve Parts. The Lucky One marks Lindes’ first major studio project and is his biggest scoring assignment to date. The film was shot last fall and is currently in post-production. No release date has been set for the Warner Bros movie, but an announcement is expected soon.
