Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:

Horrible Bosses directed by Seth Gordon and starring Jason Bateman, Jason Sudekis, Charlie Day, Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey and Jamie Foxx features music by Christopher Lennertz. The composer collaborated with several musicians, including Money Mark, Mick McCready, Dave Levita, Chris Chaney, Stefan Lessard, Victor Indrizzo and DJ Cheapshot on the score. Also opening wide is the family comedy Zookeeper directed by Frank Coraci and starring Kevin James, Rosario Dawso, Leslie Bibb, Donnie Wahlberg and the voices of Sylvester Stallone, Adam Sandler, Nick Nolte, Cher, Jon Favreau and Judd Apatow. The film’s score is written by Rupert Gregson-Williams. As with most movies from Sandler’s production company Happy Madison Productions, no score album has been released. Milan Records will be releasing the soundtrack album for the French drama Sarah’s Key. The album includes the original score from the film composed by Max Richter, as well as several songs from the film by artists including Frehel, Loren Wilfong and Sarah Ber. The soundtrack will be released on June 19 and will be available to download on Amazon. Check out audio clips from all track on the album below.  Sarah’s Key (Elle s’appelait Sarah) is directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner and stars Kristin Scott Thomas as an American journalist living in Paris, Melusine Mayance and Niels Arestrup. Varese Sarabande has announced a soundtrack release for the upcoming horror comedy Fright Night. The album includes the score from the film written by Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones, Iron Man, Clash of the Titans). The soundtrack will be released on August 16, 2011. More details about the album are expected in a couple of weeks. Fright Night is directed by Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) and stars Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Christopher Mintz-Please, David Tennant and Toni Collette. The remake of the 1985 film about a teenager who discovers his new next-door neighbor is a vampire will be released in theaters on August 19. Read the rest of this entry »

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) has published the acceptance speeches at this year’s ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards. As reported last month, Angelo Badalamenti (Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive) received the ASCAP Henry Mancini Award, which was handed to him by director David Lynch at the event on June 23, 2011 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California. ‘Super 8’ Soundtrack Details

Varese Sarabande has announced the details for the soundtrack release for J.J. Abrams’ Super 8. The album features the original score by Michael Giacchino, including one cue not contained in the film. As reported in May, the soundtrack was originally supposed to come out on June 28, but the release date has been pushed back a few times and is now set for August 2, 2011.  To pre-order the CD, visit Amazon. Super 8 is produced by Steven Spielberg and stars Elle Fanning, Amanda Michalka, Ron Eldard, Kyle Chandler and Noah Emmerich. Lakeshore Records has revealed the details for the soundtrack release for the drama The Devil’s Double. The album includes the film’s score composed by Christian Henson. The soundtrack will be released on July 26, 2011 and is available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips from all track on the album below. The Devil’s Double is directed by Lee Tamahori and stars Dominic Cooper as an Iraqi who is forced to act as a body double for Uday Hussein (also played by Cooper), the son of Iraqi dictator Sadam Hussein. Erran Baron Cohen is set to score the upcoming comedy The Dictator starring his brother Sacha Baron Cohen who is also co-writing and producing the project. Anna Faris, Ben Kingsley and Jason Mantzoukas are co-starring in the movie directed by Larry Charles. Megan Fox and John C. Reilly are making cameos in the comedy. The film follows a heroic dictator who risks his life to ensure that democracy never comes to the country he so lovingly oppressed. Scott Rudin (The Social Network) is producing and screenwriters Alec Berg, David Mandel & Jeff Schaffer (Seinfeld) co-wrote the script and are also among the movie’s producers. Erran Baron Cohen previously wrote the music for Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Glorious Benefit Nation of Kazakhstan and 2009’s Bruno. Paramount Pictures will be releasing The Dictator worldwide on May 12, 2012.

Abkco Records will be releasing the official soundtrack album for the indie comedy Our Idiot Brother. The soundtrack features selections from the film’s score by Nathan Larson and Eric D. Johnson, as well as songs by such artists as Willie Nelson, Generationals, Fruit Bats, Daniel Tashian & Mindy Smith, El May and Carol King. The album will be released on August 23, 2011 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Sound clips are available in the box below. Our Idiot Brother is directed by Jesse Peretz (First Love, Last Rites, The Ex) and stars Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer, Steve Coogan, Hugh Dancy, Rashida Jones and Shirley Knight. Benoit Charest is scoring the upcoming sci-fi romance Upside Down. The movie is directed by Juan Diego Solanas and stars Kirsten Dunst and Jim Sturgess. The film centers on a a man searching an alternate universe for a long-lost love from his youth. James W. Skotchdopole (Man on Fire, Spy Game) is executive producing the big budget French/Canadian production and Alex McDowell (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Watchmen) is the project’s production designer. Charest’s best known film credit is the animated film The Triplets of Bellville, which earned the composer an Academy Award nomination for co-writing the song Belleville Redez-Vous. Upside Down already has distributors in place in several European countries. A domestic distribution deal has yet to be announced and a release later this year is expected.
