Only one movie is opening nationwide this weekend:

Expected to top the other films in release at the box office is the action comedy 21 Jump Street directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller and starring Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube, Brie Larson and Ellie Kemper. The film’s score is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh who previously collaborated with the director’s on their animated feature hit Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. No soundtrack album has been announced for the comedy. To learn more about the film based on the 80s TV series, check out our previous news article.

Opening in limited release is the Spanish-language comedy Casa de mi Padre directed by Matt Piedmont and starring Will Ferrell, Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna, Genesis Rodriguez, Nick Offerman & Pedro Armendariz, Jr. Andrew Feltenstein & John Nau have written the film’s score. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring selections from the score, as well Christina Aguilera’s title song earlier this week. ‘Days of Grace’ Soundtrack Details

Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for the Mexican thriller Days of Grace (Dias de gracia). The album features the film’s music by a number of top composers, including Nick Cave & Warren Ellis, Atticus Ross (The Social Network) and Shigeru Umebayashi (House of Flying Daggers). Also included is a cover version of the classic song Summertime performed by actress Scarlett Johansson and produced and arranged by Robert Del Naja of Massive Attack fame and Tim Goldsworthy. The soundtrack will be released digitally on April 10, 2012. The CD version will be coming out on May 8 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Days of Grace directed by Everardo Gout is set in Mexico City and weaves together three kidnappings that take place during the soccer World Cup tournaments in 2002, ’06 and ’10. The 2002 segment is scored by Cave & Warren, the 2006 segment by Atticus & Leopold Ross and Claudia Sarne (The Book of Eli) and the 2010 segment features music by Umebayashi. ‘The Road We’ve Traveled’ Features Music by Christophe Beck

Christophe Beck has scored the short documentary The Road We’ve Traveled, which premiered online last night. The movie is narrated by Tom Hanks and gives an inside look at the tough calls President Obama made during the last three years. The film features interviews with President Bill Clinton, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Elizabeth Warren, David Axelrod and Austan Goolsbee. The short is directed by Academy Award-winning director Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth) who previously worked with Beck on the 2010 documentary Waiting for Superman and a couple of shorts for the Obama campaign in 2008. Mark Mothersbaugh to Score the Lego Movie

Mark Mothersbaugh announced at the SXSW Festival (via The Playlist) that he will be scoring Warner Bros. Pictures’ animated feature film Lego. The movie written and  directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller will incorporate the latest animation and photo-real techniques. Chris McKay (Robot Chicken) is involved as a co-director and Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes) and Roy Lee  (How to Train Your Dragon, The Strangers) are producing. Jill Wilfert is executive producing for the Lego Company and Seanne Winslow is co-producing for Lynn Pictures. No plot details have been revealed yet, but the movie is said to feature both Lego-licensed and original characters. Mothersbaugh has scored the directors’ last two movies, including the animated hit Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and the action comedy 21 Jump Street, which is being released in theaters this weekend and was shown at SXSW. ‘The Raven’ Soundtrack Details

Relativity Music Group will be releasing the official soundtrack album for The Raven. The album features the original score from the movie written by Spanish composer Lucas Vidal (Vanishing on 7th Street, the upcoming The Cold Light of Day) who recently has been nominated in the Breakout Composer of the Year category by the International Film Music Critics Association. Sony Classical is releasing the soundtrack overseas on April 2, 2012 and Relativity Music has set an April 24 release date for the domestic release (click here to download the album). Audio clips can be checked out below. The Raven is directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta) and stars John Cusack, Alice Eve and Brendan Gleeson. The movie about the final days of author/poet Edgar Allan Poe has just been released in a few European markets, including the UK this past weekend and will be arriving in US theaters on April 27, 2012. Christopher Lennertz to Score Seth Gordon’s ‘Identity Thief’ and Eric Kripke’s & J.J. Abrams’ ‘Revolution’

Christopher Lennertz has signed on to score the upcoming action comedy Identity Thief (aka Identity Theft). The movie is directed by Seth Gordon who previously collaborated with the composer on last summer’s comedy hit Horrible Bosses. Identity Thief stars Melissa McCarthy who steals the identity of a man played by Jason Bateman. Steven Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness, The Weather Man) has written the script and Craig Mazin (The Hangover II) is performing a rewrite. Bateman is also producing the film with Scott Stuber (Safe House, Role Models) and Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon) is executive producing. ‘The Lucky One’ Soundtrack Details

The details of the soundtrack for the romance The Lucky One have been revealed. The album features the film’s songs by artists including Jules Larson, Correatown, Joshua Radin, Early Winters, Voxhaul Broadcast, A Fine Frenzy, Mayfield, Ponderosa, Terrance Simien, Hilmar and Brandi Carlile. The soundtrack will be released on April 17, 2012 by Watertower Music, both digitally and as an Amazon on demand CD-R. None of Mark Isham’s original score from the movie is included on the album. Audio clips from all tracks on the album can be checked out below. The Lucky One based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook) is directed by Scott Hicks and stars Zac Efron, Taylor Schilling and Blythe Danner. Charlie Clouser to Score ‘The Collection’

Charlie Clouser is scoring the upcoming horror thriller The Collection. The movie is the sequel to the 2009 horror film The Collector and is directed by Marcus Dunstan (who also wrote the screenplay for the Clouser-scored Saw IV, V, VI and The Final Chapter). The film stars Josh Stewart, Lee Tergesen, Christopher McDonald and Emma Fitzpatrick. Dunstan has co-written the script with Patrick Melton, his writing partner on the Saw series. Brett Forbes & Patrick Rizzotti (Pride) and Julie Richardson (Collateral) are producing the film. The project marks Clouser’s first feature assignment since the final installment of the Saw series. Mickey Liddell’s LD Distribution company is planning a theatrical release later this year.

‘Hunky Dory’ Soundtrack Details

Decca Records has released a soundtrack album for the coming of age musical Hunky Dory. The album includes the film’s songs performed by cast members including Minnie Driver and features cover versions of popular tracks by David Bowie, Roxy Music, The Byrds, Beach Boys and Nick Drake. Film composer Joby Talbot (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) provided the song arrangements and also scored the movie. The soundtrack is currently available overseas and can be ordered as an import on Amazon. To listen to audio clips from all tracks on the album, click here. No word yet on a domestic release. Hunky Dory stars Minnie Driver as a drama teacher who fights sweltering heat and general teenage apathy to put on an end of year rock and roll musical version of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Aneurin Barnard, Kimberley Nixon, Robert Pugh and Steve Speirs are co-starring in the film directed by Marc Evans (Snow Cake) and produced by Jonathan Finn (Billy Elliot) and Dan Lupovitz. Marcelo Zarvos to Score HBO’s Phil Spector Biopic

Marcelo Zarvos has been hired to score the upcoming and currently untitled HBO movie about Phil Spector. The film is written and directed by David Mamet (Glengarry Glenn Ross, The Untouchables) and stars Al Pacino as Spector and Helen Mirren as his defense attorney Linda Kenney Baden. The movie explores the client-attorney relationship between the legendary music producer and his attorney who represented Spector during his first trial for the murder of Lana Clarkson. Jeffrey Tambor, James Tolkan and Martin Jarvis are co-starring. Michael Hausman (Recount, The People vs. Larry Flynt) is producing the project while Barry Levinson is executive producing alongside Pacino and Mamet.  Zarvos has previously collaborated with Levinson a number of times, most recently on the sci-fi horror thriller The Bay, which is still awaiting a release date.
