Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the action thriller Drive directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Christina Hendricks, Albert Brooks, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman and Oscar Isaacs. The film’s score is written by Cliff Martinez. A soundtrack featuring the composer’s score, as well as several songs from the movie has been released on Lakeshore Records. Also opening wide is the thriller remake of Straw Dogs directed by Rod Lurie and starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Christina Hendricks, Albert Brooks, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman and Oscar Isaacs. The movie’s score is composed by Lurie’s regular musical collaborator Larry Groupé. Madison Gate has released a soundtrack featuring Groupé’s score. Chad Fischer has signed on to score the upcoming ABC drama Scandal. The show is created by Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy) and stars Kerry Washington as a former media relations consultant to the President who leaves the White House to open her own firm, hoping to start a new career and a new personal life. Henry Ian Cusick, Columbus Short, Guillermo Diaz, Darby Stanchfield, Katie Lowes, Tony Goldwyn and Jeff Perry are co-starring. Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin, Push) directed the pilot. Trevor Morris has been hired to score the thriller Fire with Fire. The movie is directed by David Barrett (The Mentalist) and stars Josh Duhamel, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Vincent D’Onofrio, Vinnie Jones, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Bonnie Sommerville. The film centers on a fireman in the witness protection program who takes matters into his own hands when he’s threatened by a man whom he’s set to testify. ‘Moneyball’ Soundtrack Details

The details of the Moneyball soundtrack have been revealed. Madison Gate Records is set to release the album on September 20, 2011 digitally and as an on-demand CD-R on Amazon. The soundtrack includes the original score by composer Mychael Danna, as well as two songs from the movie by Kerris Dorsey and This Will Destroy You. The movie starring Brad Pitt, Robin Wright, Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Chris Pratt recently premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and will be released in theaters on September 23, 2011. Varese Sarabande has announced the soundtrack release for the upcoming action comedy Tower Heist. The album includes the score by composer Christophe Beck and will be released on November 1, 2011. ‘Dolphin Tale’ Soundtrack Details

Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack for the family movie Dolphin Tale. The album includes the original score by composer Mark Isham. The soundtrack will be released on October 11, 2011 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. La-La Land Records has released two new limited editions of Jerry Goldsmith scores from the 90’s. First up is the release of the expanded score for the 1992 romantic fantasy Forever Young. The album is limited to 3000 copies and features almost 75 minutes of Goldsmith’s score, including a significant amount of previously unreleased music. The details for the soundtrack album for Real Steel have been revealed. The soundtrack will be released on October 4, 2011 by Interscope Records. The album features one track from the score by Danny Elfman, as well as several songs from the movie. Artists featured on the release are Bad Meets Evil, Beastie Boys, Foo Fighters, 50 Cent, Eminem, Prodigy & Tom Morello, Limp Bizkit and Alexi Murdoch. Rupert Gregson-Williams is the composer of the upcoming action comedy Here Comes the Boom. The film starring Kevin James, Henry Winkler, Salma Hayek and Charice centers on a teacher who moonlights as a mixed martial arts fighter in order to save his school’s music program. The movie is directed by Frank Coraci who has previously worked with Gregson-Williams on the 2006 comedy Click and this summer’s Zookeeper. Kevin James and Allan Loeb (21, The Dilemma) wrote the project’s screenplay and James is also producing with Todd Garner (Knight and Day, Paul Blart: Mall Cop.
