John Swihart has been tapped to score the upcoming indie comedy For a Good Time, Call….. The film is directed by Jamie Travis who makes his feature directing debut on the film. The movie stars Ari Graynor and Lauren Miller as two women who move in together after a loss of a relationship and a loss of a rent controlled home and start a phone sex line. Justin Long, Mark Webber and James Wolk are co-starring and it has been reported that Seth Rogen will make a cameo appearance in the film. Lauren Miller has also co-written the screenplay for the project with Katie Anne Naylon and both are also serving as producers alongside Josh Kesselman (Death at a Funeral) and Jennifer Weinbaum. James Newton Howard to Score ‘The Hunger Games’

James Newton Howard has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming film adaptation of The Hunger Games. He has stepped in for Danny Elfman who was originally announced to score the film and had to leave the project due to a scheduling conflict. The Hunger Games based on the bestselling novel by Suzanne Collins is directed by Gary Ross and stars Jennifer Lawrence as a young woman selected to represent her district in a televised fight to the death. Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Stanley Tucci, Elizabeth Banks and Woody Harrelson are co-starring in the film. The project marks Newton Howard’s third scoring assignment for the coming year following Snow White and the Huntsman and The Bourne Ultimatum. According to a recent interview with Elfman on KCRW, he is currently finishing up scoring Men in Black III and will move straight into working on Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie and Dark Shadows afterwards, which likely led to the scheduling conflict. Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘The Master’ to Feature Music by Jonny Greenwood

According to a recent posting on Twitter by Oliver Weindling, founder of the British label Babel (via The Playlist and Cigarettes & Red Vines), Jonny Greenwood has recently recorded music for Paul Thomas Anderson’s highly anticipated religious drama The Master. The Radiohead guitarist has previously scored Anderson’s last movie, the 2007 drama There Will Be Blood starring Daniel Day-Lewis. The Master stars Phillip Seymour Hoffman as a charismatic intellectual who hatches a faith-based organization that begins to catch on in America in 1952. Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Josh Close and Fiona Dourif are co-starring. Anderson is also producing the film with JoAnne Sellar & John Lesher (Magnolia, There Will Be Blood), Bill Pohlad (Into the Wild) and Megan Ellison (Wettest County). Read the rest of this entry »

In our fourth part of our fall television music series, we are taking a look at the new and returning shows on NBC:
Among the new shows on the network that premiered this fall is the fantasy crime drama Grimm created by David Greenwalt & Jim Kouf and starring Russell Hornsby, David Giuntoli, Bitsie Tulloch, Silas Weir Mitchell, Sasha Roiz and Reggie Lee. The show’s score is written by Richard Marvin (U-571, Surrogates, Six Feet Under). The drama centers on a homicide detective who learns that he is a descendent of a group known as “Grimms” who fight to keep humanity safe from the supernatural creatures of the world. Among the network’s new shows is the drama Person of Interest created by Jonathan Nolan (brother of Christopher Nolan) and starring Michael Emerson, Jim Caviezel, Taraji B. Henson and Kevin Chapman. The score for the show is composed by Ramin Djawadi (Iron Man, Game of Thrones). The show produced by J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk, Greg Plageman and David Semel centers on a presumed dead former-CIA agent who teams up with a mysterious billionaire to prevent violent crimes by using their own brand of vigilante justice. Ludovic Bource Wins European Film Award for ‘The Artist’

Ludovic Bource has won the European Film Award for his score for Michel Hazanavicius‘ black-and-white romance The Artist in the European Composer cateogory at tonight’s EFA Night 2011. The composer accepted his first European Film Award in person at the EFA ceremony in Berlin. The other composers nominated in the music category were Alexandre Desplat for The King’s Speech, Alberto Iglesias for The Skin I Live In (La piel que habito) and Mihály Vig for The Turin Horse (A Torinoi Lo). Bource is also considered to be one of the frontrunners for this season’s Academy Awards. Bource’s soundtrack for The Artist has been released by Sony Classical. While there are no movies opening wide this weekend, a number of films are receiving a limited release:
The most talked about movie opening this week is the drama Shame directed by Steve McQueen and starring Michael Fassbender, Carey Mulligan, James Badge Dale, Nicole Beharie and Hannah Ware. The film’s score is composed by Harry Escott. A soundtrack album featuring three tracks from the score, as well as several songs from the film performed by artists including Blondie, Howlin’ Wolf and actress Carey Mulligan will be released on December 6 by Sony Music. Receiving an Oscar qualifying run this weekend before opening wider next year is the drama The Lady directed by Luc Besson and starring Michelle Yeoh and David Thewlis. The film’s music is written by the director’s regular musical collaborator Eric Serra. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the song Soldier of Love by Sade has been released overseas by Strategic Marketing Group. ‘Answers to Nothing’ Soundtrack Announced

Lakeshore Records has announced the details of the soundtrack release for the indie drama Answers to Nothing. The album features the original score by composer Craig Richey (Friends with Money, The King of Kong: A Fistful of Dollars), as well as several songs from the movie by artists including Nico Vega, Brian Vander Ark and Imagine Dragons.
