‘Songs of Anarchy’ Volume 2 Announced

Columbia Records will release a new soundtrack album for the FX hit series Sons of Anarchy. Songs of Anarchy: Vol. 2 features songs from the show by artists including Jane’s Addiction, Greg Holden, The Forest Rangers, Joshua James, actress Katey Sagal, Battleme, Noah Gundersen, Franky Perez, Alison Mosshart, Curtis Stigers, Audra Mae and Franky Perez. The soundtrack will be released on November 19, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out after the jump. Walt Disney Records will release Partysaurus Overflow, the score from the Pixar animated short Partysaurus Rex. The music is composed by BT (The Fast and the Furious, Monster). The one-track single will be released on October 30, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Partysaurus Rex is the third short in the Toy Story Toons series and follows Rex who is getting left out in the bathroom and starts to make friends with bath toys. The film’s voice talent includes Wallace Shawn, Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. The short was attached to last month’s 3D re-release of Finding Nemo and is now available to download on iTunes.

Varese Sarabande has announced the newest titles in the label’s CD Club series. Among the latest releases is a deluxe edition for the 1991 action thriller sequel Die Hard 2 – Die Harder directed by Renny Harlin and starring Bruce Willis, Dennis Franz, John Amos and Bonnie Bedelia. The film’s music is composed and conducted by Michael Kamen (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Lethal Weapon) who has scored the first three part in the Die Hard series. The 2-CD set includes the composer’s score from the film, as well as several alternates and the end credits piece Finlandia composed by Jean Sibelius. While no major network shows will be premiering this coming week, NBC will air the pilot for Mockingbird Lane on Friday. The reboot of the classic CBS sitcom The Munsters is written by Bryan Fuller and directed by Bryan Singer. The one-hour special stars Jerry O’Connell as family patriarch Herman Munster, Portia de Rossi as his wife Lily and Eddie Izzard as Grandpa. Cheyenne Jackson, Mason Cook, Charity Wakefield and Beth Grant are also starring in the pilot. Jim Dooley who previously worked with Fuller on the critically acclaimed series Pushing Daisies has scored the pilot. Andrew Lockington is scoring the upcoming sci-fi series Primeval: New World. The show created by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens (Star Trek: Enterprise) is a North American spin-off of the British series Primeval, which ran for five seasons and aired in the US on Syfy and BBC America. Primeval: New World stars Niall Matter (Eureka), Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries) and Danny Rahim as a team of animal experts and scientists investigating paranormal events, while battling both prehistoric and futuristic creatures. Martin Wood and Gillian Horvath who previously worked with Lockington (Journey to the Center of the Earth, City of Ember) on the sci-fi series Sanctuary are among the executive producers of the Omni Film Productions show. Syfy and Hulu have picked up the US basic cable rights to the Primeval spinoff and are targeting a release in 2013. Read the rest of this entry »

Alberto Iglesias was chosen as Film Composer of the Year 2012 at the World Soundtrack Awards 2012, tonight’s closing event of the 39th Ghent Film Festival. Iglesias also received an award for his score for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy in the Best Original Film Score of the Year 2012 category. The composer’s other scores of the past year include The Monk (Le Moine) and Pedro Almadovar’s The Skin I Live In (La Piel Que Habito). In the Discovery of the Year category, Brian Byrne was awarded for his score for Rodrigo Garcia’s Albert Nobbs starring Glenn Close. The composer also received an award for the original song Lay Your Head Down from Albert Nobbs, which features lyrics by Glenn Close and is performed by Sinead O’Connor. Creazioni Artistiche Musical will release a soundtrack album for Bernardo Bertolucci’s drama Me and You (Io e te). The album features the film’s original music composed by Franco Piersanti (We Have a Pope, My Brother Is an Only Child), as well as the songs Ragazzo Solo, Ragazza Sola by David Bowie, Sing for Absolution by Muse and Boys Don’t Cry by The Cure. The soundtrack will be released on October 30, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips from all tracks on the album can be checked out after the jump. Me and You starring Jacopo Olmo Antinori, Tea Falco, Sonia Bergamasco, Veronica Lazar, Tommaso Ragno and Pippo Delbono follows two troubled siblings who are grappling with the weight of their family demons. The latest film from the Academy Award-winning director (The Last EmperorLast Tango in Paris) premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and will be released in Italy on October 25, 2012. ‘Lincoln’ Soundtrack Preview

JWFan.Net has posted a soundtrack preview for Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln. The music is composed and conducted by John Williams and performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chicago Symphony Chorus. As previously reported, the soundtrack will be released on November 6, 2012 by Sony Classical and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Lincoln starring Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln, Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Hal Holbrook, John Hawkes, David Strathairn, James Spader, Tim Blake Nelson, Jeremy Strong, Bruce McGill and Joseph Crosmarks marks Williams’ 26th collaboration with Spielberg. Two new movies are opening in wide release this week:

Expected to top the weekend box office is the found footage horror film Paranormal Activity 4 directed by Henry Joost & Ariel Schulman, produced by Jason Blum & Oren Peli and starring Kathryn Newton, Matt Shively, Aiden Lovekamp, Brady Allen, Stephen Dunham, Alexondra Lee and Katie Featherston. As the previous three movies in the series, Paranormal Activity 4 doesn’t feature an original score and no soundtrack has been released. The sequel follows a suburban family who witness strange events in their neighborhood when a woman and a mysterious child move in. To find out more about the film, visit the official movie website.

Also opening wide is the thriller Alex Cross directed by Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious) and starring Tyler Perry, Matthew Fox, Edward Burns, Rachel Nichols and Jean Reno. The film’s score is composed by John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Iron Man 2). August Recordings will release a soundtrack album for the British drama Private Peaceful. The album features the film’s original score written by Academy Award-winning composer Rachel Portman (Emma, The Cider House Rules, Chocolat). The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 22, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips and the full track list after the jump. Private Peaceful directed by Pat O’Connor and starring Jack O’Connell, George Mackay, Alexander Roach, Richard Griffiths and Frances de la Tour is set in the fields of Devon and the WWI battlefields of Flanders tells the story of two brothers who fall in love with the same girl.
