A number of new TV shows will be premiering this week:

carriediariesPremiering tomorrow is The CW drama The Carrie Diaries based on based on the bestselling novel by Candace Bushnell and starring AnnaSophia Robb, Austin Butler, Ellen Wong, Katie Findlay, Stefania Owen, Brendan Dooling, Chloe Bridges, Freema Agyeman and Matt Letscher. The prequel to the HBO hit show Sex And The City is executive produced by Amy B. Harris, Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, Len Goldstein, Candace Bushnell, Miguel Arteta who also directed the pilot episode. The show’s score is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (21 Jump Street, Hotel Transylvania). The series will be airing every Monday night on The CW. existsNima Fakhrara has recently scored the horror film Exists. The film is directed by Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project) and follows a group of twenty-somethings who take a trip to a cabin deep in the wooded wilderness and are hunted by a Bigfoot-like beast. Sanchez has co-written the screenplay with Jamie Nash. Dora Madison Burge, Samuel Davis, Roger Edwards, Chris Osborn and Denise Williamson are starring in the movie, which is produced by Robin Cowie & Gregg Hale (The Blair Witch Project) and Andy Jenkins for Haxan Films and Jane Fleming & Mark Ordesky (The Frozen Ground) for Amber Entertainment. The project marks Fakhrara’s first collaboration with Sanchez. The composer’s previous credits include The Courier starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan & Mickey Rourke and the thriller Removal starring Billy Burke. Read the rest of this entry »

Mychael Danna has received his first Golden Globe Award for his score for Ang Lee’s Life of Pi. The composer has also just received an Academy Award nomination for both score and the song Pi’s Lullaby earlier this week. Check out Danna’s acceptance speech after the jump. Chris Bacon to Score ‘Bates Motel’

batesmotelChris Bacon has been hired to score A&E Network’s upcoming TV series Bates Motel. The show is a contemporary prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s classic movie Psycho and chronicles how Norman Bates’ psyche unravels through his teenage years. Freddie Highmore stars as Norman Bates and Vera Farmiga plays his mother Norma. Max Thieriot, Olivia Cooke, Nicola Peltz, Nestor Carbonell  and Mike Vogel are co-starring. Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Kerry Ehrin (Friday Night Lights) are executive producing the Universal Television production. Bates Motel is set to premiere on March 18, 2013 on A&E. Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:

gangstersquadOpening in most theaters is the action drama Gangster Squad directed by Ruben Fleischer and starring Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi and Michael Pena. The film’s score is composed by Steve Jablonsky (Transformers, Battleship). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring songs Jonny Mercer & The Pied Pipers, Imelda May, Pee Wee King, Kitty Daisy & Lewis, Peggy Lee, Delta Rae and St. Vincent. ‘Justified’ Soundtrack Released

justifiedMadison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album for the FX hit drama Justified. The album features the show’s title song Long Hard Times to Come by Gangstagrass feat. T.O.N.E-z, as well as other songs from the series by artists including Dave Alvin, Beverley Staunton, Lynda Kay, Robert J. Walsh and Ryan Kickland. The soundtrack is now available as an On-Demand CD-R on Amazon and digitally on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips. Justified starring Timothy Olyphant, Nick Searcy, Joelle Carter, Jacob Pitts, Erica Tazel, Natalie Zea and Walton Goggins just returned for a fourth season this past Tuesday. John Williams was honored with the Critics’ Choice Movie Award in the Best Score category for his music for Steven Spielberg’s historical drama Lincoln at tonight’s 18th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. The other composers nominated in the Best Score category were Alexandre Desplat (Argo, Moonrise Kingdom), Mychael Danna (Life of Pi) and Jonny Greenwood (The Master). Williams is also nominated for a Golden Globe, a BAFTA Award and has just received his 49th Academy Award nomination earlier today. stokerThe details of the soundtrack album for the psychological thriller Stoker have been revealed. The soundtrack features the film’s original score composed by Clint Mansell (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream). Also included is the original song Becomes the Color by Emily Wells, an original piano piece by composed by Philip Glass, as well as Nancy Sinatra’s & Lee Hazelwood’s Summer Wine. The soundtrack will be released on February 26, 2013. Stoker directed by Park Chan-wook and starring Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode, Dermot Mulroney and Jacki Weaver centers on a teenage girl who must deal with the unexpected appearance of a mysterious uncle following the death of her father. broken-city-soundtrackMetropolis Movie Music will release a soundtrack album for Allen Hughes’ crime thriller Broken City. The album features the film’s original score composed by Atticus Ross (The Social Network), Claudia Sarne and Leopold Ross who previously worked with the director on The Book of Eli and the TV series Touching Evil. The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 15, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips will be added to this article within the next week. Broken City stars Mark Wahlberg as a Brooklyn detective who is hired by a powerful politician, played by Russell Crowe, to identify his wife’s lover, who is subsequently found and killed. Catherine Zeta-Jones, Kyle Chandler, Barry Pepper, Natalie Martinez, Jeffrey Wright, Justin Chambers, James Ransone and Griffin Dunne are co-starring.
