The album features selections of the original score from the show’s first season composed by Trevor Morris (The Tudors, Immortals, Olympus Has Fallen). Also included is the show’s opening credits theme If I Had a Heart by Fever Ray. The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 2, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. devious-maidsPremiering tonight is the new Lifetime drama Devious Maids created by Marc Cherry (Desperate Housewives) and starring Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, Edy Ganem, Judy Reyes, Brett Cullen, Brianna Brown, Drew Van Acker and Susan Lucci. The show’s score is composed by Edward Shearmur (The Count of Monte Cristo, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow). The drama follows five maids with ambition and dreams of their own while working for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills. Devious Maids will air every Sunday night on Lifetime. turbo-deluxeRelativity Music Group will release a deluxe edition of the soundtrack album for Dreamworks Animation’s Turbo. The album features eleven additional tracks from the film’s original score composed by Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class, Wreck-It-Ralph) in addition to the content of the regular edition that was announced last week. The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 16, 2013. Turbo is directed by David Soren and features a voice cast including Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Richard Jenkins, Bill Hader Luis Guzmán, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith, Snoop Dogg and Samuel L. Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:

monsters-universityOpening in most theaters is Pixar’s animated film sequel Monsters University directed by Dan Scanion and featuring the voice talent of Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi Jennifer Tilly, Frank Oz, John Ratzenberger and Kelsey Grammer. The film’s music is composed by Randy Newman who previously scored 2001’s Monsters, Inc. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as track from Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso of the electronic music trio Swedish House Mafia. world-war-zAlso opening wide is the zombie thriller World War Z directed by Marc Forster and starring Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale and Matthew Fox. The film’s original score is composed by Marco Beltrami (Scream, 3:10 to Yuma). The thriller also features additional music by Matthew Bellamy performed by Muse. Warner Bros. ascap-film-and-tv-awardsLast night, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) held its annual Film & Television Music Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Patrick Doyle was honored with the Henry Mancini Award in recognition of his outstanding achievements and contributions to the world of film and television music. The award was presented to Doyle by ASCAP President and Chairman Paul Williams and President of Feature Post Production at 20th Century Fox Ted Gagliano following a video tribute featuring clips of many of Doyle’s best known scores including Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Gosford Park, Dead Again, Sense and Sensibility, Hamlet, Thor, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Indochine and A Little Princess. harry-gregson-williamsHarry Gregson-Williams has been hired to score the upcoming thriller The Equalizer. The film is directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Olympus Has Fallen, King Arthur) and stars Denzel Washington, Chloë Grace Moretz, Melissa Leo, David Meunier, Haley Bennett and Marton Csokas. The movie is based on the 1980s television show created by Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim and follows a retired covert operative who is working at a Home Depot when one of his acts of kindness towards a prostitute gets him embroiled with the Russian mob. Richard Wenk (The Expendables 2, 16 Blocks) wrote the screenplay and Todd Black & Jason Blumenthal (The Pursuit of Happyness, Knowing) and Steve Tisch (Forrest Gump) are producing the project for Escape Artists, alongside Alex Siskin, Mace Neufeld, Tony Eldridge and original series creator Michael Sloan. Gregson-Williams has previously written the music for Fuqua’s feature directorial debut The Replacement Killers and has also scored Tony Scott’s The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 for Escape Artists. the-congressMilan Records will release a soundtrack album for Ari Folman’s hybrid live-action/animated film The Congress. The album features the movie’s original score composed by Max Richter (Disconnect) who previously scored the director’s Academy Award-nominated film Waltz With Bashir. The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 2, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Congress is adapted for the screen and directed by Folman and stars Robin Wright, Jon Hamm, Paul Giamatti and Harvey Keitel. The movie is based on the 1971 novel The Futurological Congress by Stanislaw Lem and follows an aging, out-of-work actress, portrayed by Wright as an alternate reality version of herself. The film recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and has been picked up by Drafthouse Films for a theatrical and VOD release in the US in 2014. Read the rest of this entry »

james-newton-howardJames Newton Howard is currently scoring the upcoming historical drama Parkland. The film is written and directed by Peter Landesman and stars Zac Efron, Marcia Gay Harden, Paul Giamatti, Billy Bob Thornton, Jeremy Strong, Jacki Weaver, Jackie Earle Haley, Colin Hanks and Ron Livingston. The film chronicles the events leading up to President John F. Kennedy’s assassination and is named for the Parkland Memorial Hospital where JFK was rushed on Nov. 22, 1963. Playtone’s Tom Hanks & Gary Goetzman (My Big Fat Greek WeddingThe Polar Express) and Exclusive Media’s Nigel Sinclair & Guy East (Let Me InEnd of Watch) are producing the project with Bill Paxton. Newton Howard has previously scored Hanks’ directorial feature Larry Crowne and also has also written the music for Playtone’s Charlie Wilson’s War. The album features selections from the score of the show composed by David CarbonaraMad Men On the Rocks will be released overseas on August 5, 2013. No word yet on a domestic release. Lionsgate Records has previously released a number of soundtracks featuring the composer’s score from the early seasons. Click here to download the first score album. Mad Men is created by Matthew Weiner and stars Jon Hamm, January Jones, Elisabeth Moss, Vincent Kartheiser, Christina Hendricks and John Slattery.
