Intrada Records has announced the details of a new soundtrack album for ABC’s hit series Once Upon a Time. The album features highlights from the original score from the show’s second season composed by Mark Isham (Crash, A River Runs Through It, 42). The soundtrack is now available to order on Intrada’s official website, where you can also listen to audio clips. The label has previously released a soundtrack featuring selections of Isham’s score for the first season. Once Upon a Time is created by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz and stars Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, Robert Carlyle, Lana Parrilla and Josh Dallas. Randy Edelman has been tapped to score the upcoming family comedy A Friggin’ Christmas Miracle. The film is directed by Tristram Shapeero (Community) and stars Joel McHale, Lauren Graham, Robin Williams, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Clark Duke and Candice Bergen. The movie follows a family man who takes his wifeand son to visit his family for Christmas. When they arrive, he realizes he’s left his son’s presents at home. Phil Johnston (Cedar Rapids, Wreck-It-Ralph) has written the screenplay. Tom Rice (The Way Way Back) is producing the project for Sycamore Pictures, alongside Joe and Anthony Russo (You, Me and Dupree, Captain America: The Winter Soldier). Read the rest of this entry »

WaterTower Music will release a soundtrack album for the CW superhero series Arrow. The album features selections from the first season’s original score composed by Blake Neely (The Pacific, The Mentalist, Everwood). The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 17, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. Arrow is a modern retelling of the story of the DC Comics character Green Arrow and stars Stephen Amell as the vigilante superhero who fights crime under his secret identity as Oliver Queen, a wealthy playboy and billionaire industrialist-turned-outspoken politician in Star City. Colin Donnell, Katie Cassidy, David Ramsey, Willa Holland, Susanna Thompson and Paul Blackthorne are co-starring in the show executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg and David Nutter. ‘Blackfish’ Soundtrack Released

Off the Grid Music has released a soundtrack album for the documentary Blackfish. The album features the film’s original score composed by Jeff Beal (House of Cards, Rome, Appaloosa, Monk). The soundtrack is now available to download on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips. Blackfish is directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite and traces a 39 year history of killer whales in captivity leading up to a 2010 incident where an experienced Sea World trainer was killed by a 12,000 lb. whale. Premiering tonight is the new AMC drama Low Winter Sun created by Chris Mundy and starring Mark Strong, Lennie James, Erika Alexander, James Ransone, David Costabile, Sprague Grayden, Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Athena Karkanis. The show’s original score is composed by Tyler Bates (Dawn of the Dead, 300, Californication). The composer has also co-written the main titles song Hustlin’ In The Motor City with Nan Vernon, Chris Mundy and Bettye LaVette who also performs the song. ‘Salinger’ Soundtrack Details

Decca Records will release a soundtrack album for the documentary Salinger. The album features the film’s original music composed by Lorne Balfe (Megamind, Restless, The Bible). The soundtrack will be released physically on September 17, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. Salinger is directed by Shane Salerno and chronicles the life of author JD Salinger (Catcher in the Rye) who died at age 91 in 2010. The movie features interviews with over 150 subjects, including Salinger’s friends, colleagues and members of his inner circle who have never spoken on the record before, as well as celebrities including Philip Seymour Hoffman, Edward Norton, John Cusack, Danny DeVito, John Guare, Martin Sheen, David Milch and Robert Towne. Jan A.P. Kaczmarek to Score ‘Später im Sommer’

Academy Award-winning composer Jan A.P. Kaczmarek revealed in a recent interview with Hitfix that he is set to score the upcoming German drama Später im Sommer. The film is written and directed by Feo Aladag (When We Leave) and centers on the friendship between a German soldier and an Afghan translator who are fighting side by side in Afghanistan. Ronald Zehrfeld, Felix Kramer, Roman Rien, Pit Bukowski, Tobais Schönenberg and Burghart Klaussner are starring in the movie, which is produced by Independent Artists Filmproduktion, ZDF, ARTE and Geißendörfer Film- und Fernsehproduktion. Lakeshore Records has announced a second soundtrack album for the indie coming-of-age drama The Spectacular Now. The album features the songs featured in the film by artists including Faron Young, Kutt the Check, Snake! Snake! Snakes!, Washed Out, Tennessee River Crooks, Just Water, Saturday Looks Good To Me and Norma Jenkins. The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 20, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out after the jump. The label has previously released a soundtrack featuring the composer Rob Simonsen’s score for the film (click here for the details, including audio clips). The Spectacular Now is directed by James Ponsoldt and stars Shailene Woodley, Miles Teller, Brie Larson, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Kyle Chandler. Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated feature Planes directed by Klay Hall and featuring a voice cast including Dane Cook, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Cedric the Entertainer, Val Kilmer, John Cleese, Stacy Keach, Brad Garrett and Teri Hatcher. The film’s original music is composed by Mark Mancina (Tarzan, Speed Twister). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as original songs by Mark Holman, Chris Classic & Alana D and Jon Stevens of The Dead Daisies. Also opening in wide release is the sci-fi action film Elysium written and directed by Neil Blomkamp and starring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Wagner Moura, Alice Braga, William Fichtner, Diego Luna and Carly Pope. The film’s original score is composed by Ryan Amon. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music.
