Opening nationwide this holiday weekend after a 5-day exclusive engagement at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre is Disney’s animated feature Frozen directed by Jennifer Lee & Chris Buck and featuring the voice talent of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad, Santino Fontana, Alan Tudyk and Ciarán Hinds. Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez have written the film’s original songs and Christophe Beck (The Muppets, The Hangover) has composed the original score. Also opening wide is the action thriller Homefront directed by Gary Fleder and starring Jason Statham, James Franco, Winona Ryder, Frank Grillo, Kate Bosworth and Rachelle Lefevre. The film’s original score is composed by Mark Isham (Crash, Once Upon a Time) who has previously collaborated with the director several times, including on such films as Kiss the Girls, Don’t Say a Word and The Express. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. Homefront centers on a former drug enforcement agent and family man who moves off the grid with his daughter to a seemingly quiet bayou backwater to escape his troubled past. Erran Baron Cohen has signed on to score the upcoming comedy drama Just Before I Go. The film marks the directorial debut of actress Courteney Cox (Friends, Scream) and stars Seann William Scott, Kate Walsh, Olivia Thirlby, Garret Dillahunt and Kyle Gallner. The movie follows a depressed man who heads back to his hometown to right some wrongs before committing suicide. David Flebotte (Boardwalk Empire, Desperate Housewives, Will & Grace) has written the screenplay. Cox is also producing the project for her Coquette Productions company with David Arquette and Thea Mann (Cougar Town), alongside Gabriel Cowan & John Suits (Bad Milo, Static) of New Artists Alliance.
La-La Land Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for the 1984 comedy classic Police Academy directed by Hugh Wilson and starring Steve Guttenberg, George Gaynes, Kim Cattrall and G.W. Bailey. The album features the complete score from the film composed by Robert Folk (Ace Ventura 2: When Nature Calls, Tremors, Nothing to Lose). Also included as a bonus track is El Bimbo performed by Jean-Marc Dompierre and His Orchestra and used in the movie for the film’s Blue Oyster Bar. The soundtrack for the Warner Bros. Varese Sarabande Records will release the soundtrack album for Kenneth Branagh’s action thriller Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. The album features the film’s original score composed by Patrick Doyle (Thor, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) who regularly works with the director. Mark Mancina is set to return to compose the score for Disney’s Planes: Fire & Rescue. The sequel to this summer’s animated feature Planes is directed by Bobs Gannaway (Secret of the Wings, Stitch! The Movie) and features a crew of elite firefighting aircraft devoted to protecting historic Piston Peak National Park from a raging wildfire. Dane Cook will once again be voicing the film’s main character of Dusty. He is joined by Julie Bowen who will appear as the voice of the new character Lil’ Dipper. Republic Records has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the comedy sequel Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. The album features the songs featured in the film performed by the movie’s characters such as Ron Burgundy, Brian Fantana, Brick Tamland and Champ Kind, including a cover version of Christopher Cross’s Ride Like The Wind by Burgundy and Robin Thicke, as well as original songs composed by the film’s composers Andrew Feltenstein and John Nau. Also featured are a number of classic songs by artists including Neil Diamond, Hot Chocolate and Kenny Loggins. Relativity Music Group will release a soundtrack album for the indie drama Kill Your Darlings. The album features the film’s original score composed by Nico Muhly (The Reader, Margaret, Joshua). Also included are three tracks featured in the film by vocalist Catherine Russell accompanied by Grammy winner Vince Giordano and The Nighthawks.
