james-hornerThe London Philharmonic Orchestra has announced that a new concert piece composed by Academy Award-winning film composer James Horner (TitanicAvatar, BraveheartA Beautiful Mind) will premiere at the Royal Festival Hall in London on March 27, 2015. The composer’s “new work for four horns” will be performed by musicians David Pyatt, John Ryan, James Thatcher and Richard Watkins and will be conducted by Jaime Martín. Lorne Balfe to Score ‘Captive’

lornebalfeLorne Balfe has signed on to score the upcoming thriller Captive. The film is directed by Jerry Jameson and stars David Oyelowo, Kate Mara, Leonor Varela and Mimi Rogers. The movie centers on the true story of Brian Nichols who broke out of a courthouse jail in 2005 and shot dead the judge assigned to his case as well as a court reporter, sheriff’s deputy and FBI officer. Brian Bird (Not Easily Broken) and Reinhard Denke have written the screenplay based on Ashley Smith’s bestselling book An Unlikely Angel.  Read the rest of this entry »

riz-ortolaniRiz Ortolani has passed away at age 87. The Italian composer scored around 200 films both in home country, as well as the United States, England and Germany. He received two Academy Awards for the original songs More from 1962’s Mondo cane and Till Love Touches Your Life from the 1970 western Madron. He was also Golden Globe-nominated for his Madron song, as well as the title song from Buena Sera, Mrs. Campbell and his score for the Ingrid Bergman- and Shirley MacLaine-starring 1964 comedy The Yellow Rolls-Royce. He won a Golden Globe for the song Forget Domani from the same film. His score for Mondo cane also earned him a Grammy nomination. His other film scoring credits include 1964’s The 7th Dawn starring William Holden, the 1966 British comedy The Spy with the Cold Nose and the 1965 western The Glory Guys. The movie is written and directed by Andrea di Stefano and stars Josh Hutcherson as a young American surfer who takes a trip to Colombia and falls in love with a beautiful local girl. divergentEllie Goulding has announced that she has recorded the original song Beating Heart for the film adaptation of the young adult novel Divergent. She also announced on ABC’s Good Morning America today that she will be the “musical voice” of Shailene Woodley’s character Tris and that her voice will be featured on the instrumental score. Junkie XL is the composer on the film and Hans Zimmer serves as the executive score producer. Alexandre Azaria and Marc Bell are composing the music for the upcoming action thriller Brick Mansions. The film is directed by Camille Delamarre and is an English language remake of Pierre Morel’s 2004 film District B13. The movie stars Paul Walker as an undercover cop who is tasked with going into a tenement named Brick Mansions in order to disarm a neutron bomb that is ticking down. RZA, David Belle and Robert Maillet are co-starring.
