‘The Giver’ Soundtrack Details

imageInterscope Records will release a soundtrack album for the sci-fi drama The Giver. The album features the original song Ordinary Human by OneRepublic, as well as tracks by such artists as Aloe Blacc, Capital Cities, Tori Kelly, Jake Bugg, Bruno Major, Rixton, Sheppard & more. The soundtrack will be released on August 5, 2014 and is now abvailable for pre-order on Amazon. The Giver is directed by Phillip Noyce and stars Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Brenton Thwaites, Alexander Skarsgard, Taylor Swift, Cameron Monaghan, Odeya Rush, Emma Tremblay and Katie Holmes. The movie based on the bestselling novel by Lois Lowry features an original score by Marco Beltrami and will be released nationwide on August 15, 2014 by the Weinstein Company. 12-monkeysExecutive producer Terry Matalas has announced on Twitter that Trevor Rabin is composing the music for the upcoming Syfy original series 12 Monkeys. The show is based on the 1995 feature directed by Terry Gilliam and stars Aaron Standford, Amanda Schull, Noah Bean and Kirk Acevedo. The series follows a time traveler from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race. Matalas is also executive producing the Universal Cable production with Travis Fickett (Nikita), Natalie Chaidez and Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Richard Suckle (American HustleThe International). the-lotteryPremiering tonight is the new Lifetime original series The Lottery created by Timothy J. Sexton (Children of Men) and starring Marley Shelton, Michael Graziadei, David Alpay, Athena Karkanis, Yul Vasquez, Shelley Conn and Martin Donovan. The show’s original music is composed by Jeff Cardoni (Just FriendsCSI: MiamiStep Up: All In). The Lottery is set 25 years in the future when the human race faces extinction and when women stop having children. When a number of fertilized embryos are discovered, a national lottery is setup to help decide the surrogates. hannibalLakeshore Records will release a number of soundtrack albums for the critically acclaimed NBC series Hannibal. The albums will feature the show’s original music composed by Brian Reitzell (30 Days of NightFriday Night LightsStranger Than FictionBoss). Music from both seasons of the series will be featured on the albums, which are set to be released on September 2, 2014. comic-conThe line-up for this year’s The Character of Music panel at Comic-Con in San Diego has been announced. A number of composers and producers will discuss the dynamics of music in film and television. Panelists include composer Chris Bacon and producer Christopher Nelson (Bates Motel), composer Paul Haslinger and Halt and Catch Fire creator/executive producer Christopher C. Rogers and Danny Jacob and Phineas & Ferb creators/executive producers Dan Povenmire & Jeff “Swampy” Marsh. The participants will discuss their working relationship, how music plays a character in their stories and the intense process of scoring their projects. BMI Director, Film/TV Relations Anne Cecere will serve as panel moderator. The event will take place on Friday, July 25 at 2:00pm in Room 32AB of the San Diego Convention Center.

x-filesLa-La Land Records will release an expanded and remastered soundtrack album for the 1998 feature The X-Files: Fight the Future written by Chris Carter & Frank Spotnitz, directed by Rob Bowman and starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. The album features the film’s original music composed by Mark Snow (MillenniumBlue Bloods, Elementary) who also scored the complete The X-Files series. The soundtrack will be released on July 29, 2014 and will be available on the label’s official website. Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

planesOpening in most theaters is the animated sequel Planes: Fire & Rescue directed by Bobs Gannaway and featuring the voices of Dane Cook, Julie Bowen, Stacy Keach, Brad Garrett, Danny Mann, Teri Hatcher and Ed Harris. Mark Mancina (TarzanTwister, Brother Bear, Speed) who previously scored last year’s original film has composed the film’s original score. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as the original song Still I Fly performed by Spencer Lee and three songs by Brad Paisley. purge-anarchyAlso opening wide is the thriller sequel The Purge: Anarchy written and directed by James DeMonaco and starring Zach Gilford, Michael Williams, Kiele Sanchez, Frank Grillo and Carmen Ejogoro. The film’s original music is composed by Nathan Whitehead who also scored last year’s original film. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. expendables-3La-La Land Records will release a soundtrack album for the action sequel The Expendables 3. The album features the film’s original music composed by Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3Thor: The Dark WorldFast & FuriousNow You See Me) who previously scored the first two installments in the series. The soundtrack will be released physically on August 26, 2014 and will be available for pre-order here. The digital release is expected to come out earlier in August through Lionsgate Records, but details have yet to be confirmed. marco-beltramiMarco Beltrami has signed on to score the upcoming drama True Story. The film is directed by Rupert Goold and stars Jonah Hill, James Franco, Felicity Jones, Ethan Suplee and Gretchen Mol. The movie is based on journalist Michael Finkel’s memoirs about the relationship between Finkel and Christian Longo, a Most Wanted List murderer who for years lived outside the U.S. under Finkel’s name. David Kajganich (The Invasion) has written the screenplay. Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner & Jeremy Kleiner (12 Years a SlaveThe Tree of LifeKilling Them Softly) are producing the Plan B Entertainment and New Regency Pictures production. Charles Bernstein Rejoins Academy Board

oscarsThe Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that composer Charles Bernstein has rejoined the Academy’s Board of Governors after a hiatus. He joins composers Charles Fox and Arthur Hamilton as a governor for the Academy’s music branch. The Academy’s 17 branches are represented by three governors, who may serve up to three consecutive three-year terms. Terms are staggered so that each branch elects or reelects one governor each year. For the full list of elected governors, click here.
