It was announced this evening at Comic-Con that Bear McCreary is scoring the upcoming NBC drama Constantine. The show is developed by Daniel Cerone (The Mentalist, Dexter) & David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Rises) and stars Matt Ryan, Harold Perrineau and Charles Halford. The drama is based on the comic book series Hellblazer from DC Comics and follows seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine who is armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and a wickedly naughty wit. Cerone and Goyer are also producing the project for Bonanza Productions and Warner Bros. Television. McCreary has previously collaborated with Goyer on the Starz original series Da Vinci’s Demons. Neil Marshall (The Descent, Centurion) has directed the pilot episode. Constantine is set to premiere on October 24, 2014 and will air every Friday night on NBC. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Penny Dreadful’ Soundtrack Details

Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the first soundtrack album for the Showtime original series Penny Dreadful. The album features selections from the original score of the first season of the show composed, orchestrated and conducted by Abel Korzeniowski (A Single Man, Romeo & Juliet, W.E.). The soundtrack will be released on August 19, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Penny Dreadful is created by John Logan and stars Eva Green, Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton, Rory Kinnear, Reeve Carney, Harry Treadaway, Billie Piper and Danny Sapani. Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the action adventure Hercules directed by Brett Ratner and starring Dwayne Johnson, Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan and John Hurt. The film’s original music is composed by Fernando Velazquez (The Impossible, The Orphanage, Devil). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music digitally earlier this week. A CD release is set for next month. Also opening wide is the sci-fi thriller Lucy directed by Luc Besson and starring Scarlett Johansson, Morgan Freeman and Analeigh Tipton. Besson’s regular musical collaborator Eric Serra (The Professional, The Fifth Element) has composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. A different soundtrack, which also features the original song Sister Rust performed by Blur frontman Damon Albarn and tracks by The Crystal Method and Raury will be released overseas next month. Chris Westlake to Score Chris Evans’ ‘Before We Go’

Chris Westlake has been hired to score the upcoming romance Before We Go. The film marks the directorial debut of Chris Evans who also stars in the film alongside Alice Eve. The movie, which was originally entitled 1:30 Train, is set in Manhattan and follows two strangers after their serendipitous meeting in Grand Central who form an unlikely bond and the conflicts in their own lives become the basis for exploration into each other and themselves. Ron Bass (Rain Man, Entrapment), Jen Smolka, Chris Shafer and Paul Vicknair have written the screenplay. Evans is also producing the project with McG (Charlie’s Angels, Terminator: Salvation), Mary Viola, Mark Kassen (Puncture), William J. Immerman, Karen & Howard Baldwin (Ray, Sahara). Hans Zimmer to Return for ‘Kung Fu Panda 3’

According to Hans-Zimmer.com, Hans Zimmer will return to score DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming sequel Kung Fu Panda 3. The film is directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson who previously helmed the second part in the series and features the voice talent of Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Bryan Cranston, Mads Mikkelsen and Rebel Wilson. The movie continues the journey of Po as he is mastering the art of Kung Fu and faces two threats: one supernatural and the other a little closer to home. Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger (Monsters vs. Aliens) who penned the previous two movies have written the screenplay. The movie follows a Manhattan writer who finds solace in her biweekly lessons with a Sikh driving instructor after her husband leaves her. Sarah Kernochan (Sommersby, Nine 1/2 Weeks) has written the screenplay based on Katha Pollitt’s 2002 essay for The New Yorker. Dana Friedman and Daniel Hammond are producing the Broad Green Pictures production. Academy Award winner Thelma Schoonmaker (The Departed, The Aviator, Raging Bull) serves as the film’s editor.
