Premiering on Friday, September 12, is the Syfy original series Z Nation created by Karl Schaefer and starring Harold Perrineau, Tom Everett Scott, DJ Qualls, Michael Welch, Kellita Smith and Anastasia Baranova. Jason Gallagher who is best known as a member of the rock band Leroy Justice is composing the show’s original score. Z Nation takes place there years after a zombie virus has gutted the country and follows a team of everyday heroes must transport the only known survivor of the plague from New York to California, where the last functioning viral lab waits for his blood. ‘Swelter’ Soundtrack Released

Treehouse Music has released a soundtrack album for the action thriller Swelter. The album features the film’s original music composed by Tree Adams (Californication, Perception, Sirens). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon. Audio clips are embedded after the jump. Swelter is directed by Keith Palmer and stars Jean-Claude Van Damme, Alfred Molina, Lennie James, Catalina Moreno and Freya Tingley. The movie follows four men who blast their way out of jail 10 years after robbing more than $100 million from the Luxor Casino in Las Vegas. They track down track down their former boss, only to find him working as a sheriff in a small town with no memory of his violent past. J-2 Music will release a soundtrack album for Adam Wingard’s thriller The Guest. The album features the songs from the film by artists including Stevie B, Love and Rockets, Annie, Survive, Mike Simonetti, Gatekeeper, Sisters of Mercy and Clan of Xymox. The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 16, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. Ludwig Göransson has been hired to score the upcoming Fox dramedy Red Band Society. The show is created by Margaret Nagle (Boardwalk Empire) based on the Spanish TV series Polseres vermelles and stars Octavia Spencer, Dave Annable, Griffin Gluck, Nolan Sotillo, Charlie Rowe and Brian Bradley. The coming-of-age comedy drama follows the daily lives of a group of teenagers living in a hospital’s pediatric ward who become unlikely friends. Steven Spielberg is producing the ABC Studios and Amblin Television production with Justin Falvey & Darryl Frank (The Americans, Falling Skies, Under the Dome) and Sergio Aguero (No Reservations, Quarantine). The only movie opening nationwide this weekend is the music-themed drama The Identical directed by Dustin Marcellino and starring Erin Cottrell, Amanda Crew, Brian Geraghty, Seth Green, Ashley Judd, Joe Pantoliano, Blake Rayne, and Ray Liotta. Klaus Badelt (Pirates of the Caribbean, Constantine, Rescue Dawn) and Christopher Carmichael have composed the film’s original score. City of Peace Media and Capitol Christian Distribution have released a soundtrack album featuring five tracks from the composers’ score, as well as the songs from the film performed by lead actor Blake Rayne, The Morph Kings and Darcey & Mo. Opening in limited release is the indie comedy drama Kelly & Cal directed by Jen McGowan and starring Juliette Lewis, Cybill Shepherd and Jonny Weston. The film’s original music is composed by Toby Chu (Covert Affairs, Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return). No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie centers on the relationship between a suburban-trapped mother and a wheelchair-bound young man who brings out her former self. The dramedy premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and was picked up by IFC Films for domestic distribution. Geoff Zanelli is attached to score the upcoming fantasy adventure sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The film will be directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki). Johnny Depp is set to return as Captain Jack Sparrow. No other casting or plot details have been announced yet. Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal, Rush Hour 2) has been hired to write the screenplay. Jerry Bruckheimer (The Rock, National Treasure, Beverly Hills Cop, Armageddon) returns as a producer. Christopher Lennertz to Score Marvel’s ‘Agent Carter’ TV Series

Christopher Lennertz has officially signed on to score Marvel Television’s upcoming series Agent Carter. The show is created by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Chronicles of Narnia) and stars Hayley Atwell, Dominic Cooper, Enver Gjokaj and Chad Michael Murray. The drama is set in 1946 and follows Peggy Carter as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad and must balance doing administrative work for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve) and going on secret missions for Howard Stark. The series is based on the Marvel One-Shot short film of the same title, for which Lennertz has composed the music in 2013. Marvel’s Kevin Feige (The Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor) is executive producing the project with Markus & McFeely, Tara Butters & Michele Fazekas (Resurrection, Reaper), Louis D’Esposito and Jeph Loeb. Brian Tyler Creates New Music for ESPN’s NFL Studio Shows

Brian Tyler has composed new theme music for ESPN’s NFL studio shows. The composer has written four original scores for ESPN-show-specific scores for three of the network’s NFL programs: Sunday NFL Countdown, NFL Live and NFL Insiders, as well as a general NFL Gridiron theme. The network has announced that Tyler’s music will be used within the respective shows and others, coming in and out of commercial breaks, in teases and as background music during highlight packages. Tyler’s work marks the first new original score for ESPN’s NFL shows since 1997.
