hobbit-five-armiesThe details of the soundtrack albums for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies have been revealed. The albums feature the film’s original music composed by Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Silence of the Lambs, Hugo, The Aviator). Also included is the end titles song The Last Goodbye performed by actor Billy Boyd and written by Boyd and screenwriters/producers Phillipa Boyens and Fran Walsh. The soundtrack will be released in two editions: a standard edition, as well as a deluxe edition with additional tracks. Both albums are set to be released on December 16, 2014. ian-fraserIan Fraser has passed away at age 81 this morning at his home in Los Angeles. The music director and arranger received a total of 32 Emmy Award nominations, more than any other musician in television history. He won the award 11 times, most recently in 1993 for his music direction for the 52nd Presidential Inaugural Gala. He received an Academy Award and Golden Globe nomination for adapting the song score for 1970’s Scrooge starring Albert Finney. His musical director credits include a number of Christmas in Washington TV specials, the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special, numerous TV Academy’s Hall of Fame ceremonies, the SAG 50th Anniversary Celebration, Julie Andrews: The Sound of Christmas and America Salutes Richard Rodgers. The film is directed by Gil Kenan (Monster House, City of Ember) and stars Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie Dewitt, Jared Harris, Kyle Catlett, Saxon Sharbino, Kennedi Clements and Jane Adams. The movie follows the Bowen family, whose life is suddenly disrupted after a supernatural force takes over their home and begins terrorizing them. David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole, Oz the Great and Powerful, Robots) has written the screenplay. The film marks the feature directorial debut of screenwriter Etan Cohen (Tropic ThunderMen in Black 3Idiocracy) and stars Will Ferrell, Kevin Hart, Alison Brie, Craig T. Nelson, Gary Owen and Jay Pharoah. The movie follows a rich, soft-handed investment bank manager who is sentenced to a maximum security prison and hires the streetwise guy who normally washes his car so he can learn how to survive his upcoming prison sentence. Jay Martel & Ian Roberts (Key and Peele) have written the screenplay with Cohen.
