Michael Giacchino confirmed on Twitter that he is set to compose the music for Star Trek Beyond. The film marks the composer’s third score in the series following his work on J.J. Abrams’ 2009 original film and 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness. The third installment is directed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious, Fast Five) and stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, John Cho and Anton Yelchin who reprise their roles from the previous films and are joined by Idris Elba, Bryan Cranston and Sofia Boutella. The film’s original music is composed by Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, The Smurfs, If I Stay, Beverly Hills Chihuahua). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie by artists including including The Turtles, The Kinks, The Who, Donovan and The Spencer Davis Group. Michael Giacchino Elected to Academy Music Branch Board

Michael Giacchino has been elected to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 2015–16 Board of Governors. He joins Charles Bernstein and Charles Fox who are the other two governors of the branch. It will mark Giacchino’s first term serving on the music branch board. The Academy’s 17 branches are each represented by three governors, who may serve up to three consecutive three-year terms. Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the first soundtrack album for the Syfy original series 12 Monkeys. The album features selections from the first season of the show’s original music composed by Trevor Rabin (Remember the Titans, National Treasure, Con Air, Armageddon) and Paul Linford. The soundtrack will be released on July 31, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. 12 Monkeys is based on Terry Gilliam’s 1995 movie of the same title and stars Aaron Standford, Amanda Schull, Noah Bean and Kirk Acevedo.
