Harald Kloser and Thomas Wander have been hired to score the upcoming sci-fi action adventure Independence Day: Resurgence. The film is directed by Roland Emmerich and stars Vivica A. Fox, Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, Bill Pullman, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Judd Hirsch, Sela Ward, William Fichtner and Charlotte Gainsbourg. The sequel revolves around the nations of Earth who have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet, which comes under attack by the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Shakira to Record Original Song for Disney’s ‘Zootopia’

Disney announced at the studios’ D23 expo event that Shakira is recording an original song for the Disney Animation Studios’ feature Zootopia. The song is entitled Try Everthing and will be featured in the movie directed by Byron Howard (Tangled) and Rich Moore (Wreck-it Ralph). Shakira will also be among the film’s voice cast, which also includes Jason Bateman and Ginnifer Goodwin. ‘One & Two’ Soundtrack Details

Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the supernatural thriller One & Two. The album features the film’s original music composed by Nathan Halpern (Marina Abramovic: The Artist Is Present, Rich Hill). The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 28, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. One & Two is directed by Andrew Droz Palermo and stars Kiernan Shipka, Timothée Chalamet, Grant Bowler and Elizabeth Reaser. Disney’s ‘Moana’ to Feature Music by Mark Mancina, Opetaia Foa’I & Lin-Manuel Miranda

The full musical team for Disney’s upcoming animated feature Moana was announced at this year’s D23 fan expo. As previously announced, Mark Mancina will be composing the score for the movie. The composer who previously scored the studio’s Tarzan, Brother Bear, as well as Planes and its sequel is collaborating with Te Vaka’s Opetaia Foa’I, a New Zealand guitarist, and Lin-Manuel Miranda who is best known for writing the Broadway musical In the Heights. Moana directed by John Musker & Ron Clements (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Princess and the Frog) is set in the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania and follows a spirited teenager who takes to the seas to find the long-lost island that can connect her to her ancestors. It was announced today at Disney’s D23 fan expo that Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez will be writing original music for Disney Toon Studios’ upcoming feature Gigantic. The film will be directed by Nathan Greno (Tangled) and produced by Dorothy McKim (Meet the Robinson). The movie is based on the Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale is set in Spain during the Age of Exploration and follows Jack as he discovers a world of giants hidden within the clouds. Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the biographical drama Straight Outta Compton directed by F. Gary Gray and starring O’Shea Jackson Jr. as Ice Cube, Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre, Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E, Aldis Hodge as MC Ren, Neil Brown, Jr. as DJ Yella and Paul Giamatti as N.W.A.’s manager Jerry Heller. The film’s original score is composed by Joseph Trapanese (Insurgent, Oblivion, Earth to Echo). Dr. Dre has released his first record in 16 years inspired by the movie last Friday. Sony Classical will release a soundtrack album for Robert Zemeckis’ drama The Walk. Alex Heffes has been tapped to score the upcoming Hulu event series 11/22/63. The show is based on Stephen King’s 2011 novel of the same title and stars James Franco, Sarah Gadon, Josh Duhamel, T.R. Knight, Daniel Webber, Chris Cooper, Cherry Jones, George MacKay, Lucy Fry, Jack Fulton and Leon Rippy. The 9-parter follows a high school English teacher who travels back in time to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, but his mission is threatened by Lee Harvey Oswald and his falling in love and the past itself. J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Trek, Super 8) and King are executive producing the Bad Robot and Warner Bros. ‘Outlander’ Vol. 2 Soundtrack Details

Madison Gate Records will release a new soundtrack album for the Starz original series Outlander. The album features more music from the show composed by Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Battlestar Galactica, Da Vinci’s Demons) who recently received an Emmy Award nomination for his work on the series. Also included is an extended version of the main titles song, The Skye Boat Song, performed by Raya Yarbrough. The Vol. 2 soundtrack will be released on September 25, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label has previously released the Vol. 1 soundtrack album earlier this year.
