BBC announced today that British composer and saxophonist (and leader of the jazz group SEED Ensemble) Cassie Kinoshi is set to score the upcoming BBC drama Open Water. The show is based on Caleb Azumah Nelson’s debut novel of the same title and stars Toheeb Jimoh, Dujonna Gift, Rhianna Dorris, Lamar Waves, Nadine Marshall, Henrietta Pearl Quartey, Sekou Diaby, Hope Ikpoku Jnr, Tara Tijani, Enva Lewis, Stevie Odu, Nash Nørgaard, Renee Bailey, Janina Elkin, Sherise Blackman, Jayden Fowora Knight, Matthew Dunster, Neve McDonnell, Javier Bonaparte, Beaux Bryant and Mo Sesa. The 8-parter explores the relationship between a man who works in retail while trying to develop a career as a photographer and a woman studying dance at university in Dublin. Nelson also serves as the project’s lead writer and director and is executive producing the series with Tally Garner (Boy A, Broken) for Mam Tor Productions, Matimba Kabalika for B-Side Productions, as well as Rebecca Ferguson (Doctor Who, Wolf) for the BBC. Open Water is currently shooting in Birmingham and London and will premiere in the UK on BBC One and the BBCiPlayer.
