Academy Announces 145 Original Scores in Oscar Race

academyThe Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that 145 scores from eligible feature-length motion pictures released in 2016 are in contention for nominations in the Original Score category for the 89th Academy Awards.

The eligible scores along with their composers are listed below, in alphabetical order by film title:

Fil Eisler to Score Marti Noxon’s ‘To the Bone’

fil-eislerFil Eisler has been hired to score the upcoming comedy To the Bone. The film marks the feature directorial debut of writer Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Fright Night, I Am Number Four) and stars Lily Collins, Keanu Reeves, Carrie Preston, Lili Taylor, Alex Sharp and Liana Liberato. The movie follows a 20-year old woman who is battling her severe anorexia and enters a group recovery home. Noxon also wrote the screenplay inspired by her own experiences with anorexia. Julie Lynn (Albert Nobbs, Mother and Child, Last Days in the Desert) and Bonnie Curtis (Minority Report, A.I. Artificial Intelligence) are producing the project for Mockingbird Pictures, alongside Karina Miller for Sparkhouse Media. Read the rest of this entry »

Academy Announces 91 Original Songs in Oscar Race

oscarsThe Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has announced the short list of 91 songs that are in contention for nominations in the Original Song category for the 89th Academy Awards.During the nominations process, all voting members of the Music Branch will receive a Reminder List of works submitted in the category and a compilation of the song clips.  Members will be asked to watch the clips and then vote in the order of their preference for not more than five achievements in the category.  The five achievements receiving the highest number of votes will become the nominations for final voting for the award. A maximum of two songs may be nominated from any one film. The nominations will be announced on January 24, 2017. Read the rest of this entry »

The film is written and directed by their brother Macon Blair (The Monkey’s Paw) and stars Melanie Lynskey, Elijah Wood, David Yow, Jane Levy and Devon Graye. The movie follows a a depressed woman who – after being burglarized – finds a new sense of purpose by tracking down the thieves, alongside her obnoxious neighbor. Also included is the movie’s original score composed by Jean-Claude Petit (Jean de Florette, Cyrano de Bergerac, The Horseman on the Roof). Mica LeviMica Levi (aka Micachu) is composing the music for the upcoming sci-fi dramedy Marjorie Prime. The film is written and directed by Michael Almereyda (Nadja, Experimenter, Hamlet) and stars Jon Hamm, Geena Davis, Lois Smith and Tim Robbins. The movie based on Jordan Harrison’s play is set in the near future in a time of artificial intelligence and follows a 86-year-old woman who has a handsome new companion who looks like her deceased husband and is programmed to feed the story of her life back to her. star-trek-beyondVarese Sarabande has announced a deluxe soundtrack edition for this year’s sci-fi adventure Star Trek Beyond. The album features the film’s expanded score composed by Michael Giacchino (Up, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Jurassic World, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Lost). The 2-CD set is limited to 5000 copies and is now available to order on the label’s official website. The label has also released the regular soundtrack for the movie earlier this year. Star Trek Beyond is directed by Justin Lin, produced by J.J.
