Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie and Andy Serkis. The film’s original music is composed by John Williams (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, E.T.). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Check out our previous news article for the full album details.
Also opening wide is the animated feature Ferdinand directed by Carlos Saldanha and featuring the voices of John Cena, Kate McKinnon, Gina Rodriguez, Anthony Anderson, Daveed Diggs, Gabriel Iglesias, Bobby Cannavale and David Tennant. John Powell (How to Train Your Dragon, The Bourne Identity, Shrek) has composed the film’s original score. Danny Mulhern has recently recorded his score for the upcoming drama What They Had. The film is written and directed by Elizabeth Chomko and stars Hilary Swank, Michael Shannon, Blythe Danner, Robert Forster, Taissa Farmiga and Josh Lucas. The movie follows a woman who returns home to Chicago at her brother’s urging to deal with her mother’s Alzheimer’s and her father’s reluctance to let go of their life together. Keith Kjarval (A Single Shot, Rudderless), Bill Holderman (A Walk in the Woods, The Company You Keep), Albert Berger (Little Miss Sunshine, Cold Mountain), Ron Yerxa (Nebraska, Election, Little Children), Alex Saks & Andrew Duncan (The Florida Project) and Tyler Jackson are producing the project.

Sony Masterworks will release a soundtrack album for the BBC mini-series Gunpowder. The album features the original music from the historical thriller composed by Academy Award nominee Hauschka (aka Volker Bertelmann) (Lion, In Dubious Battle, The Current War, The Boy). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, December 15. The download link will be added to this article within the next day. Gunpowder is created by Ronan Bennett & Daniel West and stars Kit Harington, Liv Tyler, Peter Mullan, Edward Holcroft, Shaun Dooley, Robert Emms, Derek Riddell and Mark Gatiss. The 3-parter follows British activist Guy Fawkes and a group of provincial English Catholics as they plan to blow up the House of Lords and kill King James I in the early 17th century.
Elliott Wheeler is scoring the upcoming romantic drama Every Day. The film is directed by Michael Sucsy (The Vow, Grey Gardens) and stars Angourie Rice, Maria Bello, Debby Ryan, Jacob Batalon, Justice Smith, Owen Teague, Lucas Jade Zumann and Colin Ford. The movie is based on David Levithan’s bestselling YA novel and revolves around a shy teenage girl who falls in love with an entity named A, who inhabits a new body of another teenage boy each day. Jesse Andrews (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) wrote the screenplay.
Epic Records and Alcon Sleeping Giant (ASG) Records will release the official soundtrack album for the comedy Father Figures. The album features the songs from the movie by artists including Zee Will, Neil Diamond, Lord Netty, John Hiatt, Jason Mraz, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Tim Myers & more. Also included is a track from the film’s original score composed by Rob Simonsen (Foxcatcher, (500) Days of Summer, Nerve, The Spectacular Now). Adrian Johnston is composing the music for the upcoming horror thriller The Strangers: Prey at Night. The film is directed by Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Other Side of the Door) and stars Christina Hendricks, Martin Henderson, Bailee Madison and Lewis Pullman. The movie is inspired by the 2008 feature The Strangers and follows a family that is staying in a secluded mobile home park for the night and is visited by three masked psychopaths. Bryan Bertino who helmed the original movie & Ben Ketai (The Forest, StartUp) wrote the screenplay.
