Variety is reporting that Flight of the Conchords member Bret McKenzie is writing the script and will compose the music for a new movie adaptation of the classic ABC special Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas. The movie produced by the Jim Henson Company, Pacific Electric Picture Company and Snoot Entertainment follows a poor otter family who risks everything for the chance to win the cash prize of a talent contest for Christmas. A soundtrack album has been released for Rooster Teeth’s animated series gen:LOCK. The album features the selections of the music from the show’s first season composed by David Levy (Red vs. Blue). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. gen:LOCK is created by Gray Haddock and features the voices of Michael B. Jordan, Dakota Fanning, Maisie Williams, Kōichi Yamadera, Golshifteh Farahani, Asia Kate Dillon and David Tennant. The series is set 50 years in the future, where an oppressive authoritarian force threatens to conquer the world and follows a team that is recruited to pilot a new form of weaponized neuroscience that powers devastating mecha. Dominic Lewis has composed the original score for the upcoming action comedy My Spy. The film is directed by Peter Segal (Get Smart, Anger Management, Second Act) and stars Dave Bautista, Kristen Schaal, Parisa Fitz-Henley, Chloe Coleman and Ken Jeong. The movie follows a hardened CIA operative who has been demoted and finds himself at the mercy of a precocious 9-year-old girl where he has been sent undercover begrudgingly to surveil her family. BMG has released a soundtrack album for Gavin Hood’s political thriller Official Secrets. The album features the film’s original music composed by Paul Hepker and Mark Kilian who have previously co-scored the director’s features Tsotsi, Rendition and Eye in the Sky. The soundtrack is now available to stream and download on Amazon Music, where you can also listen to audio clips. Official Secrets is co-written and directed by Hood and stars Keira Knightley, Ralph Fiennes, Matt Smith, Matthew Goode, Indira Varma and Rhys Ifans. The movie tells the true story of British Intelligence whistleblower Katharine Gun who, during the immediate run-up to the 2003 Iraq invasion, leaked a top-secret NSA memo exposing a joint U.S.-U.K. illegal spying operation against members of the UN Security Council. The film is written and directed by Nini Bull Robsahm and stars Iben Akerlie, Jonathan Harboe, Sophia Lie, Jakob Schøyen Andersen and Elias Munk. The movie is inspired by André Bjerke’s 1942 novel of the same name and follows a small group of friends who battle to survive in the middle of Norway’s forests and fjords. Milan Records/Sony Music Masterworks have announced a soundtrack album for the comedic thriller Spell. The album features the film’s original music composed by Fall Out Boy member Patrick Stump (Gnome Alone, Changeland). The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 1, 2019 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Stump also contributed a new ballad, Deep Blue Love, which is already available to download here. Spell is directed by Brendan Walter and stars Barak Hardley, Jackie Tohn, Magnús Jónsson and Birna Rún Eiríksdóttir. The movie follows an American illustrator who embarks on a journey across the isolated Icelandic countryside, only to become drawn into a supernatural world of ancient runes and secrets – unless it’s all in his head. Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the fantasy adventure Maleficent: Mistress of Evil directed by Joachim Rønning and starring Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sam Riley, Ed Skrein, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville. The film’s original music is composed Geoff Zanelli (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No TalesDisturbiaChristopher Robin). Also opening wide is the horror comedy Zombieland: Double Tap directed by Ruben Fleischer and starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, Rosario Dawson, Zoey Deutch and Luke Wilson. David Sardy (21End of WatchBrightPremium Rush) who has composed the music for the 2009 original movie has composed the sequel’s original score. Nicholas Britell was named Film Composer of the Year at the 19th World Soundtrack Awards, tonight’s closing event of the 46th Ghent Film Festival. The composer’s film scoring work over the last year includes Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk (for which he also earned an Academy Award nomination) and Adam McKay’s Vice. Hildur Guðnadóttir received her first World Soundtrack Award in the TV Composer of the Year category for her score for HBO’s Chernobyl, for which she recently also won her first Emmy Award.
