Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the fantasy adventure Maleficent: Mistress of Evil directed by Joachim Rønning and starring Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sam Riley, Ed Skrein, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville. The film’s original music is composed Geoff Zanelli (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No TalesDisturbiaChristopher Robin). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as an original song performed by Bebe Rexha. Click here for the full album details.

Also opening wide is the horror comedy Zombieland: Double Tap directed by Ruben Fleischer and starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, Rosario Dawson, Zoey Deutch and Luke Wilson. David Sardy (21End of WatchBrightPremium Rush) who has composed the music for the 2009 original movie has composed the sequel’s original score. Nicholas Britell was named Film Composer of the Year at the 19th World Soundtrack Awards, tonight’s closing event of the 46th Ghent Film Festival. The composer’s film scoring work over the last year includes Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk (for which he also earned an Academy Award nomination) and Adam McKay’s Vice. Hildur Guðnadóttir received her first World Soundtrack Award in the TV Composer of the Year category for her score for HBO’s Chernobyl, for which she recently also won her first Emmy Award. Michael Giacchino confirmed at tonight’s Settling the Score concert at Royal Albert Hall in London that he will be scoring the upcoming superhero movie The Batman. The film is directed by Matt Reeves and stars Robert Pattinson in the title role, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon. Dylan Clark (Oblivion, Bird Box) is producing the project. Giacchino has previously collaborated with Reeves on his last four features Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, War for the Planet of the Apes, Cloverfield and Let Me In. Read the rest of this entry »

Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the Netflix original movie Earthquake Bird. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Gone Girl, Waves, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Leopold Ross & Claudia Sarne (Triple 9, Broken City). The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 1 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Earthquake Bird is directed by Wash Westmoreland (Still Alice, Colette) and stars Alicia Vikander, Naoki Kobayashi and Riley Keough. The movie produced by Ridley Scott is set in 1989 Tokyo and follows an enigmatic expat haunted by a painful past who is suspected of killing her friend who’s gone missing in the wake of their love triangle with a local photographer. Paramount Music has released a score album for the Hulu limited series Looking for Alaska. The album features selections of the show’s original score composed by Emmy Award nominee Siddhartha Khosla (This Is Us, Runaways, The Royals). The soundtrack is now available to stream and download on Amazon Music, where you can also check out audio samples. As previously reported, Milan Records has released a separate soundtrack featuring the songs from the drama. Looking for Alaska is developed by Josh Schwartz based on the best-selling novel of the same title by John Green and stars Charlie Plummer, Kristine Froseth, Denny Love, Jay Lee, Landry Bender, Sofia Vassilieva, Uriah Shelton, Jordan Connor, Ron Cephas Jones and Timothy Simons. La-La Land Records has announced a new soundtrack album for Steven Spielberg’s 2002 sci-fi thriller Minority Report starring Tom Cruise, Colin Farrell and Samantha Morton. The album features the expanded and remastered score from the movie composed and conducted by John Williams (Star Wars, Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Schindler’s List), including previously unreleased music and alternate cues. The 2-CD set is limited to 3,500 copies and is available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also check out the full track list and listen to audio samples. Sparks & Shadows will release a soundtrack album for the supernatural horror thriller Eli. The album features the film’s original music composed by Emmy Award winner Bear McCreary (Godzilla: King of the Monsters, 10 Cloverfield Lane, The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, Happy Death Day, Outlander). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, October 18 and will be available to download here. Eli is directed by Ciaran Foy and stars Charlie Shotwell, Lili Taylor, Kelly Reilly, Sadie Sink and Max Martini. Deutsche Grammophon will release a full soundtrack album for James Gray’s sci-drama Ad Astra. The album features the film’s original score composed by Max Richter (The LeftoversMary Queen of ScotsHostilesMiss SloaneTabooWaltz with Bashir), as well as additional music by Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, The LEGO Batman Movie, Genius) and Nils Frahm. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, October 18 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon Music, where you can also listen to audio clips. A CD version is available for pre-order here. A track from Richter’s score has previously been released as a digital single when the movie opened in theaters last month. Ad Astra is co-written and directed by Gray and stars Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Liv Tyler and Donald Sutherland.

The details of the soundtrack album for Taika Waititi’s comedy drama Jojo Rabbit have been revealed. The album features the songs from the movie, including The Beatles’ Komm gib mir deine Hand, David Bowie’s Helden, Tom Waits’ I Don’t Wanna Grow Up, Roy Orbison’s Mama, LOVE’s Everybody’s Gotta Live, as well as classical pieces by Charles Gounod, Johann Strauss II & more. Also included are three tracks from the film’s original score composed by Michael Giacchino (a full score album is being released separately as reported earlier today). Anna Meredith has composed the original score for the new Netflix original series Living with Yourself. The show is created and written by Timothy Greenberg (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart), directed by Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris (Little Miss Sunshine, The Battle of the Sexes) and stars Paul Rudd and Aisling Bea. The comedy revolves around a man struggling in life who undergoes a novel spa treatment that promises to make him a better person, only to learn he’s been replaced by a better version of himself.
