‘Spotlight on John Williams’ Album Announced

The City Light Symphony Orchestra, founded in Lucerne in 2018, has announced its debut album with the 100-minute program Spotlight on John Williams. The 90-piece orchestra recorded a selection of classic film scores by Williams in the concert hall of the KKL Luzern in September 2020 – with a deliberate focus on his great stylistic diversity. The music is conducted by Kevin Griffiths and the featured soloists include Valentine Michaud, Reinhold Friedrich and Paul Meyer. Pirmin Zängerle is producing the record, which will be released digitally on April 9, 2021 by Prospero Classical (visit Amazon to pre-order) and as a 2-CD set overseas on the same day and internationally in May. Sergei Stern (AK-47, The Farm, Queen of Spades: Through the Looking Glass) has released a soundtrack album for the cyber thriller Dark Web: Cicada 3301. The album features the composer’s original score from the film and is now available to stream/download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. Dark Web: Cicada 3301 is co-written and directed by Alan Ritchson and stars Jack Kesy, Conor Leslie, Ritchson himself, Ron Funches and Andreas Apergis. The movie follows a hacker and his friends who discover a mysterious online treasure hunt and must elude aggressive NSA agents as they race to find the clues and claim the prize. Composer Nicholas Britell is set to reteam with director Adam McKay on the upcoming Netflix original film Don’t Look Up. The movie is written and directed by McKay (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, The Other Guys) and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett, Rob Morgan, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ariana Grande, Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Timothée Chalamet, Himesh Patel, Chris Evans, Mark Rylance, Scott Mescudi, Matthew Perry, Tomer Sisley, Tyler Perry, Melanie Lynskey, Ron Perlman and Michael Chiklis. Questlove to Serve as Oscars Musical Director

Oscars show producers Jesse Collins, Stacey Sher and Steven Soderbergh announced today that Questlove has joined the Oscars production team as the show’s musical director. He follows Bill Conti, Marc Shaiman, William Ross, Harold Wheeler, Rickey Minor, among others who have previously been selected as music directors. Questlove who best known as a drummer, DJ, producer, author and founding member of hip hop group The Roots is an Academy member himself and has performed on the Oscars previously. A soundtrack album has been released for the indie coming-of-age drama Beast Beast. The album features the film’s original score composed by director Danny Madden and additional music by Robert Allaire (Too Late, Some Kind of Hate). Jon Ekstrand (Life, Easy Money, Child 44, Borg vs. McEnroe, Queen of Hearts, I Am Greta) has recently been recording his score for the upcoming historical drama Margrete – Queen of the North (Margrete den første). The film is directed by Charlotte Sieling (The Man) and stars Trine Dyrholm in the title role of Margrete I of Denmark, who is considered the most powerful ruler in Scandinavian history and gathered Denmark, Norway and Sweden into a peaceful union. Jeff Cardoni (Silicon Valley, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, CSI: MiamiJust Friends) has been hired to score the upcoming Starz original series Heels. The show is created by by Michael Waldron (Loki)  and stars Stephen Amell, Alexander Ludwig, Alison Luff, Kelli Berglund, Chris Bauer, Allen Maldonado, Mary McCormack  and two-time Super Bowl champion James Harrison. Academy Award nominee Diane Warren has written an original song for the new drama Four Good Days. The track, entitled Somehow You Do, is performed by Reba McEntire and is featured in the film directed by Rodrigo García and starring Mila Kunis, Glenn Close and Stephen Root. Daniel Hart (Pete’s Dragon, A Ghost Story, The Old Man and the Gun, Strange Angel, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints) has composed the original score for the upcoming romantic drama The Last Letter from Your Lover. The film is directed by Augustine Frizzell (Never Goin’ Back) and stars Felicity Jones, Shailene Woodley, Callum Turner, Nabhaan Rizwan, Joe Alwyn and Ncuti Gatwa. The movie is based on the best-selling novel of the same title by Jojo Moyes and follows a young journalist in contemporary London who uncovers a series of love letters recounting a star-crossed affair in the 1960s.
