Composer Michael Andrews (Donnie Darko, Neighbors, Me and You and Everyone We Know, Bad Teacher) is reuniting with director Judd Apatow on the upcoming comedy The King of Staten Island. The film starring Pete Davidson, Marisa Tomei, Bill Burr, Bel Powley, Maude Apatow and Steve Buscemi centers on a burnout stuck living with his mom on Staten Island. Apatow (The 40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up) and Davidson also co-wrote the screenplay with Dave Sirus. The director is also producing the project with Barry Mendel (The Sixth Sense, Munich).

Robert A. A. Lowe to Score Nia DaCosta’s ‘Candyman’ Sequel
Director Nia DaCosta has revealed in a recent interview with Fandom that experimental musician Robert A. A. Lowe (aka Lichens) is composing the music for the upcoming Candyman sequel. The film starring Tahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and Colman Domingo is based on the Philip Glass-scored 1992 feature of the same title written by Bernard Rose and the short story The Forbidden by Clive Barker and returns to the now-gentrified Chicago neighborhood where the legend began. DaCosta (Little Woods) also co-wrote the screenplay with Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us) & Win Rosenfeld (Hunters, The Twilight Zone).
Bryce Dessner to Score Jon Stewart’s ‘Irresistible’
Bryce Dessner of the rock band The National has been tapped to score the upcoming comedy Irresistible. The film is written and directed by Jon Stewart and stars Steve Carell, Rose Byrne, Chris Cooper, Topher Grace, Natasha Lyonne, Mackenzie Davis, CJ Wilson and Will Sasso. The movie follows a Democrat political consultant who helps a retired ex-Marine colonel run for mayor in a small Wisconsin town. Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner & Jeremy Kleiner (12 Years a Slave, Moonlight, The Big Short) are producing the Plan B Entertainment production with Stewart and Lila Yacoub (Eighth Grade, Frances Ha).
Simon Boswell Scoring Edward Hall’s ‘Blithe Spirit’
Simon Boswell (Shallow Grave, Lord of Illusions, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The War Zone) is composing the original music for the upcoming British comedy Blithe Spirit. The film is directed by Edward Hall and stars Dan Stevens, Leslie Mann, Isla Fisher, Judi Dench, Emilia Fox, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Adil Ray, Michelle Dotrice and Aimee-Ffion Edwards. The movie is based on the classic play of the same title by Noël Coward and revolves around a crime author who invites an eccentric mystic to his home in hopes of curing a terrible case of writer’s block he encounters as he tries to finish his first script.
Steve Jablonsky to Score Rawson Marshall Thurber’s ‘Red Notice’
Composer Steve Jablonsky (Transformers, The Island, Deepwater Horizon, Ender’s Game) is set to reteam with director Rawson Marshall Thurber on the upcoming Netflix original film Red Notice. The movie is written and directed by Thurber (Central Intelligence, We’re the Millers, Dodgeball) and stars Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, Ryan Reynolds, Ritu Arya and Chris Diamantopoulos. The action comedy thriller revolves around an Interpol agent tasked with capturing the most wanted art thief in the world. Thurber and Johnson are also producing the project with Beau Flynn (San Andreas, Journey to the Center of the Earth), Dany Garcia & Hiram Garcia (Jumanji: The Next Level, Rampage).
Jeff Russo Scoring Sabrina Doyle’s ‘Lorelei’
Jeff Russo (Fargo, Star Trek: Discovery & Picard, The Night Of, Legion, The Umbrella Academy) has recently scored the upcoming indie drama Lorelei. The film is written and directed by Sabrina Doyle and stars Jena Malone and Pablo Schreiber. The movie follows a man who is released from prison after 15 years and reunites with his high school girlfriend, now a single mother of three. Kevin Chinoy & Francesca Silvestri (The Florida Project) are producing the project with Jennifer Radzikowski and Arnold Zimmerman.
Charlie Clouser to Return for Darren Lynn Bousman’s ‘Spiral’
Charlie Clouser is returning as the composer of the upcoming Saw movie Spiral. The film is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and stars Chris Rock, Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols and Samuel L. Jackson. The movie follows a detective and his rookie partner as they take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Josh Stolberg & Pete Goldfinger (Piranha 3D) wrote the screenplay. Mark Burg (Two and a Half Men, The Intruder) and Oren Koules (John Q, Set It Off) are producing the project.
Tamar-kali Scoring Dawn Porter’s ‘John Lewis: Good Trouble’
Tamar-kali (Mudbound, Come Sunday) has composed the original music for the upcoming documentary John Lewis: Good Trouble. The film is directed by Dawn Porter (Trapped, Gideon’s Army) and focuses on the life and career of Rep. John Lewis. The movie chronicles Lewis’ 60-plus years of social activism and legislative action on civil rights, voting rights, gun control, health-care reform and immigration. Porter is also producing the CNN Films, AGC Studios and TIME Studios production with Laura Michalchyshyn (Trailer Park Boys) for Trilogy Films, alongside Erika Alexander & Ben Arnon for Color Farm Media.
Antonio Sanchez to Score Shyam Madiraju’s ‘Harami: The Bastard’
Antonio Sanchez has signed on to score the upcoming drama Harami: The Bastard. The film is co-written directed by Shyam Madiraju (Eden) and stars Emraan Hashmi Emraan Hashmi and Subrat Dutta. The movie revolves around an orphan teenage pickpocket working the trains of Mumbai along with his gang whose life takes a turn when he meets the daughter of one of his victims who committed suicide after being robbed. Mohit Rastogi, Parvesh Kumar and Dori Zuckerman are producing the Gobsmack Entertainment production.The project marks the jazz drummer/composer’s second narrative feature scoring assignment following Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), for which he received a Golden Globe Awards nomination and a Grammy Award.
Mark Snow Scoring Josh Boone’s ‘The New Mutants’
Mark Snow (The X-Files, Millennium, Smallville) has composed the original score for the upcoming X-Men spinoff The New Mutants. The film is directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) and stars Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt and Henry Zaga. The horror thriller is set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive. Boone also co-wrote the screenplay with Knate Lee (Kidnap). Simon Kinberg (The Martian, Cinderella), Karen Rosenfelt (The Twilight Saga) and Lauren Shuler Donner (Logan, Deadpool) are producing the project.
