Opening in semi-wide in a couple of hundred theaters this weekend is the horror movie Abraham’s Boys: A Dracula Story written and directed by Natasha Kermani and starring Titus Welliver, Jocelin Donahue, Judah Mackey, Aurora Perrineau and Brady Hepner. Brittany Allen (What Keeps You AliveZTorn Hearts, American Horror Stories, Scrambled) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. Opening in Los Angeles and New York this weekend before expanding to more markets in the coming weeks is the South African drama Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight written and directed by Embeth Davidtz and starring Lexi Venter, Davidtz herself, Zikhona Bali, Rob Van Vuuren, Fumani Shilubana and Anina Reed. The film’s original music is composed by Chris Letcher (The Challenger Disaster, Motel Acacia). No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie, which examines the collapse of colonialism through the eyes of an eight-year-old girl as Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) approaches its pivotal 1980 election, premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival and is being distributed by Sony Pictures Classics.

Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the French coming-of-age drama Wild Diamond (Diamant Brut) written and directed by Agathe Riedinger and starring Malou Khebizi, Idir Azougli, Alexis Manenti, Andréa Bescond, Ashley Romano, Léa Gorla, , Kilia Fernane Alexandra Noisier and Antonia Buresi. Audrey Ismaël (The Path of Excellence, Consent, GerminalGloria, Chacun pour tous, The Kingdom) has composed the film’s original music. Because Music & Silex Films have released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last fall when the movie opened in France. Also opening in select U.S. theaters today before coming out on VOD on July 22 is the Spanish/Belgian sci-fi romantic drama Daniela Forever written and directed by Nacho Vigalondo and starring Henry Golding, Beatrice Grannò, Aura Garrido and Nathalie Poza. The film’s original score is composed by Catalonian electropop duo Hidrogenesse. Austrohúngaro has released a digital EP featuring three tracks from the duo’s music from the project this past February. Visit Amazon or any other major digital music services to listen to the soundtrack. The movie, which revolves around a man who enrolls in a clinical trial for a drug that allows him to reunite with his lost lover through lucid dreams, premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival and is being distributed by Well Go USA Entertainment.

Opening in select theaters today before premiering on Monday, July 14 on Netflix is the Brazilian documentary Apocalypse in the Tropics directed by Petra Costa. Rodrigo Leão (Lee Daniels’ The Butler, 100 Metros, The Gilded Cage, The Edge of Democracy) has composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a soundtrack release. The movie, which explores how Christian fundamentalism has seized political discourse in Brazil, one of the world’s most populous nation, premiered at last year’s Venice and Telluride Film Festivals and has been picked up by Netflix for worldwide distribution.

Opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the crime thriller Sovereign written and directed by Christian Swegal and starring Nick Offerman, Jacob Tremblay, Dennis Quaid, Thomas Mann, Martha Plimpton and Nancy Travis. The film’s original music is composed by James McAlister (Theater Camp). No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie, which follows a father and his teenage son who follow the Sovereign Citizen belief system, a deeply anti-establishment worldview rooted in distrust of government authority, premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival and is being released by Briarcliff Entertainment.

Also opening in select theaters and on VOD is the musical drama Singing in My Sleep written and directed by Nick Wilson and starring Jessica Belkin, Gavin Leatherwood and Malin Akerman. Louis Weeks has composed the film’s original score and Melanie Fontana & Lindgren wrote the movie’s original songs. A soundtrack album featuring both songs and score was released today.
