Varese Sarabande has announced the latest titles in its CD club series. Among the titles is a 25th anniversary deluxe soundtrack edition for the 1990 sci-fi adventure Back to the Future Part III directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Michael J. Fox & Christopher Lloyd. The 2-CD set features the film’s original music composed by Alan Silvestri (Forrest Gump, The Avengers, Cast Away, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Croods), including the complete score on one disc, and alternate cues and source tracks on the second disc. Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the horror thriller The Visit written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, produced by Jason Blum and starring Kathryn Hahn, Deanna Dunagan, Peter McRobbie, Ed Oxenbould and Olivia DeJonge. The movie doesn’t feature an original score except for short piano track for the movie’s epilogue scene written by Paul Cantelon (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, W.). Also opening wide is the thriller The Perfect Guy directed by David M. Rosenthal and starring Sanaa Lathan, Michael Ealy, Morris Chestnut, Charles S. Atli Orvarsson (Vantage Point, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Chicago Fire) and Dave Fleming have composed the film’s original music. ‘Southpaw’ Music from and Inspired by the Film Soundtrack Details
Shady Records and Interscope Records have announced the details of the soundtrack album for Antoine Fuqua’s boxing drama Southpaw. The album features the songs from and inspired by the film by artists including Eminem, 50 Cent, The Weeknd, The Notorious B.I.G., Slaughterhouse, Denaun, Bad Meets Evil & more. Also included are two tracks from the film’s original score composed by James Horner (Titanic, Avatar). A separate soundtrack album featuring Horner’s full score will be released on Sony Classical. The Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture soundtrack will be released on July 24, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Southpaw starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rachel McAdams, Forest Whitaker, Beau Knapp, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Naomie Harris, Oona Laurence, Rita Ora & Victor Ortiz will be released on July 24 by the Weinstein Company.
James Horner (1953-2015)
James Horner died this morning in a plane crash about 60 miles north of Santa Barbara, CA. The composer who was a recreational pilot was reportedly the only person on board. Horner was one of Hollywood’s most in demand film composers and has composed the music for the two highest-grossing films in history, Titanic and Avatar. He received two Academy Awards for his work on James Cameron’s Titanic and earned eight more Oscar nominations for such movies as Aliens, An American Tail, Field of Dreams, Braveheart, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, House of Sand and Fog and Avatar. He already completed scores for the upcoming dramas Southpaw and The 33 and recently also composed his first music for the concert hall in several decades.

La-La Land Records has released a remastered and expanded soundtrack for Paramount Pictures 1993 drama Searching for Bobby Fischer directed by Steven Zaillian and starring Joe Mantegna, Laurence Fishburne and Joan Allen. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by James Horner (Titanic, Braveheart, Avatar, A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13), including previously unreleased music and a number of alternate cues. James Horner to Compose Music for Disney’s ‘Pandora: The Land of Avatar’ Theme Park Attraction
James Horner revealed in an interview with HeyUGuys that he will be composing the music for Pandora: The Land of Avatar at Disney’a Animal Kingdom in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The theme park attraction is designed by Walt Disney Imagineering in partnership with James Cameron and Lightstorm Entertainment and will feature the wonders of Pandora, giving parkgoers the chance to “fly with banshees and explore a rich natural environment with mountains that float and interactive plants that glow at night.” Horner has composed the score for James Cameron’s 2009 movie and will return to score the sequel, which is scheduled to be released in 2017. James Horner’s ‘Pas de Deux’ Album Details
Mercury Classics will release film composer James Horner‘s first concert work in over 30 years, Pas de Deux. The Double Concerto for Violin, Cello and Orchestra written by the Academy Award-winning composer of such movies as Titanic, Avatar, Braveheart, Aliens, A Beautiful Mind and Apollo 13 and performed by musicians Mari & Hakon Samuelsen and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra premiered last fall in Liverpool. Also included on the album is Pärt’s Fratres for Violin, String Orchestra & Percussion, Sollima’s Violoncelles, Vibrez! and Einaudi’s Divenire. The album will be released overseas on May 25, 2015 and is now available for pre-order as an import on Amazon.
