Three new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this week:
Opening in most theaters is the monster movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters directed by Mike Dougherty and starring Vera Farmiga, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Kyle Chandler and Millie Bobby Brown. The film’s original music is composed by Bear McCreary (10 Cloverfield Lane, The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, Outlander). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening wide is the biographical musical drama Rocketman directed by Dexter Fletcher and starring Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, Gemma Jones and Bryce Dallas Howard. Matthew Margeson (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Eddie the Eagle) has composed the film’s original score. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the Elton John songs featured in the movie performed by Egerton, as well as an original song performed by John & Egerton. Quartet Records has announced a soundtrack album for the horror thriller Patrick. The album features the film’s original score composed by Pino Donaggio (Dressed to Kill, Carrie, Blow Out) and performed by the City of Prague Philarmonic Orchestra. The soundtrack is set to be released in January of 2014. Patrick is directed by Mark Hartley and stars Charles Dance, Sharni Vinson, Jackson Gallagher and Rachel Griffiths. The film is a re-imagining of the 1970’s Australian feature of the same title about a comatose hospital patient who harasses and kills through his powers of telekinesis to claim his private nurse as his own. The premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival this past summer and was just released in Australia. Phase 4 and Uncork’d Entertainment have recently picked up domestic distribution rights and are planning a release on VOD and in theaters in early 2014.
Already in theaters since Wednesday is the thriller Closed Circuit directed by John Crowley and starring Eric Bana, Rebecca Hall, Riz Ahmed, Jim Broadbent, Kenneth Cranham, Anne-Marie Duff, Ciarán Hinds and Julia Stiles. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally earlier this week. Check out 
Opening wide today is the concert documentary One Direction: This Is Us directed by Morgan Spurlock about the British/Irish boy band One Direction, consisting of Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. Simon Franglen who collaborated with James Horner on his scores for Avatar, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Karate Kid has composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been released, but the songs featured in the film are available on the band’s records. Quartet Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for the 1990 Paramount Pictures comedy Crazy People directed by Tony Bill and starring Dudley Moore and Daryl Hannah. The album features the film’s original score composed and conducted by Cliff Eidelman (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, He’s Just Not That Into You, Christopher Columbus: The Discovery). Intrada Records has announced a new soundtrack edition for Brian De Palma’s classic 1980 horror thriller Dressed to Kill starring Michael Caine, Angie Dickinson and Nancy Allen. The album features the remastered and expanded original score from the film composed by Pino Donaggio (Carrie, Don’t Look Now) and conducted by Natale Massara.
