Henry Jackman and Matt Margeson are composing the music for the upcoming action thriller Kingsman: The Secret Service. The film is directed by Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, Stardust) and stars Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Caine, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong and Jack Davenport. The movie based on based on the comic book by Mark Millar (Kick-Ass) and Dave Gibbons (Watchmen) tells the story of a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius. Vaughn and Jane Goldman (The Debt, The Woman in Black) have co-written the screenplay and the director is also producing the project with David Reid & Adam Bohling (Layer Cake).

Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the drama The Butler starring Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, John Cusack, Jane Fonda, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, James Marsden, David Oyelowo, Vanessa Redgrave, Alan Rickman, Liev Schreiber and Robin Williams. The film’s original music is composed by Rodrigo Leão (Lisbon Story). Verve International has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this year. Matthew Margeson Scoring ‘The Curse of Downers Grove’
Matthew Margeson is currently scoring the upcoming indie thriller The Curse of Downers Grove. The film is directed by Derick Martini (Lymelife, Hick) and stars Bella Heathcote, Lucas Till, Penelope Mitchell, Kevin Zegers, Helen Slater and Tom Arnold. The movie based on a novel by Michael Hornburg is set in Downers Grove, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago and follows a paranoid high school senior who is worried about an apparent curse that takes the life of one student every year at the school. Martini has co-written the screenplay with Bret Easton Ellis (American Psycho, The Rules of Attraction). Oren Segal, Jason Dubin and Chiara Trento are producing the project. Margeson has previously scored the Segal-produced 2010 film Burning Palms. The Curse of Downers Grove is currently in post-production and is expected to be released in 2014.
‘Kick-Ass 2’ Score Album Details
The details of the score album for the superhero action comedy sequel Kick-Ass 2 have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Henry Jackman (Wreck It Ralph, X-Men: First Class) and Matthew Margeson (Transformers Prime, Skyline). The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 13, 2013. A physical deluxe extended edition including additional tracks not included on the digital version will be released on August 20 by La-La Land Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. As previously reported, Sony Music will release a separate soundtrack featuring the film’s songs. The sequel will nationwide on August 16, 2013 by Universal Pictures.
Film Music Panels at Comic-Con 2013 Announced

The line-up for two film music-related panels at Comic-Con 2013 has been announced. On Thursday, July 18, a number of film directors and composers will participate in the panel The Anatomy of Superhero Film Music: Bringing a Comic Book to Life. Composer Marco Beltrami and director James Mangold (The Wolverine), composer Brian Tyler and director Shane Black (Iron Man 3), composer Matthew Margeson and director Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2), composer Christopher Lennertz (Marvel: Agent Carter) and music supervisor Dave Jordan (The Avengers) will discuss the challenges faced when bringing a comic book character to life and giving that character a voice, working with directors and how they collaborate to convey the story of the character.
Matthew Margeson Scoring ‘Kick-Ass 2’
According to the film’s new trailer, Matthew Margeson is scoring the upcoming superhero action comedy sequel Kick-Ass 2. The film is directed by Jeff Wadlow (Never Back Down, Cry Wolf) and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse who all return from the 2010 original film and are joined by Jim Carrey who portays Sal Bertolinni aka Colonel Stars and Stripes. Donald Faison, Clark Duke, John Leguizamo and Morris Chestnut are co-starring. Wadlow has also written the screenplay based on the characters from the comic book Hit-Girl by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr. Matthew Vaughn who directed the first part is producing the Marv Films and Plan B production with Brad Pitt, Adam Bohling (Layer Cake), Targquin Pack and David Reid. The project will marks Margeson’s second major studio release following 2010’s Skyline. He previously served as an additional music arranger on the first Kick-Ass installment (which featured music by Henry Jackman, John Murphy, Ilan Eshkeri and Marius De Vries) and has written additional music for numerous films scored by Jackman.

Three new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Tony Scott’s new thriller Unstoppable starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pine and Rosario Dawson features a score by Harry Gregson-Williams. The movie has received the best reviews for any movie by the director in over a decade. The score has been described as a hybrid electronic/orchestral score in the vein of Gregson-Williams’ other scores for the director (Man on Fire, The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3).
