Walt Disney Records will release the official soundtrack album for the movie musical Mary Poppins Returns. Marc Shaiman (A Few Good Men, Misery, The American President, Sister Act) & Scott Wittman (Hairspray) have composed the film’s original songs and Shaiman also wrote the original score. The soundtrack will be released on December 7, 2018 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Mary Poppins Returns is directed by Rob Marshall and stars Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh, Joel Dawson, Angela Lansbury and Dick Van Dyke.

Guaranteed to top the weekend box office is Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins. The film’s original music is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (The LEGO Movie, 21/22 Jump Street, The Royal Tenenbaums). Already playing in theaters since this past Wednesday is the comedy A Bad Moms Christmas written and directed by Jon Lucas & Scott Moore and starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Jay Hernandez, Cheryl Hines, Peter Gallagher, Justin Hartley, David Walton, Christine Baranski and Susan Sarandon. Christopher Lennertz (Horrible Bosses, Baywatch, Ride Along, Agent Carter) who previously scored the original film has composed the sequel’s score.
‘LBJ’ Soundtrack Announced
Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for the biographical drama LBJ. The album features the film’s original music composed by Marc Shaiman (A Few Good Men, Misery, Sister Act, Hairspray, The Bucket List, City Slickers). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, November 3 (click here to download) and physically a couple of weeks later. Visit Amazon to pre-order the CD. LBJ is directed by Rob Reiner and stars Woody Harrelson, Michael Stahl-David, Richard Jenkins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jeffrey Donovan and Bill Pullman. The movie follows President Lyndon B. Marc Shaiman & Scott Wittman to Compose Score for ‘Everything Is Coming Up Profits’ Musical Adaptation
Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are attached to compose the score for an original feature musical based on the book Everything Is Coming Up Profits: The Golden Age Of Industrial Musicals. Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig are attached to develop the project, which has sold to Amblin Partners. Steve Levenson (Masters of Sex, Dear Evan Hansen stage musical) is writing the screenplay and Marc Platt (La La Land, Bridge of Spies, Into the Woods, Legally Blonde) will produce the film with Adam Siegel (Drive, 2 Guns).
‘Hairspray LIVE!’ Soundtrack Details
Sony Masterworks will release a soundtrack album for the NBC television event Hairspray LIVE!. The album features the songs from the musical written by Marc Shaiman (A Few Good Men, Misery, Sister Act, City Slickers) and Scott Wittman (Smash, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) performed by the show’s cast. The soundtrack will be released digitally on December 2, 2016 and physically on December 9 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Hairspray LIVE! is based on the Tony and Grammy Award-winning Broadway musical and stars Maddie Baillio, Dove Cameron, Kristin Chenoweth, Garrett Clayton, Harvey Fierstein, Ariana Grande, Derek Hough, Jennifer Hudson, Martin Short, Ephraim Sykes and Shahadi Wright Joseph, with special appearances by Billy Eichner, Sean Hayes, Andrea Martin and Rosie O’Donnell.

Marc Shaiman & Scott Wittman to Write Songs and Score for ‘Mary Poppins’ Sequel
Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are set to compose original songs for a new Mary Poppins feature, which is currently in development at Disney. They will also be writing a new score. Rob Marshall (Chicago, Into the Woods, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) is attached to direct the movie, which is set 20 years after actions of the 1964 classic movie and will be based in parts on P.L. Travers’ book series. David Magee (Life of Pi, Finding Neverland) is writing the screenplay and John DeLuca (Into the Woods, Nine) and Marc Platt (Drive, Wanted, Legally Blonde) are producing the Walt Disney Pictures production.

Opening in most theaters is the action adventure Hercules directed by Brett Ratner and starring Dwayne Johnson, Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan and John Hurt. The film’s original music is composed by Fernando Velazquez (The Impossible, The Orphanage, Devil). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music digitally earlier this week. A CD release is set for next month. Also opening wide is the sci-fi thriller Lucy directed by Luc Besson and starring Scarlett Johansson, Morgan Freeman and Analeigh Tipton. Besson’s regular musical collaborator Eric Serra (The Professional, The Fifth Element) has composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. A different soundtrack, which also features the original song Sister Rust performed by Blur frontman Damon Albarn and tracks by The Crystal Method and Raury will be released overseas next month. Expanded ‘Empire of the Sun’ Soundtrack by John Williams Released
La-La Land Records has released a remastered and expanded soundtrack release for Steven Spielberg’s 1987 drama Empire of the Sun starring Christian Bale, John Malkovich and Miranda Richardson. The 2-CD set features the film’s original music composed and conducted by John Williams. The deluxe re-issue was produced, assembled and mastered by Mike Matessino in cooperation with John Williams, Steven Spielberg and producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall. The album features the complete film score, including previously unreleased music on one disc and a selection of alternate cues and other additional music on the second disc. Marc Shaiman Scoring Rob Reiner’s ‘And So It Goes’
Marc Shaiman has recently recorded his score for the upcoming comedy drama And So It Goes. The film is directed by Rob Reiner and stars Michael Douglas, Diane Keaton, Sterling Jerins, Frankie Valli, Scott Shepherd and Frances Sternhagen. The movie follows a self-centered real estate agent whose life is turned upside down when his estranged son suddenly drops off a granddaughter he never knew. Academy Award nominee Mark Andrus (As Good As It Gets, Life as a House) has written the screenplay. Reiner is also producing the Foresight Unlimited and Castle Rock production with Alan Greisman (Fletch, Soapdish) and Mark Damon (Monster, Nine 1/2 Weeks). Shaiman has been Reiner’s regular composer for over two decades.
